Detailed description is Year-round campground for veterans, families and sponsored guests with tent & RV sites, cabins and fully heated duplex cabins. Canteen open every weekend. In 1926, the Disabled Veterans Rest Camp (DVRC) started from a local farm that was donated to help disabled veterans recover from WWI. The original farmhouse was converted to a dormitory-type house for these shell-shocked veterans. During WWII, shell-shock was called battle fatigue; today it is known as post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Through the years, the camp's main focus of providing rest and recreation for military and veterans has not changed, only the name of the disabled veterans' affliction.. . Today, Veterans Campground is open to all military, veterans, their families and sponsored guests. The camp has a wide variety of recreations for the entire family.. . Activities include: camping (cabins, tents and 127 RV sites), basketball, boating, fishing, horse shoes, sand volleyball, softball, walking paths and water activities (skiing, swimming, tubing, etc). . . We also have a bar/canteen, arcade and a spacious Yellow Ribbon Pavilion for parties, gatherings and picnics. We often host public events on holidays.
