The Spot Underground Artistic Collaborative started in 2007 on Thayer Street on Providence’s East Side as a yoga studio and art gallery with a team of instructors that gave lessons in music art and dance.. . It has taken many forms and had many different leaders and members over time.. . What is a collaborative, you ask? Good question. It seems to be a group of like-minded artistic individuals who work together to achieve a greater good via the arts.. . In 2010, the founding team opened a Cheers-esque bar & restaurant with live music in the Jewelry District under the name The Spot Underground.. . That business eventually closed (but the name stuck to the Collaborative), and, in 2012, a new, 2-stage, 400-capacity music venue, The Spot On Top, was opened around the corner in the Night Club District.. . In late 2014, The Spot Underground Collaborative decided to branch out- and began promoting shows at other venues, including some at the hip new and beautiful Fete Music Hall.. . In May of 2015, the Spot Collaborative closed their physical location and began promoting shows as “The Spot Next Door/on Tour” – located at The Colosseum Nightclub– truly underground– and much larger. The Colosseum boasts a 900+capacity first-floor-and-patio, with a 1000-capacity nightclub upstairs. The downstairs has live music performances on 2 stages inside and 1 stage outside.. . In early 2016, The Spot Underground Collaborative brought music back to Thayer Street-- in association with The Torch Alliance-- with a stint of shows at Paragon/Viva .. . The summer 2016 lineup includes shows not only at venues in Providence, but also at venues by the beach in Rhode Island-:Ocean Mist, (Matunuck,) The Wheelhouse &(Galilee) Oceanside at the Pier (Narragansett), as well as at various venues in Massachusetts! . . The Spot Underground Collaborative continues to evolve: members retire, return, retire again... return again… it is like a band-- with the assortment of talented cats that have been a part (including hundreds of artists and musicians that play their music and hang their art wherever we go)-- someone is always getting the band back together somewhere.. . For the last 6 years, we have had daily programming at 1 location in Providence in addition to shows at other locations. This summer, we have decided to highlight our top choice or choices throughout RI and southern Mass-- but won’t have daily programming-- so we suggest paying particular attention to the location we highlight! (Make SURE you go to the correct venue!). . We look forward to the future and the fall-- you can bet that there will be more verses and choruses written.. .
