Detailed description is Smith Mill Smith Mill is constructed with components I removed from a Newport Pa. mill and from several other mills from a number of different states over the last 25 years.. The Newport mill was built just after the civil war and operated until about 1946.I purchased the contents of the derelict building in 1986. The water wheel was in such bad condition that I rebuilt it 38 inches wide instead of 60 inches,it is 18 feet in diameter. The original brick and stone building no longer exists. Smith mill is in existence only to show people in my area what a mill of that period might have looked like. I believe the wheel is the largest in the state of Illinois .. We have added A couple of rooms onto the Mill that house the "SMITHSONLYONE" a mini museum of tools and farm equipment. A new Building on site is the Smith Mill Forge. It is an operable Blacksmith shop. Future plans call for 2 separate buildings a millers house and a display of Sparton products and history..
