Ferguson as a memorial to the black teenager Michael Brown turns violent. And we visit the south African Wildlife park that says hunting is good for conservation. Well, we begin this news hour in turkey where a series of attacks have taken place across the country. The latest happened when suspected kurdish fighters opened fire on a military helicopter in eastern turkey and four officers were also killed by a land mine near the border of iraq and earlier attackers opened fire on the u. S. Consulate building in the capitol istanbul and followed an explosion on the other side of the city that injured seven people and bernard is live from istanbul and tell us at the attacks that have taken place in the southeast of the country. Its been particularly restive in the province where the last couple of weeks the Turkish Security forces have been involved in fighting with fighters from the Kurdistan Workers Party and p. K. K. Today we understand, monday, first of all a soldier was killed in a military helicopter attacked by rocket launchers and that helicopter was maneuvering troops and then four Police Officers were killed when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb, both of these instances happened in the province near to the border with iraq and at the center of attentions where the fighting is going on between some members of the p. K. K. And the Turkish Security forces, Turkish Security forces as we know have been involved with air strikes with p. K. K. In iraq and parts of southeast turkey. And then of course the u. S. Consulate behind you was targeted as well. What is the situation there, they have not apprehended everybody, have they . Two people involved on the attack of the consulate building and opened fire at a security post connected to the building and its heavily fortified and built on a hill top in the suburb out of the very center of istanbul. In a shootout after that the police shot and injured one woman who was heard to shout on a video we have seen that was filmed by a witness as it was happening and said i did it for my party. The man seems to have escaped so far. The area around here now has been reopened, the roads have been reopened but there still seems to be one man lodged, involved in that shootout. On the other side of istanbul, on the asian side there was an explosion at a Police Station and ten people injured there and three Police Officers and after that explosion as forensic and bomb squad team checked the scene, the attackers were killed and the Police Officer also killed. Reporter Bernard Smith thank you very much for that update. In the last two weeks Turkish Security forces have moved against several groups at once, a limited number of strikes have been launched on i. S. I. S. In syria and a border offensive is due to begin soon and u. S. Jets are now using turkish raids into Northern Syria but the main strikes have been the p. K. K. The turks have launched hundreds of air strikes against the Kurdish Armed group so far and claimed to have killed hundreds of their fighters, inside the government has moved against a group known as the revolutionary People Liberation front or the d. H. K. P. C. And many members arrested in nationwide raids since july in the embassy two years ago and joining me via skype from ankora is a military analyst and turkey correspondent for janes defense weekly. We are just going to start out with this very probably little known group has targeted the u. S. Consulate. What do you make of that . This is very amateur. No, not really. In fact, the d. H. K. P. C. As an organization that was set up years ago in 1994. And its a left eest marked gro and it was resurrected in 2003 with a attack, all side bomb suicide bomb attack in 2013 and the organization claimed responsibility for this u. S. Embassy in 2013 and then in another attack in istanbul in the Police Station, the d. H. K. P. C. Claimed the responsibility of the attack. The group is known with its antiamerican, antinato stance and with liberation of the people against this and so on. In the latest attack against the u. S. Consulate building in istanbul the d. H. K. P. C. Recently claimed responsibility for the attack but have not seen the details of the reasons for why it has taken the responsibility for this attack but it has coincided with the turkey granting access to anticoalition office which has been a dramatic move because in 2013 attack they say the d. H. K. P. C. And they declared they are against the u. S. Military presence and also suspected to have some ties with the syrian president Bashar Alassad regime. Okay, from the sounds of it, lala, it does appear that turkey really is getting it from all sides. I mean, the p. K. K. , this attack on the Police Station and now these two attacks in the southeast of the country, do they have the signature of the p. K. K. On them . The p. K. K. As far as i know has not yet claimed responsibility for an attack. Overnight and yesterday to the Police Station in istanbul. But the Security Forces suspected of an attack is staged by the p. K. K. But the p. K. K. Lately claimed responsibility for an attack of an armed bomb attack in southeastern provinces of turkey and recently and i dont know if we can modify this but turkish Prime Minister i think Prime Minister claimed a kind of cooperation between p. K. K. And the h. P. C. Lately and made those remarks after turkey initiated nationwide operations on three prongs on the state and p. K. K. As well as h. P. K. C. Nationwide in the country. Thank you very much for joining us here on al jazeera, thank you. A car bomb has exploded outside the airport in afghanistans capitol kabul and went off at the civilian entrance and at least five people have been killed and Jennifer Glasse is in kabul for us, what is the latest on this attack, jennifer . Well, the taliban have just claimed responsibility for this attack and in an email they say the