Audi, VW’s software unit join group developing safe system architecture for self-driving vehicles
Working group aims to help pave the way for mass production of autonomous cars

VW is preparing a version of its ID Buzz upcoming microbus with Level 4 autonomy -- meaning the vehicle can drive itself under certain conditions -- to be ready for commercial transport of people and goods for 2025.
Audi, British semiconductor company Arm, and Cariad, Volkswagen Group's automotive software unit, are among the initial partners of a "safe software" working group established within The Autonomous, an organization dedicated to developing autonomous vehicle technology.
