Nicole Johnson’s, certified hypnotherapist, with a continuing education to earn her Associates Degree as a Holistic Wellness Practitioner from Southwest Institute of Healing Arts passion for holistic health blossomed a couple years after tragedy struck.. . At the age of 14, Nicole’s world was turned upside down as she sustained a C5/C6 spinal cord injury. Nicole, as the passenger, was traveling on a motorcycle with her dad when they hit loose gravel and crashed leaving Nicole as a quadriplegic.. . Nicole was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin by ambulance, and then was airlifted to the UW Children’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin where she spent the first 41 days after her accident. After spending 41 days in the PICU resting and allowing her body to begin to heal at the Children’s Hospital, Nicole was then transported to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she was weaned off of her ventilator and started rehab. After spending 40 days at Froedtert, which seemed like forever at the time, Nicole was able to go home.. . Shortly, after Nicole arrived home, she began physical and occupational therapy at St. Joseph’s, which was unsatisfying. During Nicole’s physical and occupational therapy appointments she was being taught to live as a quadriplegic. That’s not what she wanted. She wanted to gain strength back, gain movement back … she wanted to recover, which led Nicole and her family to seek alternative therapies, which includes, just to name a few, exercise based therapy at a facility in California called Project Walk, healing touch, acupuncture, and massage.. . Since seeking alternative therapies and finding what works for Nicole, she has gained movement and function back, which as a C5/C6 injury, she should not have gained back according to what her doctors told her.. .
