We are here to celebrate the free press on capitol hill and throughout america, and to honor the work you do every day. We appreciate it. We appreciate you guys dividing the country the way you do. I got a quick note. Just some quick housekeeping. In case the Sprinkler System goes off, please ignore it. Jamaal bowman is here, and that is just a false alarm. All right. Yeah. Screw that guy. Thats not cool. We used to do that in high school. We are finding a speaker of the house. Like mike johnson, nobody has a clue who i am. And i look like a far right extremist, so, you know what i mean . They couldnt even agree on a speaker. That is how divided we are. Everyone is so controversial. Every comedian. Al franken was supposed to be here. This was supposed to be his outfit. As you know, al franken, his hands were a little busy because of the titty thing. Remember that . They were afraid to book him. Anybody can do al franken. Just be a little pretentious. Plug your nose. That is all you have to do to do al franken. I didnt really grab the titty. I grazed the titty. That is awkward. We considered some new people. I was like the 25th choice. Dont expect much. I think they tried to get rachel maddow. She is basically a lesbian stephen colbert. You cant tell the difference. She is funnier than him. They booked me, some guy you dont know, who looks like Zach Galifianakis banged Macaulay Culkin read this is brutal. This is not even a car. This is a grass that they picked up for the stage. I am 36. I look 36 from the front. From the back, i could be 12. I am a pedophiles worst nightmare. Know what im saying . I have caught 30 pedophiles since ive been in dc. I should be working for the police department, catching pedophiles. I could hang out in the playground and just wait. You know. Just wait for some creep. Hey, little boy, do you want to come with me in my van . I dont know, mister. I dont think that is a good idea. How about you come with me downtown . Gotcha. Gotcha. If you didnt laugh at that, youre a pedophile. Table 4, we got you. You are on to catch a predator. We got you. He has the pedophile glasses. You get a good look . Can i try those on for a second . You see this guy on the playground, get your kids. Can i swear . All right. Clean those if you want to catch those pedophiles. Okay. There we go. You guys are like, this is a Michael J Fox ripoff here. We have so many people. We asked Mitch Mcconnell to do it, but he froze up. You know it is bad when they pick a straight white guy with resting january 6th face. This is bottom of the barrel stuff. I look like i stormed the capital to sell espressos. The white guy is back. You guys are desperate. This is true. They were going to have the very first ensley disabled black vegan host this year, but mayor eric adams was not available. He was at a nightclub getting bottle service. Too on the nose . President biden was supposed to be here. Can we get a boo . He chose australia over you guys . Can we get a boo . Fox news in the back, thank you. Sorry, dominion. Thank you. You know. There are so many people not here. There are a lot of courageous reporters in israel. Round of applause. Right . Doing the lords work. Obviously, those terrorist attacks were terrible. Or as cnn calls it, a mostly peaceful war. Dr. Felt she was supposed to be here. He is busy planning the next global pandemic. Thanks a lot. Did you notice that war ended . The covid thing and it right when ukraine was invaded. He stopped reporting on covid. It was done the same day that russia came in. That was suspicious. If that didnt happen, dr. Fauci would still be on the tv. You would be like, dr. Fauci, it has been three years. You said two weeks. What i actually said was it is two weeks to flatten the curve. It is not possible. All right. You are all sponsored by pfizer. I feel bad for the media. You have tons of competition right now. Your main competitor is teenagers on tiktok. Did you know that most people now trust tiktok to get their news . They are getting their news from the communist chinese app. That is sad. I like to talk, but i think tiktok wouldve been a better name for a dating app for women in their late 30s. All right. Speaking of angry feminists, cnn is here. Round of applause for cnn. Right . We left 2000 seats empty on the balcony there to commemorate cnn plus. Will take a moment of silence. All right. What was that . Tell a joke . Your entire News Media Organization is one big joke. Big news. Right . We call it fake news. So sad. Nasty cnn interrupting me. So sad. So sad. Art. I will tell a joke. What is your moms name . No. I stopped watching cnn when they had that death ticker. Remember that . That was pretty cruel. You guys work or need for that death ticker everything all day. It was like checking the stock market. A fun fact about the death ticker if you played in reverse, it shows cnns ratings in real time. Well, i have already been canceled as a comedian, so they made a big mistake booking me. You guys ready to start the show . We have a great show. You guys ready to start the show . The leg warmers are here. Right . We have cuban food. At least the food is diverse. The chefs wont get canceled. We have cuban food from miami. We have florida stone crab, and the party is going on that. Plus, we