The states caucus will be held on february 22. [applause] donna, we have got to show everyone our shoes. Dorothy, you are not in the iowa anymore. You are in nevada. Ok, that is not what i thought was going to happen this evening. Thank you so much for this award. It is in honor of a lifetime to serve as the Clark County Party chair. Hello, clark county democrats. Wow. How good friend nancy used to talk about, there is Nothing Better than being in a room full of democrats. Spiritnow she is here in with us tonight. She would love an event like this. So, good evening and welcome to the clark county Democratic Partys kick off to caucus. [applause] and thank you so much for joining us to celebrate the thirdinthenation, but the firstinthewest nevada 2020 caucus. The nevada state Democratic Party has worked hard to create the most transparent, expansive, and accessible caucus yes. Process yet. Part of the 2020 nevada caucus is the first early caucus voting anywhere in our country. Nevada leads the way yet again. As many of you know, early caucus voting began today and we have seen higherthanexpected turnout. And that spells trouble for the dangerous person occupying our oval office. [applause] if you cast a president ial preference card today, please raise your hand high. If you voted today, raise your hand high. Thank you. Thank you for participating. Thank you for voting early. That is what Nevada Democrats do. We could not hold this innovative caucus without the help of hundreds and hundreds of volunteers who have spent their Time Training and preparing. Today and the next three days, they are serving in early voting sites. And next saturday, they will be in their precinct caucuses. If you are a volunteer for the 2020 nevada caucus, would you please stand . We want to recognize our hardworking volunteers. [applause] thank you very much. We could not do this without you. We are so grateful for your commitment to our party and to winning back the white house and turning nevada bluer than its ever been before. I want to give a shout out to my friend william. William is the chair of the nevada state Democratic Party. Well, i want to say thank you will, i want to say thank you for your leadership. You have kept us focused and fired up all the way through the 2018 midterms and through all the preparations for the firstinthewest caucus. You and your team have been sure that we have reached out and engaged every corner of our state, every community in our state. We are the first state of true diversity to participate in the democratic primary. [applause] nevada is what america looks like. And so when we cast our vote, we are going to show america what it means to participate in our primary and help select our candidate for president of the United States. I also want to recognize the executive board of the clark county Democratic Party, whom i am privileged to serve with. Will our Board Members please stand and be recognized . [applause] i especially want to thank our second vice chair, judith witmer, who chairs the committee for this amazing gala. Thank you, judith, for organizing an incredible celebratory event for all of us. Excuse me. I want to thank our Nevada Democratic elected officials who are here tonight. Somebody said, anybody who is an elected democrat is in this room and i believe it. We will be recognizing our elected officials throughout the night tonight, so stay tuned. I also want to thank all of our generous sponsors. Without you this evening not be possible. And the funds raised tonight will help clark county throw our convention on april 18 at the rio and help us produce thousands of slate cards that list every democrat running for office in our county, including all of those nonpartisan offices such as our judges. It is vital, and clark county is committed that we encourage our voters to vote blue all the way down the ballot. [applause] we want to win every seat. It is important. And of course, we are excited to hear from our president ial candidates tonight. But now, i have the privilege of introducing a woman who inspires me. Her passion, her fight, lifts us all up and keeps us moving forward. It is my pleasure to introduce my congresswoman from Congressional District 1, congresswoman dina titus. [applause] dina all right. [applause] lets get some energy going in his room. All right. I am dina titus and i have been a democrat since i was born. How about you . I am dina titus, and i have been a liberal sense it wasnt even popular and they didnt call them progressive. I am dina titus, and you are in my district, district one. Welcome and thank you for being here. [applause] it is been rough back there in washington. I can tell you it is much better to be home in nevada with a bunch of democrats. Every day i am reminded, and i said this before and got a little grief for it, but i will say it again, the bastards got to go. [applause] we were out there today attending a lot of events, by some of the early caucus setting, people were lined up out the door. And they say democrats arent enthusiastic for this election . They are very enthusiastic. So nice that when they had to wait two or three hours, they were being polite and buying each other doughnuts, saying, take your time, it is too important not to do this. There is too much at stake to stay home. So i know i am preaching to the choir, but we need you out there. We need you at the site registering voters, helping people turn out. Make this caucus a success. Lets show iowa what it needs to what it means to be nevada thats number one, not number three. [applause] i am back. Now let me introduce a man who has dedicated his life to public service, from serving as a regent for our Nevada University system, to his time on the Clark County Commission including his leadership as a chair of the commission, to being the first democratic governor elected in 20 years. Steve sisolak is dedicated to improving the lives of all nevadans. He signed legislation to provide early access to voting, and to protect voting rights. He further ensured a womans right to choose and provided for collective bargaining for our state employees. Please give a welcome to our governor, governor steve sisolak. [applause] gov. Sisolak thank you. [applause] good evening, democrats. We have got to live in this this party upven just a little bit, folks. Before i get into my remarks, i will ask you to join me in thanking the tremendous culinary staff we have here who are serving our food today. [applause] nobody does it better than culinary 226, so thank you all for doing that and i want to give a shout out, something that is extremely important to my wife, the first lady who is here with me in this evening. Do we have the best first lady in the country or what . [applause] our educators. If you are an educator, i want you to stand up and be acknowledged. [applause] thank you so much. [applause] thank you so much. We are so proud of everything of what you do every single day. We appreciate what you do for our kids in our classrooms. Thank you for being here this evening and helping us celebrate the kickoff of caucus 2020, which has been a tremendous kickoff. We had early voting started today. My wife and i went to the center and cast our votes. We were two of almost 12,000 people that voted by 5 00 today. The turnout has been tremendous. As congresswoman titus said, the lines are long, you make a few new friends while you are waiting. Everybody is getting along and it is a great atmosphere. But we have an Incredible Group of volunteers. It has just been amazing. Alana to acknowledge shelby, who has worked very hard to pull this caucus together. Lets give them a round of applause. [applause] we have so