Israel has been widely criticised in the United States for its decision to ban a visit by two us congresswomen whove spoken out against its policies towards the palestinians. The Israeli Government blocked the trip by ilhan omar and Rashida Tlaib after president trump, their frequent critic, said it would be a sign of great weakness to let them in. John mcmanus has the latest. They are allies, a partnership which has seen israels security guaranteed by American Friendship and firepower. Which is why the decision by the israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu to bar two us Congress Women from his country has so many ramifications. Ilhan omarand country has so many ramifications. Ilhan omar and Rashida Tlaib were planning to visit eastjerusalem and the west bank, but. Translation israeli law prohibits the entry into israeli law prohibits the entry into israel of those who call for and work to impose boycotts on israel. This is what the interior minister decided regarding these two congresswomen, and i agree with him. But that decision came very shortly after President Donald Trump tweeted this both women have been critical of the relationship between the us and israel, and ilhan omar has been forced to apologise for past state m e nts forced to apologise for past statements about israel. But this decision has been criticised by a Cross Section of groups. The pro israel lobby apaic said all members of congress should be able to visit, and its a reversal of a previous promise to allow the visit to happen. Netanyahu happen. Neta nyahu knows this happen. Netanyahu knows this as well. He did this for domestic political purposes just as trump is doing this for political domestic purposes. Trump is appealing to the evangelical portion of his base, which he really needs to be re elected next year, just as neta nyahu needs to be re elected next year, just as netanyahu needs trump support for his own re election next month. Despite that, some suggest it may be unwise for the Israeli Government to target american politicians. The consensus around israel in washington depends on the goodwill of both sides of the political divide. John mcmanus, bbc news. North korea says it has no intention of holding any more direct talks with south korea a day after its neighbour called for reunification in the next 25 years. The north has also carried out another suspected missile test. Live now to the south korea and our correspondent laura bicker in the capital seoul. How have those comments been received in south korea . Well, this has been a blistering Statement Released from pyongyang. Theres no name attached, it comes from a kind of almost semi notified committee, really. Not really one of the committees wed normally hear from. However, it does describe president moon as delusional for thinking there can be dialogue between north and south korea at this time and it goes on to describe president moons beach yesterday, which was a landmark speech for him in many ways. He called for the reunification, an unprecedented vow for reunification by 2045. When he made that speech, north korea will undoubtedly have been watching. They describe this, and wait for it because its worth listening to, he described the remarks as being so preposterous that theyd make the boiled head of a cow laugh. Thats the kind of language that went into the kind of language that went into the statement. Today, both the blue house, the president ial palace, and the Unification Ministry have described this as not helpful and theyve also condemned the latest projectiles, as theyve been called, fired from the east coast as again, not helpful, and they are urging north korea to cease and desist from increasing tensions on the korean peninsula. Unbelievable comments, laura. Lets talk a bit more about these projectiles. Weve had two summits, one historic meeting and yet this is the sixth such missile test we understand in the last month oi so. Test we understand in the last month or so. What chance do denuclearisation talks have of succeeding . Well, the problem with these missile tests is yes, youre right, this is the sixth test in 23 days and in fact north korea hasnt just tested these missiles, these are new Weapons Systems, three new Weapons Systems to be exact, many of which are capable of flying very low and very fast and some of which can be manoeuvred midair, meaning theyd be manoeuvred midair, meaning theyd bea be manoeuvred midair, meaning theyd be a nightmare for Missile Defence systems. Overall this means when firing short range missile tests, the us turn a blind eye. Theyve given kim jong un a free pass. Donald trump hasnt condemned these missile tests in anyway. Whereas here in south korea, where they pose a threat with this kind of range, then of course theyre going to condemn it and they believe it raises tensions on the peninsula. But their ally the United States dont see it in those terms. It may well be that with these statements and these tests, north korea are testing the waters. Theyd know the United States arent bothered by them, they have a direct line to donald trump and they can count south korea out of the picture and the negotiations. When it comes to these missiles it may mean any time they sit down with the United States they sit down with the United States they can discuss the long range missiles, nuclear weapons, but they can discuss the long range missiles, nuclearweapons, but if the United States isnt bothered by the United States isnt bothered by the short term missiles, maybe if denuclearisation ever happens north korea can keep hold of these short range missiles the United States doesnt really care about. Thanks very much, laura. Laura bicker in seoulfor us. Lets brief you on some of the other stories making the news. The Kings Cross Development in london has shops, offices and an a nswer london has shops, offices and an answer school and this week the sites owner confirmed cameras using facial recognition top energy are scanning visitors. Now big