have a very special speaking guest later. This guy is actually funny. We are going to do a quick word from our sponsors. Guys, round of applause for coming out. Thank you so much. Hi, everyone. It is senator Chuck Schumer. Im sorry i couldnt be there with you. Those of you who know Chuck Schumer know how much respect and admiration i have for journalists. Most importantly, for schumer stories. Your work is the bedrock on which this nation is built. We need this bedrock now more than ever before. The press informs. It establishes truth from fiction. It keeps the government in check. It is the guardrail for the country. It has been since the founding of the republic, keeping us from swerving off the road, going over a cliff. When the press tells the truth, when the press speaks truth to power, when the press does its job, our country is stronger. So in this room, everyone, i salute you. The fact that you, the free press, are always here, gives me the solace that the greatness of our democracy, even in these troubling times, will ultimately prevail. Have a drink for me tonight. Not too many. I need to be sharp at my inevitable press Conference Tomorrow morning. Please welcome, representing cnn, rtca dinner chair, noah gray. E you all so clearly the arti you all so clearly cl good evening, everyone. It is nice to see you all. So clearly, the rtca does not censor free speech. It is a tradition for the Dinner Committee chair to offer a toast. Thank you, mark. Lets all raise our class to the 118th congress. Democracy, as we have seen, is not always the easiest form of government, but our Congress Remains a shining example of giving the people government access to the bodies doing the governing. Look no further than the microphones and cameras that surround the office of the speaker or many votes for speaker the plaza outside of the capital, allowing the electorate to see not just what the government is doing, or not doing, but also, how it is done. Here is to the 118th congress. May you continue to open your halls to microphones and cameras , and set an example for press freedom, and to the men and women of the press, as my people say, lchaim. Thank you. You can kill the lights. Fisher. Here to introduce the joan s. Verrogne award, please welcome Tyler Fischer. The sword honors the memory of joan. Thank you for not heckling me. Thank you, sir. I have been told i am a crisis actor. That i am doing this for fame. I spent five years here in the capital. Here to present the 202n award, please welcome longtime2n nbc journalist pete williams. Well, im delighted to be here i am delighted to be here to present this award to the winners this year, my former colleagues from nbc, frank thorp v and sarah mimms of nbc news. This award honors their multimedia project, which was called, basis of the investigation, how the house january 6th Committee Final report came to be. I think you will find their work provides an intimate account of the anguish of bravery demonstrated by some of those who were caught up in the drama of the capitol right, and the historic congressional hearings that followed. At the heart of this project are some riveting photographs, taken by your colleague, frank thorp v. These days, photographers can choose from highly automated digital cameras that do just about everything but press the shutter, but frank did not take the easy way out. He went decidedly old school, employee black and white films in a camera that was stateof theart in 1912. He developed the images himself, working in a dark room that had about the same rate of of movement as a window seat in a Economy Class airplane. Im the revealing of intimate results are clearly worth it. There is a reason the National Gallery of art asked for one of franks january 6 photos for its permanent collection. They may be still autographs, but they are moving pictures. Sarah combined those photos of the interviews frank conducted to write elegant descriptions of what those people experienced, and their work reveals the dignity and humanity of people caught up in the capitol right in its aftermath. Nbc news considered it a sterling example of how the broadcast and Digital Space can work together, obviously, so did the judges. It is my pleasure to present the award to this years winner of the Joan Shorenstein barone award , frank thorp and sarah mimms. Oh, my. Got to stand up for. Oh, you are standing. Oh my gosh. Stand up. Oh, you are standing. Oh man, thank you so much. First and foremost, thank you so much. He literally helped install the darkroom at my house that i used develop all the photos for this piece. You are my hero, my journalistic guiding light, and someone i try to emulate every day. Your friendship and guidance let me to write here. Thank you. This piece would not exist if it were not for the people who trusted me to fix that 1920s film camera in their faces, and agreed to sit down and talk to me about one of the most dramatic, life altering experiences they have ever encountered. I am particularly grateful to the officers that told their story for the piece. I am literally sitting in the exact same place where they work assaulted while protecting the capitol. This piece pertained became a confluence of two things i particularly passionate about, telling stories in a