many volunteers working so hard every single day, and it is making a tremendous difference. It is hard to believe that the november general election is 262 days away. That is just 37 weeks. We have a lot of work to do because we are going to put a new man or woman in the white house come november [applause] we are one week in nevada from our firstinthewest caucus. Early voting started today. We have three more days to cast your preferences and i encourage everyone to get out and participate. I want to thank those organizers and volunteers who have dedicated countless hours to knocking on doors, making phone calls and supporting democrats. Ultimately, that is what it is all about, ensuring that on inauguration day, it is a democrat that is being sworn into the white house. A democrat. [applause] and to the nevada state Democratic Party, thank you. I know everyone there has been working around the clock to make sure we have a successful caucus. It is easy to point fingers, and we know there is a lot of fingerpointing, but it is not easy to just do the work every day, and they do, they get out, they strap on their boots, go to work, and they get it done, and we have a successful caucus. Are going to have three more successful days. Over the course of this primary, with our candidates, differences have obviously emerged. They have expressed their vision for our country. Differences make us stronger as a party and ready to fight come november. It is important to remember differences are not have to equal division. We are going to be united going into november. [applause] we cannot afford to have fractures, we need to stay united. As all of you know, nevada is the First Western state and the most diverse state in the country thus far to have their voices heard. I ask you to look around this room. Look to your left, look to your right, that is what nevada looks like. That is what this country looks like. [applause] it is so important that your voices are heard as you move we move forward in this process. There is no denying that doing well in november doing well in nevada is a clear trend to doing well in november. As democrats, we have so much to be proud of in the state of nevada. We have made tremendous progress on issues that are important to democrats. Increasing our renewable standard by 50 in 2020 thanks to our legislature, makes a difference. We have expanded access to the ballot box across the state and implemented automatic Voter Registration so everybody has the right to vote [applause] we have increased the minimum wage, and i am so proud that we have finally given our hardworking teachers a raise that they have deserved. [applause] yes [applause] we created the Patient Protection commission, which has the charge not just doing another study, but is coming back with specific recommendations for me and the legislature to move into the next legislative session and get a handle on the spiraling cost of health care and Prescription Drugs. [applause] i would not be standing here before you as the first democratic governor in 20 years without your help. You knocked on the doors, you made the phone calls, you pounded the signs and talked to your neighbors, and it is because of you i am the governor, and because of you have the first femalemajority legislature in the u. S. Of United States of america. [applause] before we get into this you are going to hear the candidates speak here i have got some advice for the candidates. Three things i want to pass on. You can pull out a pencil and take a couple of notes. Nevada is not, will not, and will never be the Nuclear Waste dump in this country. [applause] it is not going to happen. We need a Firm Commitment from every candidate that that is not going to happen under their watch. Second, nevada is a strong union damn proud ofre the fact that we are a strong union state. Unions built this state and continue to build this state, and we are proud of the working men and women who go to work every single day, taking care of our communities. [applause] and third and finally, diversity is what we are about in nevada. Diversity makes as stronger, diversity makes us smarter, and diversity makes us better. We reflect the population in this country. That is why nevada is so important. And we are proud of the diversity we bring forward. [applause] the pioneer spirit can only be found deep in the heart of the golden west, where we do what no one else has done, where we dream where no one else has dreamt, and he accomplish those dreams by working together. Now, get out there. Those of you who havent voted, you have got three days to vote early before the caucus next saturday. Get out there early and vote. And to the volunteers and staff at the county democratic parties and the state party, we cannot begin to thank you enough for how hard you are working. You are putting in the hours and you are making a difference in the lives of our citizens and in the nominee that is going to be our candidate for president , and who will ultimately become the next president of the United States of america [applause] thats how we win. That is how we organize. When we vote, we win. We vote, we win. Thank you very much. It is the honor of my lifetime to serve as your governor. God bless you all and have a great evening. Thank you nevada [applause] thank you. Give it up for the governor, everybody [applause] hi. My name is jason harris. I am a Las Vegasbased comedian and i will be emceeing tonight. But right now i know you want to hear from the candidates, am i right . Lets get the noise going, please. Let us welcome our first candidate, senator Bernie Sanders [cheers and applause] [chanting] sen. Sanders thank you. I would like to thank the clark county Democratic Party [shouting] we love you sen. Sanders thank you, i love you too let me thank the clark county Democratic Party for turning for sendingue and us excellent United States two senators to the senate. [applause] i was delighted to be here in 2018 to campaign for your great senator jacky rosen, and to help her when and i look forward to returning to help elect more members of congress and state officials here in nevada. I am also delighted to be in the home state of my good friend harry reid. [applause] and harry, i believe, will go down in history as one of the great Democratic Leaders of the United States senate. Harry, thank you very much for all that you do. [applause] ive got a few minutes, and i want to make just a couple of points. First, while there is in a hotly contested democratic nomination process, i am absolutely confident that no matter who the winner is needless to say, i hope it is me. [applause] but no matter who the winner will be, i have absolute confidence that we are all going to unite behind that candidate and defeat the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country. [cheers and applause] we all understand i know we are supporting different candidates here, but we all understand that we cannot continue to have in office a president who is a pathological liar, who is running a corrupt administration, who has contempt for the constitution and the rule of law, and who is undermining american democracy. Donald trump, you are going to be a oneterm president. You are out of here. [applause] now, i am sure that all of my friends who are going to speak to you tonight are going to tell you why they think they are the strongest candidate to defeat trump, so let me start off by telling you why i think i am the strongest candidate to defeat trump. And that is, in order to win in november, we are going to need a multigenerational, multiracial campaign of energy and excitement that creates the highest voter turnout in american history. That is a campaign that brings out millions of nontraditional voters of all races, including those who have given up on the political process, and younger people who have never voted. And that is what our campaign is about. And the recent caucus in iowa, where we won the popular vote by 6000 votes, entrance polls suggested that voter turnout with people under 29 was higher than in 2016. 