Is as seamless as possible. I was told by the former secretary that part of the reason that ptsd is not a disorder it is an injury. Who wants to be labeled with a disorder . You are more likely to hire somebody who has an injury. And what was the point i was going to make . [laughter] so he says no question the pipeline is clogged. Thats right. Ptsd. Seventy. [laughter] but it turns out vietnam that are beginning to show symptoms after all thesehe years. So they go to combat and come home to raise their families and get a job and retire. And they say somethings wrong. They check into the Veterans Administration showing symptoms now all of a sudden a lot of them so that is why these are important to have as many people getting help as quickly as possible. If they dont get help immediately there is the threat of selfmedication. The challenge is preventing that from happening. I use to self medicate but i quit drinking 1986. [applause] who is the subject of your next portrait and why . Mac i look at a lot of paintings i guess we are in arrogant lot but if you mess up doesnt upset anybody. So senator huckabee paints giant portraits a fabulist painter by the way. You should google him. He has painted faces nobody knows. And said you should paint a huge portrait 6foot big and its me. My face on a 6foot campuses a lot ofan face. [laughter] so it takes a long time. And it turns out each part of your face is a portrait to itself. You could spend four or five days on the year because it is so big. So i am doing that right now and it is a fascinating experience. So we went to the spca in dallas a friend of ours has donated quite a bit of money so we get in there there is a dog foster Mother Holding a tiny puppy that this dog was abandoned at a construction site but the others were adopted. His name was freddy had to wait because he wasnt eating very well. Laura picked up the dog and it was over. De [laughter] he was in the line of sight and i said okay. We have a dog named freddy. I painted him. I do know of have ever done this that we did dna to find out how he and brad he is. [laughter] one whole line that says mixed breed then ciao staffordshire terrier which is a pitbull in the border collie. Have you ever thought about being arch instructor . Mac no. Im still an arch pupil. It is important to have people around who understand that and are willing to help you reach out. If you look at those World Leaders there isnt much expression. They look like tony blair or Angela Merkel but no confidence and not a lot of paint some have a lot of paint and big brushstrokes. My instructors help me to gain the confidence to paint that way. This wasit anonymous. Can you do a portrait of our family for our,. Christmas card. No. They say will you paint something foru charity . Then you will do that the rest of your life. This collection of 98 paintings given to the Bush Foundation Endowment Fund may be worth something 30 years from now then they can sell it. I made a fancy copy of each painting i promise to make only one copy per portrait and i will send it to each vet. [applause] questions about four tricks mann portrait specifically who will complain on a still life but if you capture the image of another human on campus you better get it right. Any of the subjects complain . Other them all right . I painted another one and she didnt like it and then it looked like the gerber baby. [laughter] to make this also about the specifics of portraiture the most complex form of art as an insight into the subjects character. That means between the artist in the subject. Did that occur with you . I did. Thats a good question. In order to make the portrait work you have to have a feeling about who you are painting. I paint with Great Respect for each person. As a matteroffact brian came back to the ranch we have club 43 people who have been to every human and expanded every year. They formed bonds among themselves so i saw four vets on the today show the other day i saw two of them today at ellen so yes i stay in touch. Some send pictures and they are my friends. What inspired you to make a book out of the paintings . I guess it is a y little risky to put your paintings out there somebody may not like d them so i am kind of used to that. I wanted to raise money for the foundation. I think when you read them you will be moved because they are the stories of courage and recovery the readiness to help others and to highlight my biggest concern. Prosthetics are great some have even then back in combat. The first portrait they lose their leg then they go back to combat. Thats great it is those invisible one that concerns me. This is a way to highlight that to come forward and talk about that the caregivers if it isnt working for a very uiimportant cause. But i intend to use that and this is just one way tous do so b17.
