Delhi's Compulsory Registration of Marriages Has Unintended Consequences for Muslims

The Delhi government is registering marriages of non-Hindus under the Special Marriage Act. On account of SMA provisions, Muslims registering their marriages in Delhi will no longer be governed by Muslim personal law on issues of marriage, divorce and inheritance.