33 higher than in 2016. That is what we are going to have to do in november. In the New Hampshire primary, our campaign won almost every workingclass community in that state, which is something we also are going to have to do in november. We are going to have to bring the working class of this country back into the Democratic Party. [applause] in order to win in november, we are going to have to have strong support from the africanamerican community, the latino community, the asian community, and the native american community. We cannot take these communities for granted anymore, in my campaign is successfully working to our and their support every single day. [applause] now, i have, and some of you know, been criticized by the corporate elites and the political establishment for bringing forth an agenda that they think is too radical and too extreme. I respectfully disagree. The agenda that we are bringing forth is exactly the agenda the working class of this country want. [applause] i am proud that my proposal for a 15 an hour minimum wage has already passed in seven states as well as the u. S. House of representatives. [applause] i am proud that states and communities all over this country are already moving forward to make public colleges and universities tuitionfree and support for counseling all student debt is extremely popular. Canceling all student debt is extremely popular. [applause] and i am very proud that just today, in a major article in lancet, one of the most influential medical journals in the world, of the case was made for why we must move toward medicare for all, singlepayer. The article states, and i quote, taking into account both the cost of coverage expansion and the savings that would be achieved through the medicare for all act, we calculate that a singlepayer universal Health Care System is likely to lead to a 13 savings in National Healthcare expenditure equivalent to more than 450 billion a year. In addition, the article points out that medicare for all will save some 60,000 lives a year, people who die because they dont get to a doctor because of no insurance. [applause] in other words, under medicare for all, we provide comprehensive health care to every man, woman, and child and save hundreds of billions of dollars by eliminating the profiteering and greed of the health care industry. In nevada and all over this country, there is growing concern about Climate Change. And i am proud to have introduced the most comprehensive Climate Change proposal ever brought forth by any candidate for president. [applause] the simple truth is that if we love our kids, our grand children and future generations, we must tell the fossil fuel industry that their shortterm profits are not more important than the future of this planet. And under the Green New Deal s that we have introduced, we are going to create up to 20 million goodpaying union jobs as we transform our Energy System away from fossil fuel to Energy Efficiency and sustainable energies. And let me also say about the current campaign, that regardless of how much money a multibillionaire candidate is willing to spend on his election, we will not create the energy and excitement we need to defeat donald trump if that candidate pursued, advocated for and enacted racist policies like stop and frisk [applause] which forced communities of color in his city to live in fear. We will not defeat donald trump with a candidate who, in 2015, stated, and i quote, i for example im not in favor, have never been in favor of raising the minimum wage. We will not defeat donald trump with a candidate who opposed modest proposals during Barack Obamas presidency to raise taxes on the wealthy while advocating for cuts to medicare and social security. We will not defeat donald trump with a candidate who, instead of holding the crooks on wall street accountable, blamed the end of racist policies such as redlining for the financial crisis. [applause] the simple truth is that mayor bloomberg, with all his money, will not create the kind of excitement and energy we need to have the voter turnout we must have to defeat donald trump [applause] once again, let me thank all of you for the enormously important work you are doing in this 2020 election, the most consequential election in the modern history of our country. Let us go forward to beat donald trump. Let us go forward transform our country. Thank you very much. [applause] [cheers and applause] that is bernie, everybody i love the energy in this room. Are we ready for our next speaker now . Our next candidate come on bring that energy up. Please give it up for tom stier tom steyer [applause] hello you guys hello nevada let me say this, today was a fantastic first day of caucus voting, nevada. Almost 12,000 votes. And let me say, i have been coming to nevada since the summer of 1976 when i came here to work for 100 a month as a ranch hand in gardnerville, nevada. Worst pay i have ever had in my whole life, and the most fun. Let me say this. I know that people think of me as a rich person, but that is not how i think about myself at all. My mother was a teacher in the new york public schools. And when she retired as a teacher, she went and taught prisoners in the broken house of detention. My father was the first generation in his family to go to college. He graduated from college at 18. My grandfather was a plumber. My father went to law school, left the war to go to the navy in world war ii, because my parents were depressionera, world war ii babies who thought, you show up when the nation called. After the war, he prosecuted the nazi war criminals at the nuremberg trials. And let me say, what he had to say about those criminals, what he told my brothers and me growing up is, when you see something deeply wrong at the heart of your society, it is your responsibility to show up and fight it. That is what they call the need to impeach movement. When you see something wrong in america at 1600 pennsylvania avenue, you show up and fight it. Over 8. 5 million americans signed that petition and drug washington into the idea that there is something that is right and wrong today, not just a political advantage. I started a business and build t it into a multibillion Dollar International business and i walked away from it. I took a pledge to give most of my money to good causes while i am alive. And i have spent over 10 years putting together coalitions of americans to fight unchecked corporate power. Let me say this, we have never lost. They are not that smart. I want to go to washington to take on those same corporations who fought our government, and get back to government of, by and for the people of the United States. I started one of the biggest grassroots organizations in the United States, nextgen america. We have been in nevada for our seventh or eighth year. Nextgen is on 10 campuses. It partners with labor unions in nevada. In 2016, we knocked on 500,000 doors in nevada. Nevada came through in 2016, if you will remember. We knocked on over 500,000 doors in nevada in 2018. Ue ina went totally bl 2018 if youll remember. What i hope to do with you is a template for the whole of the United States of america, strong unions, grassroots organizing, diversity, democratic governor, two democratic u. S. Senators, Democratic State senate and Democratic State legislature. That is what i call success. [applause] so let me say this, what that means is, if we do that this year in 2020, then we get what everybody in this room once, which is Affordable Health care as a constitutional right for every american. [applause] it is quality Public Education starting with universal preschool as a constitutional right for every american. [applause] it is a living wage. 7. 