JOINT BASE McGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST — U.S. Air Force members stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst are embarking on a journey to the U.S. military's newest frontier — outer space.
Fifteen airmen have volunteered to serve in the newly formed U.S. Space Force, and over the next several months will transition into their new roles in the newest branch of the U.S. military.
The U.S. Space Force was formed in December 2019, and will take shape over the next year and a half.
According to its website, the military branch was formed to "protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force."
