Men in black international, we have the hummingbird project, which is a film about obsession, and a childs eye view of the world in we the animals. Always have a mixed bag. Men in black, i remember seeing the first one, i didnt think they would make three more. Youre not alone. I thought the first was great. I thought it was smart, funny, i like the special effects, i thought the story was well told. Second one, terrible, third one, not great. The fourth instalment has attempted to breath new life in it. Tessa thompson is molly, who as a child met an alien, nobody believed her, and she decides she wants to become one of the men in black, she pursues this dream and meets up with Emma Thompsons agent 0. She then teamed up with Chris Hemsworth in an adventure which involved extraterrestrials and the most powerful weapon ever in the universe and also Kumail Nanjiani playing a pawn in a chess set who is looking for a queen. Excuse me. What happened here . We had the best party. Kanye showed up and dropped like the best album. Look around, we got our as is kicked my queen ill never serve another. I must rnd my own life in the most painful way possible. I dont think that she would want you to, you know. Who are you to know what a queen would or wouldnt want . Are you a queen . Well, to the extent that all women are, yes. But no, no. Im not a queen. You know what she is, though, is an agent. Is that a title . It is a title. Maybe the best way to honour the dead is to go on living. Yes. I pledge loyalty eternally to you, agent m. No, no, no, im not interested in a subject. Too late, its done, ive pledged the loyalty. If you should die before i, i promisedto end my own life. In the most painful way possible. Now, you didnt laugh during that. That is some of the best stuff in the film. I think that character is the funniest character in the film and i did have a few chuckles during it. The main problem is men in black was really good but you are right, didnt necessarily need all these sequels . It is not terrible, it is just terribly ordinary. There is an awful lot of visual effects going on, an awful lot of stuff being thrown at the screen, but it felt disposable. Tempting to say a new director has come onto direct. Barry sonnenfeld was behind the previous behind the previous sequels, neither of them were as good as the first one. I do think Kumail Nanjiani is a really funny writer and performer. I think that is not anything like enough to paste over the cracks. Is that the hollywood way . If they are making money, why not keep making them . There was a law that a sequel will take two thirds of what the original took regardless of how good or bad, that is no longer the case but if you have name recognition, your money is safer, even if the film itself is frankly not up to snuff. The hummingbird project, is that good . I think it is. Jesse eisenberg, he was so edgy in social network, he plas someone who is a trader, who bullies his cousin into leaving the organisation they work for, and joining him in digging a trench from kansas to new york, down which he can put a fibre cable that will shave the time of trading from 17 ms to 16 ms. And this apparently will create a tiny opportunity equivalent to the beating of a hummingbirds wing that will allow them to get ahead of the game. The funny thing is it sounds terribly unpromising. In fact, it is really gripping. There is a great performance by salma hayek as the boss who doesnt want to let them go. A touch of Werner Herzog in it. It is about somebody dedicated themselves to a dream which is mad which involves them burying this pipeline through rivers and mountains, no matter what it is, they have to carry on going through a straight line. On one hand, it is about family loyalty, on the other hand, the vision of having a faster way of doing something but it is about obsession and giving yourself over to an obsession and i can take over your life even to the detriment of your health. I actually thought it was really good. We the animals. The kids are left to fend for themselves. It felt very naturalistic but it also had a real poetry to it. He is a clip. What if its pops . Telephone rings. Hello . Mami. How come you didnt answer when i called you . Because you sound so ugly. Here, try. Yo yo, whats up . Woman this is your husband talking to you right now. You better act right what do you want from me . Digame, mami, talk to me. Ive been missing you. Ive been missing you real bad. I know, mami, i know. Im sorry. No, baby, im sorry. I think that has got a really lovely natural tone to it and what i really like is on the one hand it has that charming naturalism, but it is also very poetic. You feel every drop of rain, you can feel the mud between their fingers when they are burrowing around in the ground. There are moments in which it goes to animation because the youngest character draws and these animations come to life. It deals with some very difficult subject matter, it deals with kids coming to terms with their own sexuality, it deals with a violent relationship between their parents and trying to find their own way in the world. It is tempting to say it is like that kind of movie Terrence Malick made before he went off the boil