Bills would fix, abolish FOID system

Bob Jones of Outrageous Outdoors in Jerseyville, like many gun store owners, wants to see the state’s Firearm Owners Identification Card, or FOID, system abolished. Long delays, sometimes of more than a year, and the existing national firearms instant check system are among the issues cited.
SPRINGFIELD — Pandemic-exacerbated delays in processing firearm owner and concealed carry license applications are raising frustration and renewing calls by some to abolish or change a broken system.
Among thousands of bills introduced in the Illinois General Assembly, including several hundred specifically dealing with firearms, are a large number that would eliminate or modify the current system.
