Detailed description is This program is a model for ministry that integrates the work of a pastor within the practice of spiritual guidance... http://psgprogram.org This program is a model for ministry that integrates the work of a pastor within the practice of spiritual guidance...It affects everything a pastor does.. . “Pastoral work is soul work, whether practiced with individuals or with groups, and every aspect of pastoral activity should serve the overall aim of the spiritual growth of the congregation.” These words by Howard Rice (The Pastor as Spiritual Guide) set the tone for this program.. . The Pastor as Spiritual Guide Program is an ecumenical continuing education program for experienced pastors. Supported by a diverse community of peers, pastors study and practice spiritual disciplines for their own spiritual enrichment with a view to deepening the faith lives of their people. This nine-month program is designed to help pastors move from “running a church” to embracing their role as spiritual guides and to renewing their unique calling and joy in ministry.. . History. This program, designed by Rev. Larry Williams, began in 2002 under the umbrella of The Center for Congregational Health. Larry co-led the groups until his recent retirement. Sister Joanna Walsh, f.cJ., the other co-leader, recently accepted a call by her order to London, England. A change in leadership at The Center for Congregational Health brought a change in relationship with PSGP. Many of the more than fifty pastors who have participated in the program felt strongly that it should continue. They established a memorandum of understanding with CBFNC for the management of funds and promotion. After a period of prayerful discernment, two new leaders were identified.. . Leaders.
