Detailed description is In 2014, South Winneshiek FFA received a $10,000 grant to build a Greenhouse. South Winn FFA also has Hydroponic Lettuce & Mic-greens available for sale. 2012 - South Winn Ag Dept Purchases a used lettuce hydroponic system, grow lights and pots with a Perkins Grant. . . At the time a 3x3 ft indoor greenhouse was used but not effective in growing seeds after they sprouted. . . 2013 - South Winn FFA received a $10,000 grant by called "Helping Communities Grow" through Seeds of Change. We were one of 15 schools in the United States to receive this grant. With this grant we built a 14x24 ft Greenhouse. We have electrical hookup and have been given an LP tank Rent Free by Fausers - We have even had a anonymous community member donate a few tanks of LP. Since it is expensive to bore under the road we currently fill three 55 gallon barrel drums with water by running a hose across the street. We hope to work towards an additional grant for water hookup and eventually cement the greenhouse floor which is currently rock making it difficult to clean up spilled soil. . . 2015- South Winn FFA received a $2,000 Working Here Grant which was used to build a micro-green/fodder system. This system will grow sprouts for human consumption but can also be converted to fodder or sprouts for livestock. Once the system is built and production begins micro-green sprouts will be available for human use year round to community members. . . . The South Winn Ag Dept. and FFA would not be successful with out your outstanding community support!!!
