Detailed description is We strive to produce healthy, happy and well socialized Lakeland Terriers. Since we met our first Lakeland Terrier in 1990 we've loved the breed. I encountered my first Lakeland Terrier in 1990 as a favor to a friend. At that time I lived in Key West and a friend asked me to look after her two dogs while she went to visit a friend in England. The two dogs were a Lakeland Terrier and a Wire Fox Terrier. A few weeks later I found out the lady had married the fellow she went to visit in England and the dogs were mine to keep. When the Wire Fox died many years later I was sad but when the Lakeland Terrier died I was devastated. Shortly thereafter, in about 1999 or 2000 I purchased a Lakeland Terrier female. She is still with us and is now 15 years old.. About ten years ago we sold our first pup from her. She and her companion, a wheaten colored male Lakeland Terrier, had two pups and I sold one of them to a Veterinarian who later told me what a great pup it was. She asked me if I ever considered breeding Lakeland Terriers and I told her truthfully that I had never considered such a thing. However, after I retired I became more interested in such an option.. Starting with a few dogs we began selecting outstanding potential parents and bringing them to our home outside Asheville, North Carolina. Our focus at all times has been on the health and personality of the dogs. Conformation is important but not at the expense of the health of the dogs. Our original dog has reached 15 years of age with very little veterinary expense. We feel that this makes a dog far more valuable in the long run than an inexpensive pup with serious medical issues.. It has become customary in the US to sell pups at eight or nine weeks of age. We don't feel that selling a pup at that young age is the best decision for the pup. At eight weeks of age the pup is quite vulnerable to diseases. The immunity passed on from his mother is in serious decline and the immunity provided with his shots is in the process of developing. We prefer to keep a pup until he is at least ten weeks of age and preferably even older. We sell probably half of our pups at ages between ten weeks and one year of age. Color stability is one of many factors that are better determined as the pup approaches maturity.. Our pups are delighting families in many of the US states and Canadian provinces. We have also shipped pups to Mexico and many of the countries in South America. One great little female is now making her home with her new family in Dubai in the UAE.
