Out on stage, so i want her because she was looks out for me. Im pretty sure that mike is backstage. A little bit nervous because he thinks it is a good idea for me to introduce him until the moment arrives and then he gets a little nervous. Hopefully he will survive. Susan i thought that you all, probably know a little bit about mike given him you are. But i will run through his resume really fast. And then you, the insider thanks, they feel kind of obligated to share since the wife is introducing the husband. So fast of the resume. He was blessed to study and two of the worlds finest academic institutions. He did well, he was a good student, he studied on friday nights. [laughter]. I know. He served five years active duty in the United States army,. [applause]. s first assignment was leading troops into the east german border into the state mike indoors tanks and i think that he would tell you his favorite job probably to death, is being a soldier. [applause]. He practiced law, for a few years here in washington ready to move back to kansas which is where his mother was from to start an Aerospace Business pencil that any ran an oil and gas business. And that her son nick, went off to college. And we were empty nesters and it sounded so appealing. But the house was really quiet. It was too quiet and i was a little bit sad. So mike ran for congress. [laughter]. Which did take things up for sure. He had just won his fourth reelection to congress when President Trump asked him if he would Service Director of the cia. [applause]. Which was a huge honor. For sure. And he loved that work, but a year later, the president said american i need you to move over and mike moved to the state department and is now serving as your 70th secretary of state. [applause]. So that is the resume. Here is the insider stuff. Mike and his head, make a really mean italian meatball. It is a family recipe. Mike is a crazy fast reader, and that is a good thing these days. He loves power hoses. And does not get to do it very often anymore. So i feel bad about that. I dont know how people feel about me sharing this with you but our whole family and mike is a big family, our whole family teases him about being a diplomat. And i think it is because they see him more as the dod guy, as a take commander. But he always says to them, that he is delivering diplomacy with a little bit of a twist. So lets Cocktail Party banter and more straightforward talk. [applause]. Heres the really big one. In high school, he worked a baskinrobbins. He received the employee of the month award, but there is a future families funeral it is because he said he got it two months in a cistern rather say, one month. So i dont know how to clear it up. For years, mike has practiced what he has told our sons so many times, that is never give an edge. And when it comes to big things in life, which he has often explained, to when he comes to our commanderinchief, our country, dont ever given an inch. [laughter]. Back in 2009, when remained a Family Decision that might was going to run for congress to michael to get a big family with lots of cousins in kansas. So he decided he should write them a note and forewarn them that he was going to indeed run the running. I loved aligning put in that letter. He said i will be running as the person you know me to be. And i think that speaks to mike so perfectly because he just doesnt change, no matter what he is learning, he is who he is. [applause]. Thanks. He has taken an oath to defend america when with his life as necessary, eight times now. [applause]. And it is with that seriousness, that he executes the job that he is doing now is your secretary of state. So without further ado, my husband, mike pompeo. [applause]. [background sounds]. Thank you. Mike thank you so very kind. Thank you. Good afternoon everyone. [applause]. Thank you. This is awesome. So is survived an introduction by my wife. And just let the oval office, i survived that too. And until the present where i was going. I have to go, the people are waiting for me. He said that will be easy. [laughter]. Love, i am thrilled to be here, conservative gathering. Except for the trumpet rally. [laughter]. [applause]. And you should all know, i was to pass out copies tonight, but are nancy the river was still in the lives so i decided not to have hard copies of my remarks. Let me start with a simple question. I think i know the answer. Can anyone remember a better time to be an american conservative. [applause]. We are safer than ever, our economy is more prosperous than ever, and President Trump will not stop winning. [applause]. Is what a lot of folks that who have been working on this for a long time pretty youve heard from susan, not so many years ago, susan were right there beside you. We were working our tails off to volunteer to try to get good candidates. I ran for city council in wichita and she was a Great City Council person. But we did, we donated to cause that we believed in. Most of her time, we raised our family. We taught fifth Grade Sunday School together. That was great practice for my current job. Where active in her church. This is typical, deplorable stuff. As i was thinking about this group and when i visit today, i was were you are, what would i like to refer from what wouldve liked to have known. How does the state department spend your money. What is the secretary do all day. How did that guy get the job. [laughter]. Ill go down to the last question but im going to tackle, the first two. On talk about how under President Trump state department, is winning once again. [applause]. 74000 people, we have in hundred 92 countries, they go from afghanistan to some bubbly, on a daily basis, they do everything from helping American Companies to successful abroad, these applicants to keep americans safe, forge new alliances, and if you lose your passport, come and see me. But apart from that daily work, apart from that report, the present trump and i, overarching principles about what we need to do in the world and the things that we do not need to do. Simple missions, but we have to keep america safe. It may seem obvious. [applause]. And President Trump has constructed a Foreign Policy around government and national security. That is what we are protecting. Thats what happened when we kill the terrorist to murder hundreds of americans. Come back is truly been my honor to help President Trump read the world but just of that guy bit of others truly, demonic and evil people. [applause]. Is the founder and later of al qaeda, gone. [applause]. Gone modern. The sun, gone. And of course devices, is gone. [applause]. Can we all agree that the world is it better place because these people are gone. [applause]. [applause]. Its not just the state department, i am it part of a big team. Happens to be a College Classmate of my, intelligence, my former deputy is running the cia. General mark, a Great American and my neighbor. The only