Detailed description is The YWCA of Butler is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
In 1987, The YWCA addressed a great need for cost containment in medical/residential care for the low/moderate income frail elderly.
A need assessment showed that many elderly people were living alone when they should have 24-hour assisted care, but could not afford it.
The needs assessment confirmed that few elderly in the greater butler area have sufficient funds for expensive nursing home care..

The YWCA met this challenge by renovating the second floor of its facility into a 14-bed personal care residence.
In addition to offering care at a fraction of the cost of a nursing home, the project created new jobs for a depressed economy..

Community demand for this type of cost containment in elderly care led the YWCA to spearhead a 1.4 Million Capital funds drive in 1990 to renovate the facility and expand the personal care program.
the under-utilized gymnasium was divided horizontally making a two story complex and thus added an additional 10 patient rooms.
This was phase two of a long-range plan..

Again, these rooms were filled immediately and waiting lists developed.
Because the fund drive was so successful, The Board of Directors continued with the completion of the long-range plan and constructed six independent living/ assisted care apartments on the first floor of the facility.
These were filled early in 1993 and three phases of construction were completed with 30 frail elderly receiving care at the YWCA of Butler and 20 jobs were created..

In April 1994, an architectural engineering study showed that five additional patient rooms could be constructed on the flat roof adjacent to the personal care residence.

two of these rooms were completed in June 1994 and occupied immediately.
The YWCA completed this project in 1995 with the construction of the final Patients rooms.
the total cost of the construction was $140,000.

To this day we are currently adding rooms for elderly residents, and are trying to get as much funding as possible and donations to help our frail elderly..
