The Sunshine Coast Council recently finished renewing the low-level fences at the William St entrance to Shelly Beach, and installed the black shade cloth to block out light.
The council approved the project after members of TurtleCare Sunshine Coast put to them the dangers of headlights shining onto the nesting site at night.
"It was well done," Mr Smith said.
"It protects the car lights from shining onto the beach, and the turtles don't get scared."
The shade was a success, and volunteers recorded a loggerhead turtle coming into shore and laying eggs at the site.
However, in a matter of weeks the shade was removed, and replaced with two small "educational" signs on Friday.