differentiating way, and facing an processing trauma is incredibly important. We as journalists cannot turn our back on the sometimes dramatic events we are entrusted to cover. We can also not turn our back on a need to do the work, to admit how those events affect us. Time can heal the wounds, but as time passes, many try to taper over how deeply shocking and traumatic january 6 was, not only for the country, but for the people who experienced it firsthand. The journalism that we all do helps make sure the record reflects the reality. It is my hope thank you. It is my hope that this piece helps ensure the voices protected by those attacked at the capitol, and those who never did the Election Results remain dominant in the pages of history. Sarah mimms , as said, wrote the words in this, turning hours of interviews into a cohesive and compelling narrative that beautifully accompanied the images. Amanda guided the piece to publication. The piece is a combination of over seven months of work. It would not have been possible without the vision sarah and chelsea saw from the photo department, test to create such a beautiful presentation at something very different than what we do at nbc. Thank you to jenelle rodriguez, betsy corona for taking very little convincing to make this into a video they would air and nick for combing through hundreds of images and editing that video. His creativity and vision this happen. We would not be here if it works for our Capitol Hill Team at nbc news. Writable, rebecca kaplan, kyle stewart, kate has a, scott juan , and carrie dan, along with Ken Strickland and chloe arensberg. When i started on capitol hill in 2011, in d. C. Only had four people on the hill. As we have grown, the team consistently crushes it every day, leading the pack, inspiring me to push myself and think outside the box. I am so grateful or you. I also want to give a special shout out to haley, who ran a special coverage for the january 26 january 6th committee. She also shared her story for the piece. I am very grateful for you as well. Thank you to the house and senate radio and Television Galleries for trying to keep us out of trouble, trying, and the stills gallery for accommodating with all of my ridiculous cameras. My father and mother are here. You taught me to be the present and journalist i am today. I am so lucky to have you in my life. And to cope pali, the best partner, best mother to our child, and most supportive and encouraging cheerleader during the hours, and hours, and hours, and hours i went in the darkroom developing all this film, i am here because of you. I love you. I also really like you. Thank you so much for this honor. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to tell the stories with such an Incredible Team during this historic time. I hope pieces like this remind the American People that even with how divided this country was on january 6, there is hope for a better future. Thank you. Here to present the m award, please welcome david here to present the david bloom award, please welcome davids daughters, christine and nicole bloom. Good evening,. Its such an honor to be back again this y good evening, everyone. It is such an rehonor to be bac again this year to present david bloom award. It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since our dad, and corresponded for nbc news emma passed away while covering the war in iraq in 2003. This award, given in his memory , celebrates exceptional enterprise and investigative reporting, with particular eye toward journalism that is fresh, daring, or undertaken in physical circumstances. The david bloom award takes on a renewed significance this evening, as we recognize the realtime correspondence on the ground in the lease, ukraine, and elsewhere. Of course tonight, our thoughts are with their families as well , these brave journalists and their crews are risking their lives to bring personal crucial information to the world. I think like everyone, we are praying for resolution and or the trust of those old house being held hostage. This years award is presented to a team of correspondence, anchors, and producers at the end and, who spent weeks on the ground covering the first days of the russian invasion with ukraine, bringing viewers live footage from belgorod, kyiv, kharkiv, and odessa. I just heard a big bang right here behind me. There are big explosions taking place in kyiv right now. Met just been a chaotic here. We are getting out of test as we can. Your father being killed like this, does it harden your resolve . Imagine what it is like. Another shot being fired right now. It is extraordinary to see this level of destruction anywhere, let alone in a tiny village like this one. Russian horses shelled the building where she was staying, and she was wearing unicorn pajamas. So many people being evacuated. This is the main train station here in kyiv me unbelievably crowded. Most of these people are trying to get west. This is the scene of the missile crisis, warning Emergency Responders back here. This is the drone that blew up the house, fired by the russians. Just how devastating the size of these weapons is quite extraordinary. This missile struck right here. This city is crying as it mourns. Work on them, life of the people. This is