25 is an insult to working americans. Nevada has raised the minimum wage. I have been fighting for 15 since 2012, going out to people to strike at mcdonalds. But let me say this, and people have quoted me a fair wage today is 22 an hour. There has been a 40year war on working people starting with the breaking the air Traffic Controllers union. We have to fight back. I have been with unions in every single political fight of my life. First partner, best partner, last partner. [applause] i have fought for positions against Oil Companies and beat them, against Tobacco Companies who had won 17 times in a row and beat them, i pushed question 6 in 2018 in nevada 50 clean energy by 2030. I have done that around the country. We have never lost to these corporations. They are not that smart. We are going to have to look, i believe clean air and clean water are a constitutional right for every american. I am the only person in this race who will say that climate is my number one priority. And i say it knowing that i will start with environmental justice, with cleaning up the air and water in the black and brown communities where we concentrate our poison, and we will rebuild this country and create over 4. 5 million Good Union Jobs every single year for as far as the eye can see. [applause] those are some of the things that we are fighting for. But what we have to remember is, number one job, beat donald trump. We know what he is running on, because he tells us. He basically has told the American People you know i am a criminal. You know i despise 80 of you. You know i am a man of low morals. But you have to vote for me because i am good on the economy. And here is what i say, baloney that is not true. I spend 20 years building a i spent 30 years building a business where i had to understand what it took to create growth, prosperity, and jobs. I can take on mr. Trump. And every time he says the economy is growing say, yeah, but all the money is going to rich people. Every time he says there is no unemployment, i can say, yeah, but you cant live on those jobs. 7. 25 is an insult to working people. Every time he says the stock market is going up, i can say, it is. You gave those companies a gigantic tax break, but most people dont own stocks. Thats what i call the maralago economy. Its great for the people at the maralago country club, but its no good for working people across the United States of america. [cheers and applause] what i am talking about is calling him out on the stage and making him look like a liar that he is. But also, i am talking about 4. 5 Million Union jobs every year, the biggest work program in american history. I am talking about a 10 tax cut for every single american who makes less than 250,000, and i am talking about a minimum wage at least double what we have right now. Talking about an economy that actually works for the American People. So first of all, we have to beat him on the economy, and second of all, we have to do what nevada has proved democrats can do, which is show up. This is going to be a grassroots turnout election where it is going to be critical. We know they will show up. They always show up. We can stop worrying. They show up. The only question is, are we showing up . That question is going to be answered. We need a candidate who can pull together this party. That is why nevada is so critical. This is the first diverse state. This state reflects the wonderful diversity of america and the incredible diversity of the Democratic Party. That is why this is such an important test, who are your votes are so critical and so important, because this is the time we will find out who the candidates are really can pull together this party across racial lines, across ethnic lines, across geographic lines, and across philosophies. So actually, nevada is going to be the first step to winning the white house in november of 2020. This state is the test. [cheers and applause] and the last thing i want to say is this, i know the job is to win in november 20. I know the job is to get grassroots turnout, and i have done that across the country and here in nevada. I am not promising to do it. The biggest Voter Registration in 2018. I am not promising i will kick his ass on the economy, i can kick his ass on the economy, and i will do it. That is my promise to you. I will take on corporations and not lose. I will restore the rights to health care, a living wage, education, clean air and clean water, and i will kick Donald Trumps ass on the debate stage. In september and october of 2020. That is my solemn vow. Thank you nevada. It is wonderful to be back here with you. Have a great night. [cheers and applause] tom steyer, everybody i love the energy in this room. Should we keep it going . Are you ready to hear from the next candidate. Please welcome to the stage senator Elizabeth Warren [cheers and applause] sen. Warren hello clark county democrats [applause] so ive got good news and bad news. Bad news is that after selfies, i picked up somebodys cold. Good news is, nevertheless, she persists [applause] i am on this stage tonight because i am a fighter. You bet. I come by it naturally. After my daddy had a heart attack, my family lost the car and was on the edge of losing our house when i watched my mother fight back to save our family. I am here tonight because of all the people who have run for Public Office that you will hear from tonight. I am one who has been a politician, unelected official an elected official for the shortest period of time. I spent my life as a teacher and working on one central issue you bet, lets hear it for our teachers. [cheers and applause] and working on one central issue, and that is what is happening to working families in america. Why is americas middle class being hollowed out . Why is it that our working people find the path today so much rockier and so much steeper. And for people of color, even rockier and even steeper . I have worked on this issue putting much all my grownup life, and starting in the late 1990s i started ringing the alarm bells about the coming crash, about banks that were taking advantage of families over mortgages, over credit cards. And you know what i discovered, you can ring all the alarm bells you want, but when peoples ears are stuffed with money, they dont hear them. [applause] so i stayed in this fight, and in the crash of 2008, harry reid asked me to come to washington to bring a little accountability to the bank bailout. That started my path. After that, when i saw the crash and saw how many millions of people lost their homes, lost their savings, lost their jobs, i was determined that this would never happen again in america. So i got in that fight, and i had an idea for a Consumer Agency to make sure that big banks never have the chance again to cheat people on mortgages and credit cards and payday loans and student loans. Now, i had this idea i was not an elected official, but i went to washington and then knocked on doors. Democrat, republican, i didnt care, because i was out there fighting for working families. And here is what i discovered, people heard and they listened to the idea and they said two things to me. The first one, huh that is actually a good idea. It could actually make a difference. The second one was dont even