or the kind of thing David Gordon Green did when he was making films like malick. Is it is closer to the florida project. The world is harsh and tough but actually it is being looked at through a childs eyes and it has a real poetic feel to it. It is a feature debut and i thought it was very fine and effective piece of working. The acting looked extraordinary. You literally thought you were eavesdropping on those three kids having a completely normal and charming and really tender conversation about something which is very difficult which is that their parents are having difficulties. I really liked it. Best out . Dirty god. It is about a woman who is a survivor of an acid attack and is trying to redefine her life. She is brilliant. This actress, you would think she had been before a camera all her life, it is a really natural but very complicated performance, and i think she is an absolute star in the making. The film itself is really good, it deals with difficult subject matter in a way which is subtle and effective. She is an absolute star, i thought her performance was extraordinary, vicky knight, a name to watch for the future. My best out is rocket man. I loved it. We both want to see it again. You come out of the cinema and you want to watch it again straightaway because it is so good. Highly recommended. Best stream . If beale street could talk. I think barryjenkins is great. It is a film about social justice and imprisonment, but it is at heart a love story. If people didnt see it in cinemas, and many people didnt, didnt find the audience it should have done, get it on dvd or blu ray, it is fabulous. Barryjenkins did moonlight. Moonlight, it is astonishing that film did as well as it did, it came out of nowhere, a little independent movie. It just itjust one over the hearts of eve ryo ne itjust one over the hearts of everyone who saw it. We have got used to the fact that it was a huge hit, it started as a really, really small movie that just found its audience and deservedly so. It is great that that can still happen in todays hollywood. It renews your faith in films when Something Like that can be discovered. There is a blockbuster market out there. Rocket man is a film that takes risks, more than Bohemian Rhapsody did, but it still finds a mainstream audience. We are in a pretty good period at the moment. People say cinema isnt as good as it used to be. Barry norman said every year there are the same number of comparatively good and bad films. And we have a mixed bag every week and it is up to you to decide which are good and which are bad. Thank you. That is it for this week. Thank you for watching. But is it bye from both of us. Hello. The weekend is not looking as wet as it has been but there will still be some rain or showers around at times because low pressure is still close by towards the northwest of the British Isles and around that spiralling with some disturbances bringing bands of showers our way. It will be a fairly breezy and not especially warm weekend but a bit warmer than it has been for some. Sunshine and a can shift chance of showers on a breezy weekend and we start saturday morning and quite wet in Northern Ireland with rain towards western scotland and through parts of wales and western england. This first disturbance moves eased during the day and the showers will become more patchy as that happens but still the chance as it moves further east in catching one or two heavier ones. Ahead, some sunny spells and maybe a shower and behind it some showers developing. Breezy with 20 celsius in the warmest parts of Eastern England but most will fall a few degrees sure of that. As we go through saturday evening, another disturbance bringing in some more showers and this time it looks like work southwest england and wales. Clear spells elsewhere and maybe the odd shower around northwestern parts of scotland as we go deeper into the night. Julius spots dipping down to a close to mid cycle figures. That takes us onto part two of the weekend with another look at the big picture. Deja vu would low pressure still close by and no hurry to move away as we get these weather disturbances moving in from the west. The first of them with a few showers across Northern England and especially the northwest into southwest scotland and pushing for the north across scotla nd and pushing for the north across scotland and seem more developing with heavy downpours towards Northern Ireland and maybe into wales and the southwest as well. A chance for a shower elsewhere but also some sunny spells around and anything sunday looks a bit breezy her. Still close to 20 across parts of Eastern England and most of us around the mid to upper teens. Take around the mid to upper teens. Take a look into monday, again showers around with heavy ones in scotland that may be thundering in a band of cloud and maybe the odd spot of rain trying to edge further east into east anglia and the southeast. If anything, it will be a few degrees warmer. The story of next week it is where things terminally drive for a time on tuesday and a bit warmer but then wetter again from midweek and then wetter again from midweek and then of the week, a few showers around and things will turn a bit cooler.