cnn. Here to accept the 2023 david bloom award on behalf of cnn is chief National Security corresponded alex marquardt, a grand chief National Security analyst and anchor jim should know. Congratulations. Well, thank yo, well thank you. Jim cant make it tonight, he is in israel, covering this war between israel and hamas. I just want to say, thank you to the bloom daughters. This means a lot to me personally to accept an award with david blooms name on it. My first job out of college at nbc was giving tours. One of the stops on the tour was a memorial to the journalists at nbc who had lost their lives, and right in the middle of it was a tribute to david bloom. We would stop five times a day with each tour, tell the story of david bloom, talk about his legacy, and what he meant to nbc and to journalism. When you are a young, aspiring corresponded, to see that shot of blue on the back of the bloomobile roaring through the desert in iraq, that was it, that is what you wanted to do. David, the producer, the day that he died when he was in iraq was a lebanese guide who is still at nbc, who i spoke with today, has become a very good friend of mine. When i mentioned i would be here tonight, expecting this award for our work in ukraine, he was telling me about david and he talked about his drive, and his rigor, his competitiveness, his empathy, his desire to always be at the heart of the biggest, and most important stories of the day. To get this award that is named after him, to accept it on behalf of all of us, that really does a lot. When it comes to covering ukraine, my colleagues and i are, i think, extremely proud of the coverage that we have done from the first moments of the invasion some 20 months ago until right now. It is of is one of the most extraordinary conflict that i think any of us have seen on so many levels. Yet, here we are these days hardly talking about it, because we are watching another extraordinary conflict erupts, and we are all bracing for what may come, not just in israel, gaza, the west bank, and beyond in the greater middle east. Amid the thousands of people who have been killed over the past 2 1 2 weeks, there are more than 20 journalists, 24 to be exact, according to the committee to protect journalists , this is the deadliest stretch for journalists since the ppj has started keeping track back in 1992. You can imagine that the community of comp correspondence and conflict journalists is a very close one. You go through some incredibly difficult variances together, working very long hours, you spend weeks in the same hotels, running into each other around the front lines, helping each other out with anyone gets into a tough spot. When a fellow corresponded, or journalist gets hurt, killed, or impacted by the war, they are risking their lives to cover, its really does hit home. So, i would be remiss not to mention that today, while wearing a navy blue flag jacket with press right across the front, we saw the arabic roche for gaza , learned that he had lost his wife and his son, and his daughter, killed according to him, in an israeli airstrike, in a home that they had fled to to seek refuge, thinking they were safe there. We learned about that covering this very war. So, the horrors we have seen in the past 2 1 2 weeks are just unimaginable, especially of course for people who have lived through them, and the journalist who are covering them. We, of course, have to keep covering it. We cannot, we absolutely cannot stop covering the war in ukraine as well. 20 months since the invasion. I am also out of our see it in commitment to the story, the absolutely enormous resources that we have devoted to covering it takes a lot of money to get around that country to do it safely, to do it correctly , and i cant overstate how thankful i am going into those situations with the support that we are given, from the medical team, to the security team, the tireless and endlessly resourceful ukrainian journalist, who in our case is led by a woman named s. E. Cupp atago. Me and my colleagues got to meet her. We have a crew of absolutely fearless journalists. Last time i was in ukraine, i worked with scotty mclean, who spent night after night on a balcony in odessa, filming the russian missiles and drones just pummeling the city, absolutely fearless. I like to think, personally, the producers i worked with in ukraine. Terrific teammates all across the board. I cant say enough about the ukrainians weve hired and we get to work with. Before i go, we have a quick video message from some of the faces you will recognize who have helped drive our coverage over the past 20 months and are now doing the exact same thing in israel. Nicole and christine, thank you so much for this honor. Dave would be so proud of you both, and of ava. Our thoughts are with all of you and with melanie on this night. We are very honored to accept this on behalf of all of our colleagues in ukraine, and also here, who are making such great sacrifices to cover these important, but horrible stories. I am sure i for everyone at cnn covering this conflict and in ukraine, anybody in news media who covers these conflict, the david bloom award was given for something else, it would be wonderful if we did not have to cover these godforsaken things anymore. Thanks