key member that i dont know well is that German Shepherd and i will get to know him. [laughter]. Is a remarkable team that the president has and he put together to help deliver the Foreign Policy. Second priority, American Values that includes defending that first freedom religious liberty. [applause]. Some people look at the killing of christians in the middle of east, and the believers, saying, that is not a problem. But i say, President Trump says oh yes it is. Because god has blessed this country for religious freedom, it is important everywhere. [applause]. Nations that respect, are more secure and stable and prosperous. If we dont protect religious freedom, no one else will. President trump has made this incredible and what we are trying to achieve. [applause]. I will give you another great example. As for the present trump leadership we have aligned United States assistance with american aid with American Values. By reinstating the city policies that prohibits dollars of yours from going to abortions anywhere in the world. Not one single dollar. [applause]. [applause]. President trump understands people in abortion is not a human right. It takes a human life. And theres another common, core american value, taking care of our own. That is why we have all worked so hard to liberate american hostages. [applause]. One of my proudest moments, Foreign Policy, restraint and respect. This mission stands out. One of my first test of secretary of state to get a handful of american from north korea. [applause]. We negotiated the mountain we can, when they got off the airplane come about 2 30 a. M. Not far from here. They cried tears of joy. Remember the pictures that present trump and wanting were on the tarmac to meet them. It is them off of the plane one of them handed me a card, i put in my suit pocket as they were making their way towards the crown card and i got home that night i pull up the card, and on the index card was 126. Psalms 126. When the lord brought back the captives, we were like men intrigued. Her mouth work filled with laughter and attends with songs of joy. And that it was said among the nations, the lord has done great things for them. The lord has done great things for us. We are filled with joy. Amen to that. [applause]. Many of the hostages, we have not been able to make public. We will bring home every american and we have lots of success. That was President Trumps thing. So that is the mission of the state department. How is been my time. You should know the difference secretaries will different. Im not in it for the fancy dinners. Urbana or switzerland, i spent my time on the job. When my predecessors went 62 times. Now my friends is a lot of cocktail. They also went to antarctica and i do know he was negotiating with there. Love, another to be with my team and places were present are chipped to the young men and women who are serving to diplomats all across the world. [applause]. Even as we stand here today, we have people in china and people in cabo, and baghdad, secretaries dont go frequently sometimes is hungry and iceland. When i got of these places, get a chance to think my teams for delivering americas values all across the world alongside our brothers and sisters in the defense. Thats an incredible letter for me. [applause]. Went to meet with leaders, i pretty much just mike. I learned this at west point. Just shoot it straight. They prefer it. It is why President Trump operates as well. Is a clear expectation expectation for what it means to be an american side would ask our partners to step up to the Biggest Challenges we face. Whatever that is. Cantering china, democracy in venezuela. You see President Trumps missions, you can see as part in our Foreign Policy. This is the value that we all know. When the iron curtain fell. Another part, being honest with yourself. You have to be clear about what you can do and what you cannot. Built on fantasy, with Foreign Policy has never worked. So what we have had to correct in our time. [applause]. Under previous administrations, our nation has signed dangerous agreements, the Iran Nuclear Deal. And then trade deals, most of these things cannot be fixed. Previous administrations were proud of the agreements. Actually went to the ribboncutting and signings. But everyone knows that is the point. Its changing behavior, but signing the document. [applause]. If there is no confinement no ce renegotiated terms and get better deals for each and every one of you. Come bacour success, if you ask, i was in hearing today they said presence trumps Foreign Policy was a failure, member, these are the same people said for years that we could never achieve exactly what we have done. Back they said, you can never put china on trade. We have this tribute. They said you can never give mexico the control of border and thousands of mexicans helping us out pretty. [applause]. And they said, you never defeat isis. In the custody is gone. [applause]. They said we would never be free with the prisoner in turkey and he is out. [applause]. They said mexico and canada will never renegotiate the deal. They said the experience would never engage in the conversation about the Nuclear Weapons program. This and it would never release the hostages know we cannot get the remains of her soldiers. We have done that. [applause]. I said Iran Nuclear Deal would plead to runaway proliferation but is restored. In this and taking out solomon he would lead to World War Three and it actually made a world far safer. [applause]. Is easy to forget, but they said the moving art in its infancy to jerusalem, and i pla. The best in decades. [applause]. [applause]. I could go on. When time is short and winning is exhausting. [laughter]. I know susan reminded you, 70th secretary of state, meant i note prison is 42nd president. I want to leave you with one last thought. I am frequently challenges but those who disagree with our Foreign Policy. They ask questions. Why is it okay for american to intervene with two countries. Why does america care was elected in the next leader in venezuela. So as of this week. Travel. Spend time with evil individuals who have americans blood on their hands. I filled children in every corner of the world. They know the answer to those questions. They know america in the present trump means business. They know that america is a force for good. And does not mean to, that we get it right every day but i can assure you, where ever i go, working for President Trump, people tug on my sleeve and they want to meet me know because i am representing the greatest nation in the history of civilization. [applause]. [applause]. It is my honor to represent each and every one of you every day. It thank you for what you are doing to keep this country exceptional. God bless you and god bless the United States of america. [applause]. [background sounds]. Seasons washington journal, live every day, with news and policy issues that impact you.
