But barbara it sets up a situation of dueling autopsies what we have this autopsy from the family we dont have an entire autopsy from the Hennepin County coroner but what we do have is some wording in the prosecutors charges that said george floyd did not die of his fixation that he died of a combination of things yes the Police Officers pressing on him were part of that but it also said he had hypertension and coronary Artery Disease so this really directly contradicts that this independent autopsy says that it is clear that it was asphyxiation those doctors the 2 doctors who performed that said george floyd had no Underlying Health conditions and they said that it was clear from the video that the officers being on his back and on his meth neck and directly caused his death and they know that in the ambulance george floyd did not have a pulse so we didnt die later in the ambulance he died on the scene he was declared dead at the hospital because that is how that happens you you wait for a doctor to do that in on an e. M. T. But the point is he was dead on this scene this is going to be played out in court these 2 competing on top so yes but certainly the family is going to press this one and they say if this makes it clear this was a homicide and that a 2nd autopsy the independent one also says that the officers who were on George Floyds back contributed to his death it wasnt just derek shoes on with his knee on his neck that. Autopsy says all of them contributed to the fatality. And john a few hours before that announcement was made about the autopsy result we heard from George Floyds brother terence he spoke all in the small boy george was killed asking people to stop the violence to keep on protesting but to stop the violence to get a sense that protesters are going to take his advice. There are 2 Different Groups if there are many Different Groups of protesters but the ones here who come to the george floyd memorial and you can see that mural behind me these are Peaceful Protesters and there are thousands of them and i would say most of the protesters are very peaceful theyve come here to make a point they are angry about what happened to george floyd and they want all 4 of those officers arrested and charged with murder but the group that comes out at night those are often a Different Group of people more hardcore. In some of them we have seen lighting fires looting buildings whether they were demonstrators or not and they have come out every night to defy the police and it has only been the last 2 nights with this extra 1000 National Guard troops that have been called in for a total of 1700. 00 National Guard troops freeing up the police whove been very aggressive with rubber bullets and tear gas its only been in the past couple of days that police have really shut down those protesters because for the previous 4 nights they only the night police could not even get fire trucks in to put out the fires in burning buildings john hendren with the latest from minneapolis john thank you. Well weve seen widespread demonstrations for the last 5 days throughout the city largely peaceful but at the end of the day sometimes turning violent last night there was looting in Lower Manhattan 2 nights ago some mala top cocktails were thrown at Police Vehicles and with all of that as a backdrop the mayor and the governor decided to impose this curfew from 11 pm till 5 am citing the destruction of property that had been encouraging in an effort to prevent that from continuing as well as the violence they did announce that i was here in times square with hundreds of demonstrators when the word came down just a couple hours ago there this area was filled with people invoking the name of george floyd and calling for reforms to police saying they promise to keep continue protesting so its going to be interesting to see what happens after 11 pm there are 7 different separate protest events planned in the city tonight this is been a very widespread movement very wide ranging Different Groups very grassroots the governor said that he stands behind the protesters and the mare as well said that he. Didnt want violence to undermine their message that this could be a time of change but violence could detracts from the positive change swift action against officers. Who up who dont uphold the values of the city is Something Else that he talked about he said that he had seen videos of conduct from Police Officers in recent days that he was concerned about in the promised a swift investigation but again the message from the mayor and the governor that new yorkers should stay home i should also point out that the covert lockdown is still in place here in new york city except for a sense. Thank you very much grabber and thank you for having me im certainly agreeing with president obama that this could be a turning point where i would differ for from him though is the nature of the turn that has to be made the kind of pivots that have to be made in order to ensure non repetition of the kind of Police Behavior in the Police Killings and murders that weve recently seen in the United States president paul obama talked about reform weve tried reform weve tried to reform the Police Department weve tried to rein in the Police Department to hold the Police Accountable and those measures plus for have not worked we need a true transition in the United States we need a true pivot a true correction. A True Movement to a different reality for all u. S. Citizens and particularly for those of us who are africanamerican and that requires a very very deep fundamental change not just reform but when you talk about that change is that a cultural change or do you think that there should be laws i mean you mentioned that the police is still not being held accountable in the way that it should be so are we talking cultural change legal change perhaps trying to rein in the police or a bit of both. Well cultural you know coke culture follows the law as much as law is connected to culture but this is beyond culture this is about an economic and political systems that has is the bankruptcy of which is left africanamericans without a voice and now threatens their very lives and we see that not just in the pandemic around coded 19 but we see it also in the pen demick of Police Violence that has reared its head and made itself so obvious in the in these horrific videos that have been spread to millions around the world so thats what this is about more than culture this is about more than the culture of racism this is about institutions the institutional of the institutional change thats necessary if were ever to remove ourselves sufficiently of from from the legacy of slavery in this country thats the kind of change that is required and the people who are in the streets those young people who are in the streets question whether ordinary politics going back to the normal ordinary politics in this country can actually get us to where we have to be and thats the persistence thats one of those demonstrations are so persistent and can and will continue to persist im so and so our leadership provides another question a lot of people would argue that that weve seen in the United States for almost the past 4 years this is not seen ordinary politics that theres a man in the white house who is particularly divisive and we can see the protests outside the white house right now the think that perhaps his presence might itself give momentum to to this change youre talking about.
