The us house of representatives has approved a a. 5 billion aid package for migrants stuck at the border with mexico. President trump has already threatened to veto the bill. The funds are intended to help improve standards amid reports of squalid conditions in detention centres these reports are thought to have contributed to the resignation of the head of the us customs and Border Protection agency. A lawyer who visted one facility near el paso told the bbc many children were kept in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions often with no care or supervision. Joining me now is our north america correspondent peter bowes. This is getting very, very legible. Nobody can deny the conditions these children are held in. Itsjust not right at all. Yes, this issue certainly has been catapulted back into the headlines over the last couple of days because of those reports are be heard coming from that centre where those children we re that centre where those children were being kept in quite squalid conditions, described as really like is in cell with concrete floors, just a toilet in the middle of the, there was an out of influenza, there we re there was an out of influenza, there were children without nappies, babies without nappies, toddlers being cared for by children just a few years older. Terrible, conditions. They seem to have focused the minds of politicians passing the bill, you mentioned a. 5 billion, the money is designed to help those children and the general chaos, and crisis on the border. There will be extra medical help for children, better housing, legalaid for the families of migrants and this is designed to alleviate what is generally now considered to be a crisis situation. In some of those centres along the border. But when President Trump was quizzed about this, he said, the conditions are better than when president 0bama was in office and its because of the democrats we havent got more money to help and yet, it would seem he wa nts to to help and yet, it would seem he wants to veto this bill. Way to be go from here . Why do we go from here . It may have passed democratic control but if the president veto vetoes it isnt going to go anywhere. There is a similar bill being considered in the senate and may well stand a better chance of seeing the light of day. This is a Major Political hot potato with people still moving, migrants moving into the United States in huge numbers of there is no sign in the short that changing. Thank you for now, peter. Denmark is the third nordic country this year to elect a left leaning government. The British Foreign secretaryjeremy hunt says hes the man who can be trusted to deliver brexit. His conservative leadership contender, borisjohnson, insists the uk will leave the European Union at the end of october even if a deal isnt in place. In a bbc interview, mr hunt said that while he was prepared to leave without an agreement, he would not do so if a better deal was within reach. Both rs and i want to change that deal. In thejudgement is, who is the person we trust as Prime Minister both boris and i. It is about the personality of a per minister. If you choose someone where there is no trust, is going to be no negotiation, no deal. And quite possibly a general election which could mean we have no brexit either. If you choose someone that the other side will talk to who was going to be very tough, they will at least be negotiation and i believe there is a deal to be done. You dont trust Boris Johnson . You there is a deal to be done. You dont trust borisjohnson . You dont think is trustworthy as per minister . I would never make those comments about a fellow cabinet minister. Well, hang on. No, let me finish. I would serve our restau ra nts a nd to finish. I would serve our restaurants and to the very best of my ability to make his Prime Ministership success and hope he would do the same for me. You have sat there in a race of two and said, this is about who will be contrast, someone this is about who will be contrast, someone who we this is about who will be contrast, someone who we can this is about who will be contrast, someone who we can trust like me or someone we someone who we can trust like me or someone we cant trust. You are clearly talking about your opponent in this race and saying he is not trustworthy. No, i am saying i am trustworthy. No, i am saying i am trustworthy and i do believe that i can be trusted to deliver this deal andi can be trusted to deliver this deal and i got a background as an entrepreneur, as a negotiator, a someone entrepreneur, as a negotiator, a someone whos done very big complex negotiations like getting the extra £20 billion for the nhs which i did when i was health secretary, but also throughout my life. So i think ican also throughout my life. So i think i can deliver that but obviously, members of the conservative party need to make their choice as to who is most likely to come back with that deal. Jeremy hunt talking to our Political EditorLaura Kuennsburg there. Iain anderson, founder of the International Communications agency, cicero group is with me. This time yesterday, we were listening to Boris Johnson this time yesterday, we were listening to borisjohnson talking to laura, give us your take on how these two candidates are doing, now being grilled on the key issues and the biggest issue, brexit. The first thing to say is that they are now being grilled, boris had hidden away from the cameras, he had not wanted to do from the cameras, he had not wanted todoa from the cameras, he had not wanted to do a full one on one interview that were starting to see and unpack his approach to this. What you make ofjeremy hunt s line saying, iam what you make ofjeremy hunt s line saying, i am the one that russells trusts . I am the one that will get the best deal for the trusts . I am the one that will get the best dealfor the uk brussels. Because russells