Could this be part of the missing mh 370 plane. Malaysia sends investigators to find out. First, there are unconfirmed reports that the verdict in the retrial of our journalists in egypt has been postponed until august 8. The news came from Court Security in cairo. But an official announcement has yet to come. The defends lawyers and network were not notified and there will not be a session on thursday. They are accused of colluding with the outlawed muslim brother brotherhood. Charges they and al jazeera deny. One of those, of course, involved in the trial peter was released from prison after 400 days. Hes in sydney. Peter what news have you had any confirmation that this is kick down the road again to august 8 . We are hearing the same as you are. Unconfirmed reports suggesting its been delayed until august 8. Some of those reports have come from a number of ambassadors that said its officially confirmed. I guess we should wait until there is some absolutely definitive statement from the court. It does seem as though we are going to have to wait another week. How confident that within a week you will get this verdict which everybody is awaiting . Look, its really, really difficult for us to say. I thought that this was definitely,th i was going to be the day. I think all of us did. Its not unheard of, but it is unusual for the courts to delay verdicts. We have also seen so many unexpected twists and turns in this trial that i have given up trying to say anything for certain. So i guess we should look forward to the august 8 as the verdict day, but not expect that it will absolutely happen on that day. How would you describe the impact that these constant twists and turns as you describe them and adjournments, what impact is this having on your ability to resume a normal life . You can imagine it makes it impossible. The only thing that any of us are concerned about at this point is the verdict. Thats the thing that will define our lives from that moment on. We cant make any plans we cant be sure about our ability to travel. Its the point at which they arrive to walk away as free men or go back to prison. Everything hedges on that day. To have these twists and delays and turns and so on in this case has made it incredibly difficult for anybody to get on with their lives. This is really messing with their lives. Its not just us as individuals its our family and those around us. It is incredibly frustrating. Obviously, you were through a combination of diplomatic pressure and perhaps im not sure what else. But diplomatic pressure enabled you to walk free. It must make you feel incredibly guilty or do you feel responsibility for the other two still in egypt . Well, yeah, all of the above. As you say, it was diplomatic pressure that worked for me. There was public pressure. The fact is we have no idea. This is the thing that made it difficult for all of ucla. None of us had any idea what it is that convinced the Egyptian Government to let me walk away. We dont know why the court decided to keep me on the books as a defend. We dont know what it is thats caused this delay and probably never will. Its difficult to make any asusment about what this delay might mean and how we move forward. Really, this is a massive there is a bit of a delay on the line. I was going to say its not just our two journalists in egypt. There is a huge amount of concern about the number of other journalists who have been detained and remain in prison. Look, there are. Its difficult to make any comment particularly while im still on trial as a defend. But there has been a lot of concern about the way that the press has been handled over the past year or two. The fact is that the world is watching our case very, very closely, indeed. As a test of the courts commitment to justice. If we look at what if the Court Considers the evidence, its quite clear the prosecutor wasnt able to present any evidence what whatsoever that would confirm we were doing anything illegal or unethical. We are confident on the strength of the evidence we will walk free. But we have learned in the past not to take anything for granted in this case. I think we need to watch this very closely as many other people are doing not just journalists, but diplomats and human rights activists around the world. All right. Good to talk to you peter. Thank you for now. Of course, well be watching events closely indeed. Lets move on to other news. The u. S. Says the latest reports of the taliban leaders death are credible. The Afghan Government said he died more than two years ago. Its denied by the taliban. Its also denied that it will take part in peace talks with the Afghan Government. Israelis parliament legalized the force feeding of prisoners on Hunger Strike. The u. N. Human rights experts and Israeli Medical Association have condemned the move. Both consider force feeding a form of torture and medical risks. We have stephanie in west jerusalem. This is a controversial bill that was passed by a tiny majority. Reporter thats right. Its hugely controversial. What is now means what is law here, is that security prisoners, these are prisoners that israel suspects or has convicted of what it calls terrific related charges. It also allows for jailers to use certain amount of force if the pitchers refuses to be fed. Which is the force feeding bill. The opposition to this has come very strongly from israels medical association. We spoke to one doctor who said that force feeding amounts to rape. There is no difference. They are urging doctors not to undertake this. It goes against all medical ethics, against their belief. A statement from the United Nations urged lawmakers not to pass this vote. It has now passed, it is now law. We did speak to the Legal Adviser to the ministry of Public Security which is the ministry thats been pushing this through. He said in defense he said this is not force feeding, this is a medical help to prisoners that we deem are in risk of losing their lives. If you look at the figures no prisoners lost their life when it comes to hunger striking, but there have been cases of prisoners dieing, two people died after being force fed. It is now law here. You are highlighting the fact that this is a law that will have particular application to those palestinians who are held without trial. Well it has application to anyone on a Hunger Strike. Most people on Hunger Strike, most prisoners are those in administrative detention. What does that mean . They are being held without charge and how that works. They can be arrested, held for six months, which is renewable in a military court. Many of the people on Hunger Strike are those protesting those. We have had opposition members of Parliament Saying rather than force feeding these people, what about charging them or letting them go because the palestinians will tell us, they will tell us prisoners were force fed. He said this is about breaking our spirits. This is not about saving lives. Its controversial and again, i did put this to the man who was part of drafting this law, i said is it military detention prisoners that are doing this. He reiterated that this is about the fear of people losing their lives because they fear a backlash in the occupied west Bank Something they want to prevent. Recapping, looking at the figures, no prisoner