Detailed description is . Our Mission. Sullivan Alliance for Sustainable Development is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Sullivan County, NY. Our mission is to foster economic development that is environmentally, economically and socially responsible and sustainable.. Our Strategies. SASD accomplishes its mission through projects that build upon the synergy of green building technologies, energy conservation, sustainable agriculture, energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, and sustainable economic development.. Our Work. SASD has secured more than $1.6 million in grants on behalf of Sullivan County businesses, farms, community organizations, municipalities, and government agencies. Since 2004, SASD’s efforts have resulted in more than $4.5 million worth of wind, solar electric, solar-thermal and geo-thermal installations, energy audits, feasibility studies and energy efficiency retrofits. In addition to generating economic activity at the local level, these projects help reduce overall CO2 emissions and achieve substantial energy savings for Sullivan County residents, farmers, businesses, and towns.. SASD’s informational outreach includes forums, workshops, presentations to town boards and citizen groups, publications, and feasibility studies. In 2013 and 2014, SASD is partnering with NACL Theatre in Highland Lake and the Town of Highland on The Weather Project, a two-year, multidisciplinary community-based exploration of the weather in all its aspects, from folklore to cutting edge climate science.. Since 2009, SASD has worked under contract as consultants to the Sullivan County Legislature to provide expert advice and project support for energy management in all County-owned buildings and facilities. These activities have resulted in renewable energy installations at the County’s Mobility Management Building and County Health and Community Services Complex in Liberty, extensive outreach to promote free home energy audits and energy efficiency retrofits for SC housing stock, and the County’s active participation in New York State’s Climate Smart Communities Program. In 2013, this work continues as SASD works to identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy technology at County-owned facilities, and facilitates the creation of a comprehensive Climate Action Plan for Sullivan County..
