The Mission of The Arc Baltimore is to provide advocacy and high quality, life-changing supports to individuals with I/DD and their families. What began as a meeting of eight parents in 1949 with a goal to provide a voice for their children has grown into a 501(c)(3) organization of 800+ employees. Over 6,000 adults and children with I/DD and their families rely on The Arc for their advocacy and support in the greater Baltimore area. . . The Arc is widely recognized for improving the quality of life of adults and children with I/DD. The Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations awarded its Standards For Excellence certification to The Arc. We also are certified by CARF International, a nationally recognized accreditor of health and human service organizations that meet the highest standards.. . The Arc offers a myriad of services and supports through the following four divisions: . • The Community Living division supports adults in their own residence through a continuum of community-based services that maximizes growth and independence. The individuals are contributing and engaged members of their neighborhood. 312 adults are served in 182 homes or apartments of their choosing.. . • Employment Services division provides on-site job coaching, training and ongoing support to more than 500 supported workers with jobs at Baltimore companies. These employees are both independently placed as well as in supervised crews working in areas such as janitorial and landscape, hotel housekeeping, and other assembling or packing projects. In addition, our five Day/Employment Centers provide nearly 500 people an opportunity for growth through a combination of work, volunteer and leisure opportunities within their respective communities.. . • The Family and Children’s Services division supports over 5000 children and their families through treatment foster care, respite care, in-home family supports and training, parent training programs, seminars & support groups, recreational and summer camp opportunities, special education advocacy and an information and referral hotline.. . • The Quality Supports division undergirds all of our programs through three departments: Psychological Services, Nursing and Training. 11 Arc nurses monitor the health and well-being of all individuals receiving supports through Community Living and at our day/employment centers. Four Psychological Associates provide positive behavioral therapy and support to those Arc participants in need. The Training department educates all incoming Arc staff through an established curriculum with topics such as I/DD, First Aid/CPR, Behavioral Principles & Strategies, and Medication Administration. In addition, our director of quality supports oversees a Quality Enhancement Plan that looks at how well we provide services in many areas (Outcomes, Incidents, Behavior Support Plans and Relationships). The quarterly reviews and the final plan are viewed and approved by the Quality Enhancement Committee which consists of board members, employees and other volunteers..