try. You will be up against big wall street, big donors, up against all the republicans, and you will be up against half the democrats. Youll never get it done. I get it. Big structural change is hard. But it was the right thing to do. So i got in the fight, and i got allies in this fight. The first groups to come in with the unions, who got into the fight. The naacp that got into the fight. Consumers union that got into the fight. Aarp that got into the fight. And in 2010, president barack obama signed that agency into law. [cheers and applause] that is how we win. And we can make government work for the people. We just have to be willing to do it. So heres how i see this. We have now had three years of donald trump, and people across this country are afraid. Many people are afraid. They are afraid for their families, afraid for their neighbors, afraid for children locked up at our borders. They are afraid for children in lockdown in our public schools. They are afraid for women, for people of color, for lgbtq americans, for trans people, all of whose rights will be up for grabs in the u. S. Supreme court. They are afraid for our nation and for our planet. So this is the question that comes to you, Nevada Democrats, what do we do . The danger is real. Our democracy hangs in the balance. We can get timid. We can back up, or we can get in the fight. Me, i am in the fight. [applause] i am in the fight. Because fighting is an act of patriotism [applause] we fought against a king to build this country. We fought against the scourge of slavery to protect this union. We fought against a Great Depression to rebuild our economy, and we fought against the rise of fascism to protect our democracy. America is at its best when we see a problem and we fight back [applause] this is no time for small ideas. This is no time to nibble around the edges of the problems that our country faces. This is the time to meet these challenges head on, to address these problems with big, structural change, and that is why i am here. I am not in this campaign because i have a bunch of consultants who told me the right things to say. You can tell that. I am not in this campaign to put forward a bunch of proposals that have been carefully designed not to offend big donors. I am in this campaign to fight from a lifetime of fighting for working people. I am in this campaign to fight from the heart, because i believe that 2020 is our moment in history. I believe in you, and i believe in the america we can build together. An america in which every person has value. An america in which every child is worth investing in. An america where people, not money, is the most important part of our democracy. [applause] and if you believe that that america is possible, and you think that america is worth fighting for, then i am asking you, get in this fight. Join me in this fight. Because 2020 is our moment in history. It will not come this way again. 2020 is our moment to choose hope over fear. To choose courage. 2020 is our moment to dream big, fight hard and win. Thank you clark county [cheers and applause] lets hear it for Elizabeth Warren, everybody come on [applause] keep that energy going for me. Are you ready for your next candidate . Please welcome to the stage, Vice President joe biden [cheers and applause] [chanting joe ] [applause] mr. Biden youve got a tremendous governor thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Youve got a tremendous governor and two great women senators, campaigned with. I love jacky rosen and i love kathy cortez masto. Dina titus, thank you for all you have done for me. [applause] and steve, youre something else. I want to take you on the road with me. We have been getting out the early vote for caucus. No matter who you vote for, you should vote. And donna west, thank you so much. And the workers, and the workers who put this on, you are doing a great job. You couldnt do any of this without you. And if i might add, the countrys first majorityfemale legislature [cheers and applause] the race for the nomination of president of the United States or the nomination for that office, there can be no democratic nominee, none, without the voice of latinos and africanamericans being heard and heard loudly. [indiscernible] [applause] nevada is a state that looks like america. This is your turn now to decide who you want to be the leader of your party and the next president of the United States. And i am here to audition. [applause] but theres another reason. Another reason i am here, the carnage in our streets, and the consequences of the n. R. A. And gun manufacturers. Las vegas has endured the worst mass shooting in american history. One man with a assault weapons and magazines holding 100 rounds of ammunition ended the lives and scarred the families and the entire lives of decent, honest people. We must never forget that. I will never forget it. And i will never forget the anguish and the pain of all those families, and i met virtually all of them up in connecticut, in newtown, listened to their cries, just having lost a child in the most horrendous, horrendous, godawful thing that i have seen in a long time. I sat with them, heard their stories of anguish. Ill never forget their voice, and sometimes, cracking, of Young Students who survived the parkland shooting. Who came to washington to protest. When i met with them, telling me of their fears. Some of them, about how they still have nightmares. As a matter of fact, yesterday, a man who has become a friend out of a mutual tragedy i lost two children, he lost a child, mine not to gun violence, he is one of the leaders in parkland. His name is fred guttenberg. I called him yesterday because the second anniversary of the death of his daughter, the second anniversary. We cannot forget what happened. He lost his daughter, and i know i made a promise to myself, i made a promise to fred, and to my friend, mark braden, in newtown, that i will not rest until they are able to sue the gun manufacturers who made the assault weapons. [applause] [chanting joe ] fmr. Vice pres. Biden it is a promise i made, and it is a promise i will keep. I will not rest until we get assault weapons off the street, highcapacity magazines outlawed and off our streets, and finally, finally, we take on the gunmen of fractures for the carnage they have caused. The carnage they are responsible for accounts for tens of thousands of lives i mean it, think of not just of not just the mass shootings, there is a mass shooting on our streets every day in neighborhoods of color and poor neighborhoods. Everyday, and we heard you talk about it anymore. I believe the carnage that they are responsible for, and the gun violence that is so rampant, i think they are tearing apart and ripping the soul out of this country. We have a president who is owned by the n. R. A. , a president who is owned by the gun manufacturers. Guess what, gunmen fracturing is the only industry in america that is exempt from being able to be sued, the only one. And they were given that exception in 2005. Exemption in 2005. Some of the people running for office voted for that exemption. Ladies and gentlemen, that a that immunity was granted, and it is a horrible decision. Look, imagine if i said to you, we are going to vote to give the Tobacco Industry immunity, or the drug industry immunity, or the oil industry immunity, you would all think it was horrible. But we gave immunity to gunman fractures. Look at what they have done and what they are responsible for. It would be unthinkable if we give anyone else that. I promise you, president , not president , as i have a breath in me, i will do everything i can to grow after those gun manufacturers. [cheers