target was foreign invader forces and nato says its not one of their convoys at the entrance and people people have been killed and 20 injured among the dead and are women and children and policemen who are stationed at the check point at the airport as well as foreigners, very large explosion at a very busy area and a main entrance to the civilian area of the airport is where people have to stop and vehicles must stop and people must get out of the vehicles and must be physically checked so a very large explosion there and the taliban claiming responsibility. We will leave it there for now, thank you. Next iraqs former Prime Minister malik i has plans to reform the government and abadi had proposals on sunday which would cut several senior posts, announcement follows weeks of the demonstrations of corruption and lack of basic services and wants to get rid of the roles of deputy Prime Minister and vice president. And assad is a member of the state of Law Coalition in iraq and joins me live from baghdad and thank you for joining us on al jazeera and what do you make of this announcement of reforms by mr. Abadi . Thank you very much. It has been awaited for a long time, a list of principals, general principles to assist in combatting corruption and agreements within Political Parties to share the power in iraq. This has definitely proved its failure in providing people with services and providing an environment for iraqi economy to flouri flourish. Sorry, continue. Yes, the idea is that the consensual agreement that was prevailing in forming the previous government proved the short cummings and providing any type of services for the people and therefore now the general principles of reform moves away from consensual agreement and moves into more responsible Prime Minister for its own government where he can choose the members of his government and be answerable to the people. The major problems in iraq at the moment is that the inefficiency and inability of the ministers to perform their duties because of the wrong personalities are in the wrong places and also the amount of corruption that or the political corruption which it means that people of high position can use their political blocks to move into a major corruption field. On the subject of highranking officials and personalities, it seems that he has had a very unlikely source of support from mr. Maliki and do you think this will be sustained during the course of implementing these reforms . Definitely. The state of law has declared complete support for the principles of reforms and the complete support of dr. Abadi, the current Prime Minister, we stand altogether in the state of law to support abadi and assist him in any form or shape he requires of us. This support will continue until all the demands of the people are met. Okay, you are talking about the principles and, you know, full support but lets talk about the reality, how easy is it going to be for these reforms to be implemented . Oh, its going to be very difficult. Tomorrow in the parliament which i believe there will be a general approval of their principles but i expect the problems will start in the implementation of such reforms which will take maybe three or four weeks or even more. Then i think the parliament will revert to its old habits of opposing any reform presented by the Prime Minister. There was a previous attempts by mr. Malaki of reforms which was completely blocked by the parliament. I do believe the parliament will exercise its rejection of these reforms but not tomorrow. It will be exercised on the implementation of reforms maybe in a months time. Interesting times, thank you very much for joining us here on al jazeera. Thank you. Plenty more to come in the news hour including anger and frustration as people in haiti voted in those long, delayed elections. The Washington Post reporter detained in i ran with spying allegations finally has his day in court but behind closed doors and in sport alex focuses his debut on one of the teams greatest players and joy has the details. Reporter voters streamed into polling places across haiti to take part in parliamentary elections and there were problems but didnt appear to be serious or widespread violence. At this voting station many people complained their names were not included on lists of eligible voters and that led to shouting and angry confrontations between disappointed citizens and workers and many people wound up going home without casting their vote. One voter who had no trouble was haiti president. A lot of problems here, people say they are not being allowed to vote. Reporter he wasnt taking any questions. And he is not eligible to run for another term, these elections are about much more than filling empty seats in parliament, haiti has many problems, without political stability the country wont be about to attract International Investment for the economy and projects meant to raise the standard of light for people will suffer if the political situation deteriorates and many polling places are in remote parts of the countryside and must be taken to Port Au Prince to be counted by hand. The council says it will be 6tendays before the results of this election are known and expected to be a second round, a Runoff Election in october and in that month as well the first votes will be cast for haitis new president , Port Au Prince. People came from near and far in affirmation of the slogan his death inspired, black lives matter. There will be peace even though there is no justice. I feel like the burden of making change falls on white people, not black people. It has been a year, there has been changes but there are still phenomenal changes to come that are needed so. Hello and reminder of the top stories on al jazeera and attacks across turkey and four officers have been killed in the southeast of the country earlier in istanbul attackers opened fire on a u. S. Consulate building and a bomb also explode outside of a Police Station injuring seven people. A car bomb has exploded outside the airport in afghanistans capitol kabul, at least five have been killed and 20 wounded and taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. And a man is in a Critical Condition in the u. S. City of ferguson after an exchange of gunfire with police as they mark a year since the teenager Michael Browns death and he was unarmed when he was shot dead by a white Police Officer. And ahead of the International Red cross said the humanitarian situation in yemen is catastrophic and peter has been touring the capitol sanaa where he met with houthi leaders and nearly 4 thundershower killed and 1. 