As a full-service acute care hospital, St. John's treats more than 41,000 patients in the emergency department every year, delivers more than 3,000 babies and performs more than 6,000 surgeries a year.HistoryIn 1910 a private home owned by Gustav Willius in Saint Paul, Minnesota, was converted into a 25-bed hospital and became the first St. John's Hospital. The first two floors were for patients and the third floor provided living quarters for the nurses.St. John's German Hospital was dedicated in September 1911, and on October 1, 1911 the first patient with typhoid fever arrived at St. John's Hospital. In 1918 St. John's Hospital was turned over to the city of St. Paul during the flu eidemic to care for charity patients.In 1985, St. John's Northeast Hospital was built at its current Maplewood, Minnesota location.
