The liberal democrat leaderjo swinson has been focusing her efforts on predominantly remain supporting seats in the south of england and in london. And in scotland, Nicola Sturgeon from the snp made her pitch in edinburgh. And people cannot make decisions and businesses cannot invest and theres about £150 billion worth of Foreign Direct Investment that will come into this country as soon as we get brexit done and get our deal over the line, and we can get brexit done. Because we have a deal. It is ready to go. As i said before, it is oven ready. Labour says itll renegotiate the brexit deal within three months and hold a new referendum on that deal in six months. The liberal democrats have gone further they say theyll stop brexit immediately. We are an internationalist party, a liberal party, we recognise that this is a fight for the soul of our country. Are we open or closed . Are we generous or selfish . Do we reach out and work with others or do we pull up the drawbridge . And whether it is guaranteeing our prosperity or our security, or tackling the climate emergency, we know we can do that so much better by working with our closest neighbours. The snp also supports a second referendum, or stopping brexit if a no deal brexit is inevitable. On non brexit issues, labour is pledged to nationalise a number of public services, including rail and broadband internet. Its also pledged £400 billion for infrastructure, 100,000 new Council Houses every year, and funding boosts for schools and hospitals. The nhs in particular became a Huge Campaign issue for labour. We have an nhs crisis all over the country. We are 40,000 nurse vacancies, we have doctor vacancies, we have all kinds of Specialist Services that are not properly funded. We have a maintenance problem in many of our hospitals and we have 10 billion in privatisation that is happening. 0ur nhs needs money and it needs a government that is prepared to support it. The conservatives have also promised more funding for the nhs pledging 50,000 nurses, although as we now know 19,000 of those will be existing staff who otherwise may have left. The party is also promising an extra 20,000 Police Officers thats fewer than the number cut by the conservatives in the last nine years. So both of the major parties have made large spending promises. Heres pauljohnson from the institute for fiscal studies. We know that the conservatives over the last two electoral cycles have ended up spending and borrowing a lot more than they said they would in their manifesto. I think that will happen again because they are suggesting nothing in the way of additional spending this time around. Beyond what is already announced. Labour has an enormous manifesto, vast spending increases in tax increases which probably cannot be delivered within a single parliament. Sean is in westminster. She basically gave the court a History Lesson and said what was happening there was the military carrying out a counterinsurgency operation against militants who had attacked police in the area. She did admit as we heard in that clip quite a significant admission from her that maybe in that operation, there had been human rights abuse, by rogue soldiers, but she told the court that they would be dealt with within the militarys own Justice System and there was no need for the International Community to get involved. In fact, she said it would be harmful to solving this conflict. Rebecca, from what we understand, the role of this court has what powers does it have when we get to the end of this process . Fairly limited powers, but what is really happening is an extraordinary situation where you see Aung San Suu Kyi having to stand before the world court and effectively trying just court and effectively trying to justify these crimes that gambia laid out for three hours. What the gambia is asking the court to do is to put provisional measures in place, basically stop measures to say that myanmar cannot carry out any more violence against the rohingya community, they say they need to be far reaching in measure in terms of the fact that myanmar will have to report to the court in the coming months to show that no violence has taken place. They also want myanmar to commit to not destroying any evidence that may be used in a further genocide case that could take place in the International Criminal court where you would see members of the military put on trial. This is something the United Nations independent Fact Finding Team did call for, they said the crime that had been committed there were significant enough that there should be a criminal charge. But this court is quite limited in what it can decide. But it may lead to further economic sanctions if it is found guilty in the same light of what we have seen from the United States this week. Us safety regulators predicted a high chance of future accidents involving the boeing 737 max aircraft but failed to ground the planes until after a second fatal crash. The federal Aviation Authority has been giving testimony in a congressional hearing today. As this document shows, after the first crash in october last year, faa analysts predicted there could be as many as 15 more fatal accidents if the planes software wasnt fixed. You dont see businesses putting money into their businesses putting money into their businesses to try and grow them. That is suggesting uncertainty and holding them back. Exports are weaker and of course, a lot of the talk was about trade in the kinds of trade agreements and what that impact will have on the us economy. Well look at how brexit has divided the country along party lines, and the issue of trust in our politicians. Nobel peace peace prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi, defends myanmar against accusations of genocide. And the European Union has unveiled ambitious Climate Change targets well take a look throughout this campaign, the issue of whether we can trust politicians has been central. More so than ever, social media has helped to amplify every message including those that are misleading or straight out untrue. These are some high profile examples. This is borisjohnson in september promising 40 new hospitals in a video posted on twitter. I have been at North Manchester this morning and i have been launching our programme with to before built for new hospitals. This simply isnt true. Despite this, borisjohnson has continued to talk about 40 hospitals. Hes aware that these claims have been shown to be false, but has kept doing this. In fact he did it again a short while ago at a rally. We can move on with the incredible progress that we have made in the past 130 days. How many new hospitals are going to build . 