ASHA’s grants help these institutions train future leaders in a wide variety of disciplines, support local and regional infrastructure to foster development, and cultivate positive relationships and mutual understanding among citizens of the United States and other nations.. . Since its inception in 1947, ASHA has assisted more than 272 institutions in 79 countries. ASHA currently manages a worldwide portfolio of over 100 awards, making 30-40 new awards each year. These awards support construction, renovation, and the procurement of scientific, medical, and educational equipment. As the use of ASHA funds is strictly limited, benefiting overseas institutions complement ASHA investments with support from additional sources. This allows ASHA to engage in sustainable partnerships that build capacity and catalyze innovation.. .
