Detailed description is Working with residents of the economically disadvantaged and underdeveloped colonias inside the U.S, along the Texas-Mexico border, for over 20 years. The current inadequate physical infrastructure in many "Colonias" in rural and urban communities along the Texas/Mexico Rio Grande border, severely affects the quality of life of their residents. Inadequate housing, lack of transportation, water, energy, paved roads, storm drainage, sewage and communications systems are a daily challenge to Colonias residents. Promotoras/es, Community Health Workers/Patient Navigators are the Colonias greatest asset. Emerging to leadership positions within their own communities, Promotoras/es connect residents to programs and services in a wide array of areas such as family strengthening, whole family health, youth and adult education, nutrition, chronic disease management, mental health and other resources. . With over 20 years of integrated partnerships, the Colonias Program continues to expand its network of promotoras/es working in over 40 Community Resource Centers in the Colonias and now in emerging communities in Central Texas Corridor including San Antonio and Austin..