so much. Thank you to the rtca. Thanks to all of you. We really appreciate it. Here ty thomson here to visit the 2022 Jerry Thompson award, please welcome cnn anchor and chief Political Correspondent dana bash, alongside the in and in your auto journalist and former rtca chair, j mcmichael. Don t tonight, don johnson could not take it tonight, so, filling in. Where is your pastel . I did not wear pastel. By the way, i did not propose another toes, the other one was not longer long enough for me. How about you guys . My arm is a little tired from that. Who knew three ounces of wine be so heavy . We are here to visit the Jerry Thompson award. The Jerry Thompson memorial award recognizes extraordinary careers in photojournalism and production, focusing on the qualities and selfless this, mentor ship, and commitment to quality. Met this award honors the memory of Jerry Thompson, a longtime videographer for see it in, known for his generous friendship, willingness to help others, and consistently pushing above and beyond expectations, and those of us who got to work with him miss him still every single day. Jerry was an amazing colleague, not just for those of us at cnn, but to everyone he met. He was kind, thoughtful, humble, and a 11 parent. There cant be just one john bullard anecdote. He had so stories, and they all last at least 20 minutes. We start at abc the exact same day, in the exact same office. Like a one take wander. He was from the south i was from the north, they made us hardeners. We barely understood what we said to each other. They all start almost the same way. I got to tell you. The next thing you know, 20 minutes later, we got it. Atlanta, 1984, Peter Jennings and i were kneedeep in mashed potatoes. John is an incredible person, colleague or friend for about 70 years ive been working with him. He does not just do his job, he gets to know you along the way. I think that is a really important part of working at a place like nbc news. Always simple. I describe john bullard in three ways, he never says no, a partners dream he will always share his , every stand up is a work of art. He cares about the job he is doing and everyone around him more than anyone else. Assignment of will rogers, ifixit john, because i needed to know the layout. Four minutes went by and john text me back, sorry, i did not get back to you sooner, im in the hospital having a major heart attack. The guy texted me, having a heart attack. That is how much he cares. He is the only person i know who grew up dreaming about being a cameraman. So tonight w. So tonight, we are presenting the 2023 award to the Jerry Thompson award, to the one and only john bullard. [ applause ] just real quick, bn real quick, before john speaks, john has worked for practically every News Organization in this city and he was one of cnns original employees. He also edited film, that is right, fill in the 70s in high point, north carolina. Correct . Anyway, ladies and gentlemen john bullard. You. This is this got a bithank you. This just got a little tougher. I just found out my daughter is watching online. Id like to thank the rtca for choosing me to be the honor of the 11th recipient of the Jerry Thompson award. This to me is like winning a third super bowl trophy. I was a part of the Emmy Award Winning team it nbc for january 6, and now receiving the thompson award for surviving the intensity of covering news inside these buildings. I met jerry in the mid80s, as he moved from local news in freelancing to see in an. Jerry with his softspoken demeanor, exuded a quiet confidence while doing his job. He wanted to help everyone understand what goes on out here in the field and he believed in sharing this knowledge, and i believe in it too. Having interned as assistant joined in the field, help them understand what goes on out here. It is knowing that russell rotondo, will rogers, and canon rotunda, are not in the same building. There is a little bit of distance there. Also, hopefully give them better perspective in doing their jobs. As founder of Faber College once said, knowledge is good. It is about sharing this knowledge and information, and helping others to do their jobs , so we can do our jobs better. I am humbled to be mentioned in the same breath as jerry, melissa, george, eddie, kim, peter, garney, rick, west, tony, and eric. As you already heard in the video, Melissa Young and i were a crew for 2 years. I believe we were the first crew that has ever gotten the same award. We have the best job in the world. We are on the front porch of news every day. It is like going to grad school and not having to write a thesis at the end of the term, and we get paid for it. That is great right now, my thanks and love to my daughter, maranda. She is the reason why i continue to work. She is a sophomore at ole miss. Miranda, please graduate on time and i am not getting any younger. Thank you. Thank you to nbc for allowing me to continue to practice my craft, and to the nbc hill team a for their guidance and support. I am proud to be, as jared hake once said, a visual and anticipatory journalist. Thank you for this honor. Please welce is welcome back your host, Tyler Fischer. I feel like imr every time i come up here. Benjamin it is like i am getting tinier every time i come up