The Stuttgart City Council voted Tuesday night to allow homeowners 30 additional days for repairs to their properties before demolition. (L-R) City attorney Elizabeth Skinner, interim mayor Becky Burgess, and deputy city clerk Alli Holbert.
The Stuttgart City Council last night gave homeowners 30 more days to bring their properties into compliance with state law regarding habitable property in order to escape demolition.
Willie Hayden, owner of 906 E. Cleveland St., and his sister, Joann Collins, owner of 900 E. Cleveland St., addressed the council during Tuesday night’s regularly scheduled meeting. Both properties were condemned and were being prepared for demolition when they asked for more time to make the needed repairs. The council tabled the requests during the April 6 meeting.
