Detailed description is We're one of five arts areas at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, a public residential high school for emerging artists in SC. Emerging visual artists attend this intensive two-year program to build on and develop artistic, conceptual, and creative skills and attain the discipline and confidence necessary to investigate their own imagery and self-expression. . . Students learn to relate and recognize art from diverse cultures and periods and have exposure to studio practices in ceramics, graphic design, life drawing, metals, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Specialized courses such as architecture and bronze casting are also available in the second year and all studies culminate in a senior concentration. Critical thinking and aesthetic valuing are strengthened with group and individual critiques, problem solving assignments, and jury reviews at the end of each semester.. . All classes are taught by artist-educators active in their chosen fields; students work side-by-side with established artists and academics on Advanced Placement portfolios, AP/Honors Art History, Career/Portfolio Preparation, and intensive studio classes in preparation for higher education and ultimately careers in the arts. The program is further supported by dedicated on-campus studio spaces, artist and student artist exhibitions in the Lipscomb Gallery, and the vibrant arts settings of downtown Greenville and upstate South Carolina. Students from this program are heavily recruited by top art schools from throughout the country as well as excellent college programs within the state.. .