rather watch says its uncovered other exa m ples of watch says its uncovered other examples of where the Controversial Technology is being used. The data watchdog has launched an investigation into the use of facial recognition at the Kings Cross Development and says its deeply concerned about the growing use of the technology. Rory cellan jones, bbc news. Here in the uk, the machinations over brexit continue apace. The opposition Leaderjeremy Corbyn had proposed to stop a no deal brexit by having himself appointed as caretaker leader of a government of national unity. But that seems to have found only limited favour, and the uncertainty remains as profound as ever. The clock is ticking britain is due to leave the eu by october the 31st. Kulveer ranger, Vice President for strategy at atos, joins me now. We talk about the government of national unity, were not that far out and there doesnt seem to be unity in terms of the public and politicians. Youre right, and this play from Jeremy Corbyn yesterday with this letter, another act of pure politics really because jeremy letter, another act of pure politics really becauseJeremy Corbyn is acutely aware he doesnt really have unity within his own party. There area number of unity within his own party. There are a number of labour mps who have been very disenfranchised with his leadership, and this reach across or open offer to say he could provide a unity government doesnt really hold water at this point because there arent the numbers in his own party to support him let alone the other sides. This is demonstrating the need for politicians to be honest about their positions, the need for them to decide where they are on the remain leave spectrum of the brexit conversation, but also how does that stand in terms of their own partys views . Weve seen certain politicians, sarah wollaston, who was a conservative mp, then went to an independent and within the last 48 hours has become a liberal democrat. This is highly confusing for the public who are just not clear on where their politicians stand, both in terms of which parties theyre sitting in but also the remain leave conversation. Its difficult. For those who dont back a no deal brexit, they appear to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. What seems to be the least bad option between a no deal brexit on the one hand and potentially a corbin led government on the other. Yes, as somebody put it yesterday, which lesser of two evils are you willing to accept . The real question when talking about no deal is it a wolf in lambs clothing . Is a no deal proposition. People trying to stop a no deal people trying to stop brexit . It still comes down to whether you think brexit should happen. It appears people are saying they dont want a no deal brexit and theyre taking that position because theyre taking that position because they dont want brexit and theyll use the angle of saying no deal is bad for the country. This is raising the tension between the people, the so called lowercase democrats, who wa nt to so called lowercase democrats, who want to say we are delivering on the referendum result of 2016, and did say that the country did vote for a brexit. Tricky as always, isnt it . Well go through the papers, in particular the guardian article on this, so ill see you soon, kulveer. Thanks very much. After a drier day on thursday, with some sunshine, things are going downhill for friday. Weve got this area of low pressure coming in from the atlantic. It will sit in the north west of the uk over the next few days. At the moment its pushing ahead these weather fronts, thickening the cloud and bringing in some outbreaks of rain from the west, slowly but surely. And that rain on friday is going to be heaviest across wales in the south west, over the hills. 2 3 inches of rain there may well be some localised flooding. A dry start still for eastern parts of england. But heres our rainband, with some of the rain heavy at times. You may get some sharp showers following in behind across southern scotland. But eventually it will brighten up in scotland and more readily for Northern Ireland in the afternoon, with some sunshine. The winds will be quite brisk with that rain as well. Strong, maybe even gale force around some western and coastal areas. And where we get the sunshine in scotland and Northern Ireland temperatures could poke up to 21 22. Under the cloud it will be nearer 18 or 19. Now, we may get away with a dry morning session at lords for day three, but once the rain arrives, around about lunchtime, it will still be there through the rest of the day. So a wet end to the day across england and wales. Some sharp showers still for scotland and Northern Ireland, well into the night. You can see how the rain moves away from the south east of england, clearer skies follow. It shouldnt be too chilly here though, 15 16 degrees. 12 or 13 further north. Now for saturday, we will find most of the showers is coming into scotland and Northern Ireland. Some heavier ones for western scotland. A few showers for england and wales. Not many getting through to eastern areas, a good chance of staying dry here. And those temperatures probably back up to 21 or 22 degrees at best. Notice some wetter weather coming into the north west of scotland. And with that low pressure close by it will be quite a wet weekend here. And theres the of that weather front returning into the south east of england on saturday night. That should have cleared away by sunday morning. And were back into this sunshine and showers sort of mix. Maybe a few more showers across england and wales on sunday. But again, the main focus of them will be for scotland and Northern Ireland. Some of these heavy and thundery. The winds picking up again on sunday, with fresh to strong winds, maybe touching gale force in one or two places. That will make it feel cooler, particularly for scotland and Northern Ireland. 21 or so in the south east. This is the business briefing. Im sally bundock. Heading for safety.
