Detailed description is Our Center for School-age Development programs involve youth in decision making and activity choices while providing care after school. Our after-school programs are primarily recreational, with opportunities for working on homework. We recognize that families have busy schedules, so we work with each family to encourage a balance of activities, particularly after school, when most children need some physical, “unwind” time. Just as preschoolers learn by doing and playing, elementary age children learn, grow, and mature through social and recreational opportunities that teach without appearing to be academic.. . Our trained staff provide a wide variety of play and learning choices every day that challenge children cognitively, physically, and socially. For parents, the benefits are twofold: Your children are safe in a supervised setting, and they are happily engaged in appropriate activities that challenge their minds and bodies.. . SUMCD is flexible with CSD enrollments, so parents can enroll for the regular days each week that meet their needs. In several CSD sites we also provide “school’s out” child care when the public schools are closed for holidays, school breaks, or snow days. Additionally, the before- and after- school programs extend daily hours when schools dismiss early for bad weather.. . Our centers are recognized for program quality by the state of Pennsylvania through the STARS evaluation system.
