36,000 fines issued on Auckland highway in six months after speed limit cut

Thirty-four drivers were caught by cameras going more than 50kmh over the speed limit.

The majority of speedsters caught by police officers were travelling between 16kmh and 20kmh over the limit, while those caught most often via a speed camera were going between 11kmh and 15kmh too fast.
July, the month after the speed reduction came into effect, saw the most fines handed out – a total of 8490.
