Exercise Maple Strike hosted in Cold Lake for first time

A group of Canadian soldiers were in the Lakeland last week for Exercise Maple Strike. Their job, from the ground on the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range, was to practice directing air strikes that in a combat situation can be close to friendly fire.
These army personnel are called joint terminal attack controllers. They can call in bombs and bunker busters (a type of munition designed to penetrate targets buried deep underground), as well as ask for strafing runs against personnel and light vehicles.
