AKOMA: 25 Years of Gospel Sisterhood airs Friday, February 26 at 8:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV. The half-hour program details the history of the choir through interviews and performance footage.
AKOMA, which means patience, endurance, consistency, and faithfulness, is a vocal and spoken word ministry rooted in the African American sacred song and oral tradition. The choir is dedicated to serving the community, mentoring young women, and presenting annual scholarships to female high school graduates of African descent.
