The goal of the Center is to greet, with Christian hospitality, the crews of ocean-going and freshwater ships when they come to the port.. . Vessel Services Offered:. Ship visits upon docking at a terminal. Phone and Wifi routers for crew use while in port. Phone cards. Visits with officers and crew. Free transport in our 12 passenger van (Destinations include shopping centers, downtown businesses, the Seafarers Center, health clinics, worship centers, etc.). Gifts at Christmas. Assistants with special requests. Seafarers Center Services Offered:. . Soft drinks, snacks and souvenirs. Wireless internet and telephones. Free donated clothing, books and magazines. Conversation, prayer requests. Quiet chapel area for payer or meditation. Pool table, ping pong, darts, cable TV. All seafarers and transport workers are welcome at the Center.. . Because of the make-up of the ships’ crews and nature of the shipping business, most seafarers served at the Center are from foreign flagged ships.. . Fellowship and Support. The Center offers fellowship, hospitality and a place to relax away from the “on board” life. Chaplains, center hosts and translators are also available on request.. . Clothing and personal items are available at the center at no cost, and sometimes carried to the ships for those who cannot leave the ship.. . Because many seafarers will be on the sea away from home at Christmas time, Christmas gift boxes are provided to seafarers during the winter season.. . Philosophy. We proclaim the love of God as revealed in Jesus Christ by demonstrating that love to others in Christian hospitality.Under the direction of the Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers, Inc, The Seafarers Center strives to provide an agency through which Christian groups and individuals may cooperate in a ministry for the spiritual, social and personal needs of seafarers who are in the twin ports of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin USA.. . The Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers was incorporated in 1969 as an ecumenical ministry to the thousands of men, women and children who visit our ports by ship. In 1975 the physical facilities of the center changed from a 60-foot trailer located at Garfield Avenue to our present facility on West Third Street.. . Support for the ministry is through 13 denominations throughout a seven-state area and through numerous private donations, without which the quality of services and care given by the center would be severely reduced.. .