has ever died here from Hunger Strike. The u. S. State Department Says its deeply concerned of israels approval of new settler homes in the west bank. They announced plans for 504 new Housing Units in east jerusalem. According to International Law all settlements are illegal. Still to come here, a last minute reprieve denied. India executes the man convicted of the mumbai bombing in 1993. And we report on the mission to change the potatos Bad Reputation in china. Hello again. There are unconfirmed reports that verdicts are postponed until august 8. An official announcement hasnt yet come. They are accused of colluding with the outlawed muslim brotherhood, charges they and al jazeera deny. Israels parliament legalized the force feeding of prisoners on Hunger Strike. U. N. Human rights experts and israels medical association have condemned the move. Both consider force feeding a form oftorture. The Afghan Government announced on wednesday that omar died more than two years ago but thats being denied by the taliban. Lets get back to our top story. That is the postponement of the verdict for the three al jazeera journalists. Nicholas is a researcher at amnesty international. We havent got it confirmed that the trial has been or the verdict has been deferred again. But it does look as though its being put off for another week. What does this tell you about the way the egyptian judicial system is dealing with this case . I think its remarkable that this case has gone on as long as it has. They say that justice delayed is justice denied. Every day this goes on, there is another injustice. There is not a single scrap of evidence to prove they were involved in a terrorist organization. They have presented an open court of family photos that they were involved in an armed group and aimed at overthrowing the Egyptian Government. The trial has become a farce. How significant do you think this is for the egyptian authorities . This trial has become infamous for the opaque way the judicial system in egypt seems to work. Absolutely. Its cast a long shadow over the a giving criminal Justice System its being used to crush dissent. We should look at the human cost of this trial. These men spent over 400 days in egyptian prison before they were released on bail earlier this year. And that time has taken its toll. Peter wrote of this. The court could give the men back their freedom but cant give them back the life that its stolen, that this case has stolen from them. Thank you very much, indeed. Talking to us live from london. Thank you very much. Thank you. Now, we can talk to mohamed thats our journalist, producer in cairo. Of course, hes part of the trial that has now been delayed. We understand again the verdict is being delayed again. I believe hes on the phone. Can you hear me, are you with us . Yes, i can hear you. What do you know . Whats happened . What happened today is really, really strange and disappointing. I came today expecting a verdict to be announced. I came here and i asked one of the officers, the hearings were delayed again. I asked the officer. I dont know the reason. We didnt receive any confirmation from anybody saying it was delayed. We dont know until when. Im scared to leave because i know what happened. He received a life sentence. I dont know what to do. Even the secretary warning that the hearing the verdict be announced today. But hes not answering his phone now. Im afraid to leave. I dont know what will happen. Its irritating and really disappointing. It must be incredibly unsettling. So you are standing outside the court, you are not confident that this information you have received from a Court Official, a junior Court Official is accurate. Who is the authority in the court who can perhaps give you an official rendition of what the situation is . Any judges around . The judge is not around. Hes not here. Nobody can reach him. Hes the only person, i think hes the only person who can delay or postpone the hearing. Now i dont know. I didnt receive any information from him. The secretary is not picking up the phone. All right. Whats your legal team doing . My legal team is here. I have been trying to get in contact with somebody in the criminal court. And they told me that they will check and come back. And they are around. All right. Keep your chin up and keep us posted as exactly what goes on at court or outside court in cairo today. Thank you. All right. Malaysia sent investigators to the French Island of reunion in the indian ocean after part of a plane washed up there. Translator we saw the plane as we were looking at it, i told myself its debris. Reporter aviation experts believe it could be part of mh 370 which disappeared last year. It matched only one plane. It matched the platform in the rear of the wing, everybody says it fits to the boeing 777. Of course, which plane is missing in this area. For hours after the plane disappeared this flight board said it was delayed. As family members gathered, what happened to mh 370 became one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history. It went missing with 239 people on board on march 8 last year. It took off and was destined for beijing. But the plane lost all contact over the gulf of thailand around 40 minutes after takeoff. A massive search operation focusedded on two corridors to the north and south. They concentrated on a 60,000 square kilometer area. Now malaysia is sending a team to reunion island. Whatever wreckage found need to be verified before we can further confirm whether it belong to mh 370. It continued to fly for more than six hours after contact was lost. It entered near deep trench. Underneath the indian ocean its hurricane type weather down there. Wreckage can get dislodged. These are floating devices which can surface themselves and then be drifted off thousands and thousands of miles away. The search will continue. But they are concentrating on what they say is regular routine torture in its jails. Thats absolutely right. This u. N. Tribunal is putting tough questions to the delegation. They are denied the allegations. They issued a statement saying we dont believe this u. N. Tribunal has the right facts. Also doesnt have the right facts, we do not torture people. We have a strong judicial system in place and every prisoner is given due process. They are denying this. There are a number of allegations of torture that havent just surfaced now but surfacing for the last five or six years. Also, quite striking from what the u. N. Is saying is nothing has changed since the Prime Minister took over. That pressage, a period of great hope for iraq, that it would overcome some of its difficulties. Not from this front it seems not, according to the u. S. Thats absolutely right. There is a legal problem here that the iraqis do face. Torture isnt defined that clearly in the iraqi constitution. Thats been some would say quite a deliberate measure by previous governments to allow them to get away. They have a number reports. A number of reports on the existence of these secret prisons. There is publicly available testimony from people who have been inside those prisons who have alleged torture against the Iraqi Government. The Iraqi Government has said no, we are not doing this, but there is plenty of publicly available evidence. All right. Thank you.
