Concrete is one of the most widely used materials after water, yet it has a massive carbon footprint – accounting for about 8% of the world’s CO2 emissions. In order to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, annual emissions from concrete need to fall about 20% by the end of the decade. How can we reduce the environmental impact of this ubiquitous building material?