40. The News Organisation tortoise has looked at a range of political ads and found that the conservatives have promoted Incorrect Information more than any other party. Yesterday, the Non Profit Organisation first draft published a study of all paid for political ads on facebook in the first 4 days of december. 88 of conservatives most widely promoted ads had been flagged by Fact Checking operations as not correct or not entirely correct. No misleading claims were found in labour ads in the period they looked at. The lib dems were found to have repeatedly used graphs to back up their claims with no source on the data provided. On that these are bar charts suggesting the lib dems are polling first in particular seats when thats far from clear cut. In very small print below you can see the source is a single day s polling. Some labour claims have been questioned too. Earlier this month the party released a dossier which claimed the conservatives failure to curb rising bills has cost families almost £6,000 a year since 2010. But as bbc reality check points out thats not the whole picture because its based on one family type its not representative of everyone. Weve used the bbcs Reality Check Team a lot during this election. Lets get more from chris morris one of its most experienced correspondents whos been following the campaign. Another issue is the pace of modern media. The fact that you can say live on air, on tv or radio, you can Say Something which isnt really correct, but the fact check it can ta ke correct, but the fact check it can take a few minutes or a few hours its complicated in the conversation is moved on. Then of course, there are things or you have given those exa m ples of are things or you have given those examples of claims or numbers that have been used again and again during the selection and it is notable that in some cases, even though there have been pretty comprehensive take downs by bbc checks and politics ofjust to use them. And the Prime Minister himself is made a particular thing of doubling down on certain things, even when the evidence really does not stack up. Most notably, the issue of him saying that there will be no checks on trade between Great Britain and Northern Ireland after brexit, even though that is precisely what internal government documents and is on brexit Withdrawal Agreement say there will be. You can then look at labour and Jeremy Corbyn, his message that the tories are going to put the nhs up for sale. But look at the documents to prove it, that is not what they say. They do not talk about whole skill privatisation of the nhs. We are atan skill privatisation of the nhs. We are at an age where politicians feel they can get away with things and communicate much more directly with voters tha n communicate much more directly with voters than perhaps they could before and i think voters are smart enough sometimes to work this out. But if we get to a primer politicians do not care whether something is true or not, then that does get pretty corrosive for the state of our democracy. Repeatedly saying things that we know arent true which have been proven to be not true but he keeps saying them and what is fascinating is the significant number of his supporters realise that its not true but do not mind and continue to support him. Finding the degree to which they respond to misinformation by they respond to misinformation by the parties throughout this campaign. The issue of scrutiny also has been a big one in this election. Jeremy presents on radio 2 the most popular station in the country. This is from earlier. Yesterday afternoon, we are told by the Prime Minister that he was pulling out and it was going to happen. That means that millions of radio two listeners notably get the chance to listen to the Prime Minister being scrutinised by his policies, his character and his plans for the future on this programme. And remember borisjohnson said this about being interviewed by the bbcs andrew neil. Lam i am perfectly happy to do that. I am happy to do any interview with andrew neel on the bbc. The interviews did not happen and bearin the interviews did not happen and bear in mind, the bbc interviews for a long standing convention in british democracy during election periods. This week weve had a case study of how technology is ripping apart how we consume information where we source it and how we evaluate it. Now, one person whos guided us through the digital side of this Election Campaign is Marianna Spring from bbc trending. Shes highlighted the importance of facebook pages. Heres are two examples from them. This is one meme promoting tactical voting to defeat Boris Johnson. This is from a brexit page with a verdict on one of the debates. Get brexit undone it says to get people to tactically vote. Marianna spring, bbc trending. How do we assess the influence of the digital experience . We have noticed there certain stages that are reoccurring that keep coming up. 0ne are reoccurring that keep coming up. One of those is to do with the ecosystems in the spheres of influence by these facebook pages and groups. 2017, liberated very Effective Network of pro corbyn groups, however this time around, there have not been quite as, not that the party of the of those been created by other people is not at the same impact and that is because of two things. Firstly, the algorithm is changing and so on facebook, it used to be that posts from all different places would come up from all different places would come up on your news feed in ourfamily and friends of the priority and pages like this do not do as well. Yet these two other ecosystems that are pro brexit and anti brexit pages and groups that share content like this and they create this hyper partisan bubble for everybody has the same opinion in these dont necessarily align themselves to the parties in the same way that the pro Jeremy Corbyn pages do. And this could have an influence on what happens tomorrow. The pro brexit pages, when nigel said he was not going to stay as a Brexit Party Candidate for the poor remain pages have argued about tactical voting we a rty have argued about tactical voting we arty see the consequences of that. The parties and Campaign Groups influence the people running these facebook groups . To the co ordinate question that we do not have any evidence of coordination, they seem to operate as two separate spheres.