3 million displaced since the saudiled air Campaign Began in march and yemen in the fighting have been taken to jordan for treatment and we are joined life from amman and it sounds quite distressing. It does. And we were just listening in to a News Conference by msf Doctors Without Borders where we listened to some of the staff, the doctors who had just come back from yemen talk about the medical and Health Situation there and a lot of them are saying and have said in this conference that basically the needs are tremendous, that although they have eight different facilities in yemen more access is needed and more medical help is needed and they talk about the issue of movement, the issue of them being able to access other areas within the country to assess the medical needs and they are saying that is very difficult and as well the movement of people, civilians, those who are injured and those who are sick and sometimes not able to get to medical facilities when they need to and that puts them at risk of having worse wounds than injuries and also talking about the fact that civilians are being disproportionately effected by the conflict and are suffering tremendously and with me to talk about this more from msf is their spokesperson terry who just got back from aiden where he spent a couple of months there and you were there when it was under siege by houthi fighters and after they were pushed out. What is the situation we heard about areas being put to the ground and what are the medical needs . Yes, after 4 1 2 months of conflict the Health System is on the verge of collapsing. You were talking about difficulty of access and this is true in aiden as well and its very dangerous to move around. Sometimes at checkpoints people were stopped but also people had no means to pay for drugs and to get medical care. So in aiden we have one hospital but three other hospitals were still functional but we were treated or wounded. What about the medical needs of the people, there are some who are not able to get treated when they needed to and their injuries have obviously become worse and called for more medical intervention and agencies to come and help you out and the ircrc as well. Yes, the hops have to be rehabilitated, they have to receive more medical supplies, fuel, and now the situation has improved a little bit in the past weeks because the airport is open. The port is open. And forces have been pulled out of the aiden. So now i think its about time that the big u. N. Organizations in order of humanitarian organizations to step in and to provide massive help and free of charge, this is very important. On civilians being disproportionately affected by this crisis, what can you tell us about that . Indeed, not only because of the conflict itself, i mean, yes, we receive hundreds and hundreds of wounded and sometimes in one day and all civilians but because of the impact it has on the Health System for instance people dont have access to primary healthcare, for chronic diseases or obstetrics and there was even some outbreaks going on, epidemics of denge fever and malaria and typhoid fever. That is the view from those who treated this and all sides of the conflict to respect medical facilities and to facilitate the movement of citizens when they need to. Thank you very much. Reporter one of the main problems is poverty and lack of education and affects millions of people and what it means in indonesia is that what it means is they are not developing properly and many are worried they could have implications on this countrys future. That is something the world bank has been pushing the indonesia government to take seriously. In terms of prosperity you are not making use of close to 40 of the population so its as simple as that. You have people out there and these people are doomed to fail in society. They are not going to be able to contribute to generate prosperity, right . The government has programs in place that deal with malnutrition but the figures show stunting has not improved since 2010. And this is the older brother and he is 23 years old and means lack of physical and Mental Development and many worry if nothing is done to address the issue a third of indonesia children could face the same fate, western java. Reporting from western java. Stephanie decker. Now, marie is head of hunger at save the children and she says global malnutrition is much more serious than people realize. Children are not getting enough vitamin a, zync and iron for example and become deficient in essential nutrients and not enough calories and under weight and need these calories to grow and to be strong and also if their environment is not right and not living in a clean hygiene environment and no access to clean and sanitation and this is problematic picking up bugs and worms and can exacerbate the problem. For many years countries were just dealing with under nutrition and we see countries are dealing with the many types of nutrition and not just under nutrition and overweight and obesity and many countries are dealing with these different types of malnutrition all at the same time so countries are facing very complex issues that they need to solve.