here. How about a round of applause for everybody who has won so far, this is great like cnn awards. Up next, the career achieve its award is awarded each year to an rtca member for his or her , or they, or them, kind of bigoted not to include those. I am from brooklyn. The significant accomplishments and contributions to the broadcast coverage on capitol hill. Take it away. The thing is that the thing i love about giaco is that everyone loves him. Lets say there was an opening for speaker of the house, everyone would go for him because he gets along with everyone. What else is there to say . Letting us in front of his camera on a moments notice, to share pictures of his grandson. Every time i see you, you are always smiling, such a professional, making sure everything is done perfectly. Obviously, i did this video myself, as it is not up to your quality of work. Giaco is there, dont worry about it. That is what we say day in and day out at nbc news. Editor to life, editor to work, a grandfather, this might be the same time i share the same experience. I met giaco in 1990, when i first started at cnn. He literally took me under his wings i was a career. He taught me how to do audio, how to shoot and if not for him, i would not be standing here talking to you today. The assignments i remember the best are the midianites and overnights that giaco and i spent together at the pentagon during the first world war. Giaco, you are a washington institution, and as good of a person as you are a journalist. Whether we are sharing family pictures or moonshine, which i hope we do more of, i leave every interaction with you better than i did the before. Whether it is january 6 or another weekday live shot, giaco , theres no one you would rather see standing next to the camera than that man. All i can say from all of us at nbc news, giaco, congratulations. We are so proud of you and thank you for everything you do day in and day out. Here to present the car Achievement Award for distinguished here to visit the career Achievement Award for distinguished reporting on congress in 2022, please welcome vermont senator, bernie sanders. Let me congratulate giaco on his award. He deserves it, on a personal note, let me thank you very much for the many times he has calmed me down when nbc was 20 minutes later then they said they would be in me just thank him for his friendship over the years. He does a truly great job, and i am glad he is being acknowledged for it. Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen. Chuck ladies and gentlemen, giaco riggs thank you to the execute committee thank you to the executive committee for selecting me to get this honor. I was very surprised, and deeply moved. Those of you who know me know i am an introvert, so this is a difficult task tonight. Thank you gpt chat. As i look out hold on, hold on. As i look out on the attendees tonight, i see my colleague, i see my family, i see my friends. I see the fabric of my life with you guys. If i played a small part in the furtherance of some of your careers, when i see you guys on air, like my little birds are leaving the nest and flourishing, flourishing. You guys know who you are. Biscuit back to my chair chat. Before i was given the moniker of the mayor of the russell rotunda, i earned my strike stripes as covering breaking news domestically and around the world hear it i would like to share what story with you. We were traveling in afghanistan well, hold up. Everybody knows, as you saw in the video piece, i never go with my hair uncovered, it is like a thing. So, we are in kabul with 43, and we are going for a photo op. Rush into the room, get your pictures, and they take you out. I am traveling that day. We rush into the room, 43 sitting here, the president , hamid karzai jumps up out of his chair and goes, you you, man i recognize the white house, welcome to afghanistan and 43 is sitting there like, he does not give me the stink eye, but it is like, dude . What is going on here . [ laughter ] true story. Anyway, i will be brief. I want to thank you all. Thank the committee. Thank my wife, who has been a backbone in all of this. Thank you all, guys. Chet gpt, baby thank you, man. Hes able to please welcome rtca executive Committee Member from abc news, ben siegel. Hi. Good evening. Dinner is going to be served hi, good evening. Dinner will be served, by the way. Coming out of the panel executive committee started thinking about what we could do to get back to the community and help the next generation of journalists. That process led us to Richard WrightPublic Charter School in southeast d. C. The school is just a few blocks from the capitol and has a curriculum focused on media, journalism and performing arts with any students who go on to study journalism in college. Sky Allie Johnson is one of the students. And Richard Wright, she was a Student Leadership ambassador, the lead anchor for the schools weekly newscast and took part in the Princeton Journalism Program here she is now a sophomore at George Mason University at honors college, majoring in journalism and forensic science. After college, she hopes to enter journalism and work to investigate issues in her community and key people in warmed. Informed. She was not able to make it here tonight, but we have