trust me and that is important and that is the and and they wont trust boris. Brussels. The and and they wont trust boris. Brussels. His character is a key pa rt boris. Brussels. His character is a key part of this conservative election. He was going to be britains next Prime Minister . Hes heading for same sort of outcome. This anger is going to be a matter of weeks before britain leaves the European Union later in 2019. The problem both men have got remains that parliament, i think, remains deadlocked. And there is a huge chance that britain remains a member of the European Union after the 31st of the European Union after the 31st of october. Maybe even after the end of october. Maybe even after the end of 2019. Because i dont think parliament is going to that either man take britain out without it deal unless, of course, all of this triggers a general election. And i think the prospect of a general election are going significantly up through all of this. All right, we will talk more about this after the news briefing. It is all over the front page today, we will unpack that and other stories later in this programme. Still to come in the briefing. The concept of god was given to me for my Christian Education as being the ideal of love so if the ideal of love is more powerful than it should fix all the problems. I did not know of the concept of atheism back then and that the word even existed. When i told my family i am not a muslim anymore i was faced with extreme anger. I was faced with threats. When i was a child, my mum handed me a little book on bears and in the introduction they were three pages on the evolution of bears and it made more sense to me than the creation story. I started doubting islam after i participated in a protest against the embassy demonstrating against cartoons and it never made sense to me by drawing a cartoon would unleash such hate and anger. In school they taught us that when people drink alcohol, they do horrible things, such as they rape each other and kill each other. When you think of breakdancing, this is probably the sort of thing you have in mind a gritty, urban setting, Self Expression from the streets. But breakdancing, or breaking, is now one step closer to becoming a global sporting event, the International Olympic committee seeing it as a way to reach a whole new audience. The success in the youth 0lympic games in buenos aires was a clear demonstration that of the fact that its very attractive for youth. One of the principles in the breaking community is, each one, teach one, meaning that the one who have experience immediately transfers knowledge to the next generation. 0rganisers say they want to introduce new events that are more gender balanced, younger and urban, which could mean new possibilities for brea kdancers everywhere. In terms of the european heatwave we are asking how you keep call. 0ne says they are cancelling a visit to the west and, in london, it is supposed to be 30 degrees in london on saturday. Another says it is always fresh up north. I will see you soon for business briefing. Hello. Thats the Stormy Weather over with for now, and for the rest of the week, it is turning warmer and sunnier. For many, though, the flow of air around this area of High Pressure coming into north sea coastal counties will keep it relatively cool here compared with elsewhere, and rather misty and murky at times. Still a lot of cloud as we start off wednesday morning across a large part of england, parts of wales. Still quite muggy across southern areas. Single figures, though, for some in scotland. And it is, during wednesday, scotland and Northern Ireland that will see the lions share of the sunshine. Western counties of wales brightening up, parts of north west and southern england. The odd shower in the far south west of england. Keeping a lot of cloud, though, from east wales, through much of the midlands, and towards north east england during the day. Now, this flow of air from the north is turning things fresher from the north. It does turn quite windy, though, through English Channel coasts, and the flow is coming into north sea coasts, and thats why temperatures here are held downjust towards the mid teens in some spots. But from western scotland, Northern Ireland, west wales, into southern england, the warm spots here will be into the low 20s, and theres something warmer and sunnier to come as we go through the rest of the week. Still, overnight into thursday, some areas of low cloud, particularly into parts of england and wales, so rather misty and perhaps still a little drizzly in a few spots. Where its been so warm and muggy, it is going to be a fresher night, with lower temperatures going into thursday morning. And then on thursday, yes, therell be some areas of low cloud, particularly across parts of central and eastern england. The bulk of that will disappear. West will be warmest, and temperatures are creeping up a few degrees on thursday, so some spots at this stage will be into the upper 20s. High pressure just repositioning itself slightly, as we go to friday, out into the north sea. So were now starting to tap into some even warmer air coming in from the continent, particularly targetted again towards western parts of the uk, where were going to see those higher temperatures. A lot of sunshine around, still a bit of low cloud near these north sea coasts in some spots. But it is going to be the warmest day in the west, where some here in north west scotland, for example, could be near 30 degrees celsius. Now, Western Areas will turn cooler over the weekend. The weekend starts, actually, with something hotter to the east, and particularly in south east england, with temperatures peaking into the low 30s on saturday. But if you dont like the sound of that, thank goodness youre not elsewhere in europe, with these temperatures on the cards this week, as the european heatwave hits hard.
