DAWE: Empress of Ireland - Red Deer Advocate

On May 29th one of the worst tragedies in Canadian history was commemorated The date was the 109th anniversary (1914) of the sinking of the Empress of Ireland in the St. Lawrence River, not far from Rimouski, Quebec. Of the 1477 passengers and crew on board the ship, 1022 lost their lives following a collision with a Norwegian steamer, the Storstad.
