Detailed description is Our Center for School-age Development programs involve youth in decision making and activity choices while providing care before and after school. The before- and after-school programs are primarily recreational, with opportunities for working on homework. We recognize that families have busy schedules, so we work with each family to encourage a balance of activities, particularly after school, when most children need some physical, “unwind” time. Just as preschoolers learn by doing and playing, elementary age children learn, grow, and mature through social and recreational opportunities that teach without appearing to be academic.. . Our trained staff provide a wide variety of play and learning choices every day that challenge children cognitively, physically, and socially. SUMCD is flexible with CSD enrollments, so parents can enroll for the regular days each week that meet their needs. In several CSD sites we also provide “school’s out” child care when the public schools are closed for holidays, school breaks, or snow days.
