Detailed description is An educational trust supporting young people in the Aberdeenshire areas of Lumphanan, Torphins and Kincardine o' Neil. Through the generosity of Alexander W Davie the Charitable Trust was established in 1992, following his death, to provide financial assistance for educational purposes to children and young people under the age of 25 who meet one of the following criteria. . . Category 1: The person in respect of whom an application is made (“the applicant”) must have been born in the Parish of Lumphanan or his/her parents were resident in Lumphanan at the time of birth. . Category 2: The applicant has lived in the Parish of Lumphanan for five years prior to the date of the application, and continues to live there. . Category 3: The applicant was born in either the Parish of Torphins or the Parish of Kincardine O' Neil, or the applicant's parents were resident within either of these Parishes at the time of the applicant's birth and the applicant has lived within either of those Parishes for five years prior to making the application, and continues to live there. . . Applications are means-tested and School, College and University awards of up to £7,200 annually are paid by 3 instalments, at the beginning of each term. Applications must be submitted on an annual basis. Please note that no retrospective payments will be considered by the Trustees. The Trustees meet annually in September to consider applications received on behalf of young people embarking on the next stage of their education at School, College or University. Although the Trust awards are primarily for core education costs, the Trustees do also consider one off applications from the parents of children who meet the criteria for expenses such as educational school trips and private tuition. Such applications are considered by the Trustees as and when they arise throughout the year. . . In recent years the Trustees have worked with Robert Gordon’s College to establish an Alexander Davie scholarship in which the Trust may assist in funding a student who meets particular criteria through their years at Robert Gordon’s College.
