(Photo courtesy of DHSUD-CDMRD) MANILA - Some 273 informal settler families (ISFs) will benefit from the "first-ever" socialized permaculture housing community in Baguio City, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) said Monday. DHSUD Secretary Eduardo del Rosario said the housing project will be jointly undertaken by the national government and local government of Baguio City. Del Rosario said the resettlement project will be completed along with the livelihood programs for the identified beneficiaries. The project, he added, is part of the DHSUD's primary goal of providing decent, resilient, and sustainable housing communities to many Filipinos under its 20-year National Housing and Urban Development Sector Plan. "This is exactly our vision in the housing roadmap wherein we create decent living spaces in resilient and sustainable communities," Del Rosario said. Del Rosario and Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Luna Terraces Permaculture Community land development project in the city's Barangay Irisan on Sunday. Magalong cited the unwavering support of the DHSUD to push through with the project. The project development on 1.8-hectare land will be undertaken by the National Housing Authority (NHA) through the developers' incentivized compliance to the balanced housing program. It is designed as a condominium-type housing facility with 10 buildings. Del Rosario said the project is in line with DHSUD's mandate to capacitate Filipino families, especially those low-income earners, to have equal access to decent, safe, and more affordable housing units.