a group of Richard Wright students and faculty at table 16. I dont know where table 16 is, but thank you guys. There you are. So, the transit was honored to award sky allie hour for scholarship and we are excited to work with Richard Wright once again this year on a partnership that will bring students up to the hill for a closer look at our artwork, and another scholarship, which has been doubled this year, thanks to the generosity of the Scripps Howard fund. Thank you all and congratulations again to all the award winners. T an idea. Why dont you wear i got an idea, why dont you wear something from the jim jordan collection . I will. From the jim jordan collection, we are done. Here we go, from the jim jordan collection, no jacket. In fact, the whole collection does not make jackets. Please welcome chair of th radio and Television Correspondents association, Jared Halperin of fox news radio. Thank you all for cominge 2023 Radio Television correspo thank you all for sscoming t the 2023 Radio TelevisionCorrespondents Association dinner. As you know, this is washingtons most prestigious press corps dinners, if you dont tell all of the other press courts dinners. I appreciate everyone coming, that was great. I know there was something more pressing happening in the capitol tonight like say a speaker stay dinner. As chair of the Correspondents Association, a big honor to get to have this job. I wanted to take a few moments of personal privilege just to say thank you to a lot of people. Thank you to the 4000 members who make up our association in the rtca , a robust press corps that has worked tirelessly over the last many, many years. I want to thank the dedicated Public Servants in the craft secretary corps in the other capitol hill communicators. I want to say thank you to the police officers, sergeant at arms, the Dining Services get half, the doorkeepers, custodial staff, tour guides, and everyone who insures the si smoothly, and efficiently. I want to thank the members of congress and the senators who take time to talk with us, answer our questions, and inform our reporting. Each of us feel different roles. Hopefully, no interest bechtel. Covering and working the capitol, the white house, the pentagon, the campaign trail, it can be a lot. It was for me earlier this year that i actually took several weeks off to get treatment for mental health. That would not have been possible without the support of my family, especially my beautiful, intelligent wife, lacey. Who, by the way, is one of the members of the Radio TelevisionCorrespondents Association. Thank you, sweetheart. This last year would not have been possible without the support of colleagues and my network, my fox family, thank you so much. My family across the press corps, and my type as chairman was made much easier because of the executive community Committee Members using up here tonight who have spent hours, sometimes at inconvenient times, to advocate for access, setup, news conferences, all while doing their fulltime job. Noah gray wouldve been the official host. If you have anything left in your glass, i hope you will join me in saying thank you to noah, paul, to been me nathaniel, claudia, our vice chair and soon to be chair, ryan nobles, who we appreciate, buddy. I also want to thank our gallery director. Stick around. Not only do we have some inspiring award winners, but we have a tremendous after party that will transport you, im told, back to 1980s miami with the help of the legwarmers. Thank you. This is why everyone wanted to speak to me this is so much fun to hold. It is time for dinner to be served. Tim, i just want to sayt when i think of ferrara testarossa, i thin tim, i just want to say, when i think a ferrari test rosie, i think of you. When i think a ferrari testarossa, i think of me also. We promise, we have a lot more from the legwarmers coming up, but we want to reset for a little bit weird i want to thank everyone at our team who has worked so hard to make dinner a reality, a real special thanks to our dinner chair, noah gray, who is leaving the profession after tonight. As i said, as every noah project, there was a lot of turbulence. I think we can safely say, he lands the plane with really and see. He did that again tonight. Thank you, noah. I also want to thank our chair, Jared Halpern, who has been a terrific advocate for our colleagues on the hill during what has been an unprecedented and chaotic year on the hill. Thank you for Jared Halpern. Frankly, i want to say how honored i am to take over as chairman in the coming year, serving on this committee has given me a unique insight into the work of managing an aggressive press corps, and balancing their needs with the concerns of those who work to keep the capitol safe. And it is important. In the coming year, our organization will work tirelessly to advocate for increased press access on capitol hill in every room, the peoples business is being conducted, so should the eyes and ears of the american public, and that is us. And that includes in the year of our lord 2024, pushing for Electronic Devices inside the chamber of the United States senate. We should have mentioned that to Chuck Schumer while he was here. We forgot. All right, if you could all please give your attention now, as i am