and applause] when i am president , i will take them on and allow those parents who are trying now to sue for the pain and mayhem they have caused. You know, i am the only one who has taken on the n. R. A. Nationally and beaten them three times, and i will beat them again. I got the brady bill passed, which provided for background checks so that whackos cant own those weapons. Oh, they are, by the way. Sorry. And working with dianne feinstein, i was able to ban assault weapons and magazines that had more than 10 rounds in them for 10 years, until we elected bush and he took them away. We will get it reinstated, i promise you. I promise you. And that is not the only important difference in this race. Health care. Health care is a right. Health care is not a privilege. I believe the next president , as president , we have to defend obamacare, not discredit obamacare. Not get rid of obamacare. I was proud to serve as baracks Vice President. Nevermore proud than the day we passed obamacare. And trump is trying to destroy it, try to get rid of it in court. And some democrats want to get rid of it. I will not let that happen. I will not let that happen. It is not going to happen. Obamacare is the reason we have protection for preexisting conditions. Today on the line, on the rope line, and yesterday, a woman came up to me, started crying and said, thank you, you saved my life. I said, no, no. She said, no, i had breast cancer, a preexisting condition. After obamacare was passed, it came back and i was able to have insurance. And it saved my life. [applause] a day before, separately, a man told me of his daughter who had a childhood cancer, rare cancer, before obamacare. After obamacare passed, it came back. He was able to get the treatment she needed and he said it saved her life. Folks, we cannot jettison this. We cannot start over. I cant imagine i cant imagine. If i asked many of you to raise your hands if you lost a child, a son or daughter to a terminal disease, or a loved one, most of you probably know somebody who did. I cant imagine before obamacare. I cant imagine when my son, beau, a war hero, coming back from iraq with a bronze star, before contracting stage for glioblastoma. I watched him lay in bed for the last 18 months that he lived in pain. I couldnt imagine what it would have been like. For them to come in and say, sorry, you have outrun your coverage. Suffer in peace. We cannot allow that to happen ever again. [cheers and applause] [chanting joe ] obamacare lifted the hopes of so many people, because you have a governor who extended making sure that medicare is extended. To 400,000ce of mind nevadans and over 50,000 children. It limits surprise billing. Withan builds on obamacare a public option. Most importantly, it lets you keep your private insurance if you want to. [applause] they negotiated, they gave up pay raises to get one of the best Health Care Plans in the country. No one should be able to tell them they can no longer have that plan. Nobody for is required in medicare all. Willl be dammed if we erase the unions efforts and say they start over again. Folks, my plan will give every american a choice, a choice without raising their taxes on the middle class. Can important of all, i actually get my plan passed. I am the only one who has gotten one passed. Folks, Speaker Pelosi and the majority of democrats dont like the medicare for all plan. You didnt. How in gods name do you expect to pass it . Trillion. Ver 30 how do you pay for it . Trump, donald trump is continuing to fan the flames of division and hate in this country. It has to stop. It has to stop. President matter. The president can appeal to the best in us. To our better angels. The president can also appeal to the worst in us, tear us apart. Our children are listening to this mans language, behavior and lack of any integrity as he talks. Bullying, his attacks on immigrants, his degrading language, why would we expect. Nything else why . Why, why else . Asn you have donald trump president , everyone knows who donald trump is. We have to let them know who we are. As i have been saying for well over a year, we choose hope over fear. We have been saying this over a year. We choose unity over division. We have chosen science over fiction. We choose compassion over cruelty. Maybe most importantly, we choose truth overlies. Overlies. We are the United States of america. There is not a damn thing we cannot do if we do it together. Lets get up and take this country back, now. God bless you all and may god protect our troops. Take it back cheering joe] joe biden [cheers and applause] lets hear the next candidate are you ready for the next candidate . Senatorive it up for Amy Klobuchar thank you thank you clark county, thank you, donna west. I am so proud of what you have done here, in nevada. You gave us the incredible harry reid. That was not enough, no. You decided you would send not one but two women to the u. S. Senate. Incredibleave us an congressional delegation. If that was not enough, you decided to give the country and women majority legislature. That is something [cheers and applause] today, with your great government and legislature, nevada is leading the way on voting rights. On gun safety, and yes, standing up for our union. We all know one thing. When unions are strong, our economy is strong. When unions are strong, america is strong. I think we can learn a little bit from nevada. I am from the midwest. I am looking at these results in nevada. I came up with the idea with states like michigan and wisconsin, pennsylvania, iowa and ohio, we need to do it the nevada way. Build awed a beautiful blue wall around those states and make donald trump pay for it. Started my know, i campaign in the middle of a minnesota lizard. A lot of people i thought i would not make it through the streets. They thought i would not make it through the summer. They thought i would not make it to the debates. I have made it to the bates to the debates. For look at the supporters all of these tremendous candidates, what unites us as a party, no matter who you are supporting is bigger than what divides us. We know that we know that. And we also know this. Yes, it is an economic check on this president. There is not shared prosperity. It is also a decency check. Patriotism check. What unites our fired up democratic base, as well as our independents and moderate republicans that will join us, what unites us is this. The heart of america is so much bigger than the heart of this guy in the white house. We know that. And we also note that the rule of all cannot tolerate four more years of a president that thinks he is above us. And we know that our collective sense of decency cannot tolerate four more years of a president that does not care about it. And we know that the American Dream cannot tolerate four more years of a president who thinks lives it. Ose who what unites us is this. Andup in mystic optimisti pharma, to bring those Prescription Drug prices down. Taking on the big interest in washington, and making sure that we are looking out for regular people. But, to do any of this, to take on Climate Change, to make sure we pass and stop the meanspirited rhetoric and pass immigration reform, to do any of this, we know that we need to win big. That we just cannot eke out a victory at 4 00 in the morning. That we also have to win, up and down the ticket. We have to win in those senate races in arizona, and in colorado. If you want to get all of the great things done that you have heard about, tonight, we need to send Mitch Mcconnell packing. [cheers and applause] so, what do we do to get there . First of all, we know that we have got this president that continues to think he can just distract everyone. We dont have to go down every rabbit hole with him. When i announced in the middle of that blizzard, he made fun of me and called me snow woman for talking about Climate Change. I said the science is on my side and i would like to see how your hair would fare in a blizzard. [applause] onmuch of this is taking him and being nimble in the moment and being able to do it. I think you know my background. This is it. I cannot inc. Of a better comparison i cannot think of , mytter comparison with his background, my grandfather was an iron or minor. He worked 1500 feet underground in minnesota. He wanted to be in the navy but he had to quit because he had nine brothers and sisters and his parents died. The youngest went to an orphanage in dilute and he vowed he would get her and he got a car and he brought her back, two years later. They had two kids, my grandmother and grandfather. My dad and his brother. They saved money in a coffee can in a basement to send my dad to a two Year Community college. My dad went from there to graduate from the university of minnesota. He became a sports writer. He wrote a book that is relevant today that he wrote in the early 80s. It is called will the vikings ever win the super bowl . I was saying that because i saw the stadium out there. My mom, she grew up in milwaukee. Because to minnesota she had strong they had strong teachers unions. She taught second grade until she was 70 years old. I stand on the shoulders of immigrants. My grandparents on my moms side were immigrants. When my grandpa came to ellis island, they told him there was a quota on swiss immigrants. He said i will go to canada. He went to canada for one week and then he came through to michigan and wisconsin and he lived as an unregistered alien for most of his life. Hen he finally registered, applied for citizenship and they found out what he did. And they said it was ok. I still have that picture of him getting citizenship before we went into world war ii, with a little bowtie on. Think about what happened what would happen to him today, with this administration. That is what drives me to pass comprehensive immigration reform. I stand before you today, as the granddaughter of an iron or minor. Andhe daughter of a teacher newspaperman. As the first woman elected to the u. S. Senate in the state of minnesota and i candidate for the president of the United States a candidate for the president of the United States that is because we live in a country of shared dreams. No matter where you come from or who you know, or the color of your skin, or how much money you have, or where you worship, or who you love, you can make it in the United States of america. Impeachment trial, which did not turn out as i thought it should, because a lot of people were not courageous, during that impeachment trial, i had a lot of time to think. I thought about this president and how he puts his private interests in front of the public interests every single day and his partisan interests in front of our country and patriotism. I thought about the story of Franklin Delano roosevelt, who was beloved in our country. He got us through a hard time. When he died, they put his body on a train and the train went from georgia to washington, d. C. People would stand on the Railroad Tracks show their respect. The old story goes that this one guy was sobbing by the tracks, regular guy, had his hat on his chest. This reporter says to him, sir, do you mind me asking, did you know president roosevelt . Did you know the president . And the guy says no. I did not know the president. But, he knew me. Me. New that is what is missing with this president. He cannot put himself in the shoes of the people of nevada, the hardworking people, the culinary workers. Of the ranchers, of the people who work every single day to by. Ped get their family he puts himself first. I promise this. I will restore that sacred trust between the president and the people of this country. Areuse, if you if you having trouble figuring out how you are going to stretch your paycheck to pay for your rent or your mortgage, i know you and i will fight for you. If you cant figure out if you are going to pay for your childcare for your kids or your longterm care for your parents, i know you and i will fight for you. If you cant figure out if you will fill your prescription for insulin or your refrigerator with food, i know you and i will fight for you. This campaign is like no other. This is our nations moment. We cannot afford to shut people out, Nevada Democrats. We have to bring people with us. That is what i do. I have one every race, every place, every time, all the way down to fourth grade. A lot of people boast in these campaigns so i thought i would say that. All the way down to fourth grade. In the reddest of Congressional Districts, i have bachmanns district every single time. I dont have the biggest bank account, i am not the tallest person. I was noticing that when the president and mayor bloomberg were going back and forth on twitter and the president accused him of being 54, he said i am taller than that. I am the only candidate who is truly 54 on this stage. I dont have the loudest voice, havehat i do have, as you seen from me getting stepbystep to this, i have great. The grit of getting through a minnesota blizzard, the grit of having a nonperfect life and growing up with a dagger who struggled dad who struggled with alcoholism. Kicked out getting of the hospital in 24 hours and passing one of the first loss in the country guaranteeing new moms a 48 hospital 40 hour hospital stay. I bring grit. I hope you will join our campaign. I want us to remember as we go into this incredible week of voting that what unites us, no matter what where we are right now, will be bigger than what divides us and that is how we will do the defeat donald trump you, Nevada Democrats [cheers and applause] [cheers] one more time for the 54 senator Amy Klobuchar, everybody. All right, guys. Are we ready to hear from our last candidate of the evening . Ready to hear from the last candidate . The stage, ome to mayor pete [cheers and applause] hello, clark county. I am so honored to be with so many nevada leaders in a state that knows there is no such thing as a permanently red state or county or precinct. Thank you for making sure that. E turn this state blue so honored to be with the governor. Thank you for sending two extraordinary senators to washington to make good decisions and represent us well. Are a phenomenal congressional delegation. The message that you have sent from coasttocoast that people can come together and get commonsense reforms done, at a time where some are wondering if politics has anything to tell them at all. You will never be caught treating the presidency like it is the only office that matters. Thank you for ensuring that we went up and down the ticket for democrats that share our values. [applause] thank you for the chance to join you tonight, with so much on the line, just one week out from the Historic Nevada caucuses. That people in nevada are taking your responsibility, your influence, your power that fell on the scale, so seriously. I am here, one more time, to eye to caucuse for me. It is an image of a moment that is coming in our future that i want you to visualize in as much detail as you can. It is the first time the sun comes up over the mountains and the deserts of nevada and donald trump no longer the president of the United States. [applause] we have a responsibility to bring about that day sooner, rather than later. We are ready to put the chaos behind us. We are ready to put the corruption behind us. Are you ready to put the tweets behind