pleased to introduce tonights headliner, who requires no introduction. All right. Thank you. I didnt want to come all right, thank you. I did not want to come back up here. This is not how standup works. You dont bomb and then come back on. That is what we are doing. The media knows how that feels. We are doing it. Thank you, guys, man. One more round of applause for everyone for coming out, for everybody who won an award. This is a tough job. I wrote this this morning. I found out it was terry who heckled from abc. You got ratted out. This is the part where everybody just talks. This is good. I dont know how is jim stocky here . How do you do it . How do you handle it . She does not give a crap. This is good. All right. Very good. Do you guys like impressions . We will switch it up a little bit. Yeah . You guys like impressions . Yeah that was my impression of you guys when i asked if you like impressions. Lets step it up a little bit. It is good to be here. This is like a diversity training meeting here. I think they are like, lets shame the white guy tonight, show him what it feels like. Lets talk about politics, how about that . Can we make fun of some politicians . How about that . Yeah . Will everybody sit down and shut up if i make fun of some old politicians . Do we have a deal . No more press , no more cnn, no more fox . I think we need an age cap on our politicians. What you think about that . Round of applause if you think we need an age cap on the politicians. Have you ever watched the end of a congressional hearing . It looks like walking dead, man. I am not convinced nancy pelosi did not pass away years ago, they are just throwing one strings and bringing her out. Mitch mcconnell, that was tough. I think you did better that i am doing right now when he had a stroke during his beach, to be honest. I think you got more laughs than i am getting right now. Can we bring him up here . That is how old people are getting. No one even noticed. It stopped talking for 3 minutes , you know what i mean . Everyone is like, it is okay. Mitch passes away every day for 3 minutes, that is just how it goes. I got paid already, i am just doing eight more minutes. Its wild. Biden is not doing great, can we agree on that . Whose cocaine was that in the white house . Does anybody know . Are you guys reporting on that stuff . Does anybody know whose cocaine that was . Yours . Can i have some right now . I think it was joe bidens cocaine, i really do. Here is my theory, right i think biden has aged, kicked the cocaine, sprinkles it in the scalps of little children so he can walk right up. Youve got to stop sending biden to disaster zones to give speeches, that is not good. Who is responsible . Someone sent him to hawaii to try and make these people feel better, you know, their houses burned down. He is like, folks, i know how you feel, your house is burned to a crisp. 1959, i burned the popcorn on my stove, not a joke. I joke around. I love watching biden give a speech. He always starts out yelling, and he was the most important part of the speech, you know what i mean . B not t a joke look, folks, first we are going to stop. 9 million, trillion dollars, jack. I joke around. Which way am i going here . This is biden walking off. Which way are we going, where my going . Shaking hands, that is wild. Total opposite of trump, right . Trump starts out calm and screens the end of his speech like a lunatic. If trump were you right now, excuse me, excuse me, the fake news, excuse me. There is probably 5 Million People in here, but the news wont report on it. We probably have 5 Million People in here. Maybe 5 trillion people in here, but they wont work on it. That is what we are doing. Trump starts out calm and screens the end of his speech, right . Have to say this great country, excuse me, we have to save up this great country, because the radical left, and you know these people, right . The radical left me they are rapists, they are murderers this is on tv, right . Picture this is going live on tv. I kind of miss george bush. I think we should elect george bush again, get him back. I would love to see george bush as president right now. Unbelievable. Imagine george bush having to list the sexuality acronym. We act like trump is the first crazy guy, but we had an autistic cowboy running this country for 8 years. George bush listing the sexuality acronym, that would be incredible, right . I just want to see what everybody, everybody within the l, l j t, the lmafos, the hdtv, the pb j. You guys support free press, but not free speech. How about you listen up, you there you go, everybody in the closet is like, how did he know . I will listen up now. Im doing two hours tonight. This feels more like an escape room. How do i get out of here . They should just wheel Nancy Pelosis corpse out here. Did i hurt your families . What did i do to you . What did i do to you . I kind of miss oldtime he president s, man, before we were all divided. I just watched a documentary, im just going to do it, does not matter if you are listening, like i said. I just watched it. Is anybody single . If i get laid tonight, this is well worth it. Anybody into midgets here . Was nontender . I will set my radius. I hope i can find you. I just want to say, sorry to my mom and dad.