us . This is our chance. This is our only chance Mitch Mcconnells gop may have dominated the senate that was the jury, last week. We are the jury and the verdict is up to us on this president and the senators who protect him. This is our chance and we had better get it right. We had better put forward a nominee who was prepared to go toto with this president in rural, suburban and urban communities. Someone who is ready to challenge his president on his own terms. Wouldnt it be like to see him have to explain his Economic Policy senate next to a mayor from the industrial mayor from the industrial west. And demand that we move toward ache and economy were one job is enough. Would you like to see a president who likes to cloak himself in religion . Have to compete with somebody who is ready to assert that this country wants to people of every religion and no religion equally and someone not afraid to call out fellow believers and insist that god does not launch a Political Party in the United States of america. Wouldnt you like to see a president who likes to talk throw himself military police parades, have to stand himself on that debate stage and synnex toy war veteran who has educate them that traumatic brain injuries can be a lot more serious than brain bone spurs. It is time told as president accountable. This movement is not just who we are against. It is about what we are for. As a powerful american majority come together, not just fellow diehard democrats, but independents and a lot of what i like to call future former republicans who are welcome to stand at our side and make sure they turn the page before it is too late. Some say, why would a mayor run for president . You have been simulated decades of washington establishment experience. I say that is the point. This is our only chance to bring new thinking to washington and flesh out what this president has brought with him before it is too late. Going up against the most disruptive president history by falling back on the familiar. We have to tell everybody to be at our side. You do not have to choose between one course falling on our hearts and the other on our heads. We do not have to choose between a revolution and the status quo. We can call every american in for a Better Future. We already have a mint an rican majority consisting that is insisting that instead of corporations paying zero on billions of dollars in taxes, we will hold them accountable to pay their fair share, lift up workers, standing with unions and organized labor in this country. We already have an american majority that recognizes that freedom includes freedom from government telling women what to do with their bodies. We already have a powerful american majority that understands that supporting our troops is more than about a bumper sticker. It is about putting an end to endless war and making sure they never get sent into one that could have been avoided. There is a powerful american majority right now demanding that we take action in our time to make this a country where your race has no bearing on your health, your wealth, your Life Expectancy or your experience with law enforcement. We must make that a reality now. Right now, the American People are ready for meaningful immigration reform. [speaking spanish] and the American People already stand with those who educate our next generation and are insisting that the next secretary of education be someone who actually believes in Public Education and who backs up our educators. This is what we believe in as a country. So, we better deliver. And i am meeting voters across this country but even americans not yet old enough to vote who remind us that we cannot wait to get something done. A 10yearold came to one of my events and raised his hand asking about Prescription Drug affordability. Not because he is an emerging Health Care Policy buff but he is wondering about his ability to purchase insulin. That should not be his problem and he cannot wait for us to act and make sure it there is no such thing as an unaffordable prescription and the United States of america. A 13yearold who told me that she asked for a kevlar Bulletproof Backpack for christmas. I did not know there was such a thing. She cannot wait for us to take the steps to take sure that the Second Amendment is no longer used as an excuse to do nothing at all when it comes to protecting schools and mosques and concerts from gun violence in this country. The time has come and we cannot wait. A kid who came to one of my events politely pointed out to me that he is planning to be here in the year 2100 and will be looking back in judgment at the decisions that we made in 2020 and the effect on what that will have on the climate. They cannot wait for us to act now in our time to leave to lead the world on climate chimes. This is the time and we cannot wait. I believe in the power of the American People to change our future before it is too late. I believe we are better as a people than this president. And i believe that the presidency itself has a purpose. I am not running for the office because i got it in my head one day that i would like to occupy it. I am asking for your support because i believe the presidency has a purpose and its purpose is not the glorification of the president. It is the empowerment and the unification of the American People to do big things. That is why the office exists and that is why i am asking for your support. This is our chance, our only chance to build an American Experience defined by belonging, by unity, and by boldness. If that sounds like hopeful talk, i believe the time has come to bring hope back into fashion in american politics because you cannot do anything without it. Running for office is an act of hope and that is why they call us hopefuls as we parade in front of you asking for your support. Being part of this party is an expression of hope. These things that i believe our country can do are not the product of my age, they are the product of my experience. I believe in american unity because i have had the experience of lacing up my boots in the dust of a war zone alongside fellow americans so diverse and different that we had nothing in common besides the flag on our shoulders and yet we learned to trust each other with our lives. I believe in american boldness because i have been the mayor of a city described as dying just a decade ago that ourselves up and moved out of the shadows of the empty factories and chose a Better Future for ourselves. And i believe in american belonging because i still remember the feeling of an indiana teenager trying to figure out whether he was ever going to fit. Trying to figure out if something inside of him meant that he was always going to be an outsider. Wondering if he would ever be able to serve in office or in uniform. Never be accepted. Never know love. I believe in american boldness because i have been the mayor of that same teenager grew up and is now standing in front of you, a two term mayor, a veteran, happily married, and asking for your support for the american presidency. [applause] that is why believe in a Better Future. If you are ready for an american politics defined by boldness, this is our chance. If you are ready for an american future defined by unity, this is our chance. If you are ready for an American Experience defined by belonging, this is our chance. Are you ready to make that a reality . [applause] are you ready to support our values up and down the ticket . Are you ready come november to vote blue no matter who . Lets make history together on saturday and lets go win in november for our values, country, and our future. Thank you clark county. I will see you on the trail.
