When you think about history weve only been richer once on a relative basis to cash rates, the front end of the yield curve in the ten year treasury, that was a. Com bubble were not as expensive on an absolute basis as we were at the end of 2021 but relative to riskfree were almost as expensive in the. Com bubble so its h hard to get excited about evaluations. And the economy has done so much better, the fed is going to keep retire for longer and the good to continue to drain their Balance Sheet which means money supply continues to shrink. Its very hard to have sustainable markets in any asset class with money supply shrinking. It is a time to be defensive, time for capital not a time to be a hero. What 8 , since the end of 2021 anytime you get a sustained rally, october of last year through june and july this year when a very powerful bear market rally or a very short bull market, you have to utilize those opportunities to de risk your portfolio. The yield is at 4. 873 up to it have basis points, we know the yield hit 5 a week ago. Economists are expecting core prices to rise three tenths of 8 month over month and 3. 7 yearoveryear with the pce index out this morning, what do you expect there and what kind of impact will that have on rates. What do you do with the 5 yield and a ten year, do you want to shift money over a fixed income. I think the big picture you have to focus on strategies to benefit from higher sustained rates and one of those is private lending. A lot of the strategies are democratized and investors can access them. A higher front and meeting a higher fed funds rate and a higher backend yield curve means you get more income for longer, furthermore because Recession Risk is receded you will get back less of the income for default risk. When you think about whats going on with the banking system, banks are retrenching because of some of the losses to book value caused by higher rates but also more regulatory pressure and lets face it to have a hard time hanging onto deposits right now so banks are stepping back creating a window for private lenders to step in and lend to middlemarket companies or senior secure commercial real estate opportunities. To us if you and i sat down 18 months ago and said lets come up with the best environment for private lending, this is the environment we come up with, thats one way to monetize the higher rate environment. Maria im just wondering if they dated today will send yield higher, john long ski jumping i would take a look at oil prices as you jump in, they are higher this morning ahead of the inflation numbers. In response to higher oil prices, we have a ten year treasury yield that will be higher this morning up from 4. 85 recently 4. 88 and thats the warning if you do have a sustained upturned by oil prices if they break above the 100dollar mark, then you might well be looking at a worsened outlook for inflation. That means a ten year yield over 5 , more fed rate hikes and with that you will have significantly lower equity prices. Maria what do you think troy . More inflation worried this morning . Part of the fundamental reason that tenure is worried is the economy has been stronger and much easier to take core inflation from six to 4 and with home prices accelerating to the upside and with Oil Rebounding and commodities rebounded more broadly, that brings into play potential further hikes, we dont think theyre going to hike but there is the potential to do that. When we look at the bond market, what scares us more than the fundamentals is the technicals, we are treasury issuance as far as the eye can see given the budget deficits at the time with academy is doing relatively well, the biggest buyer in history the fed is the biggest seller and much harder for Foreign Government to step it up by treasury since i dont have the huge current account. The u. S. Banking system too big to fail banks could step in. We had so much book value destruction of the past 18 months from higher rates. It is a tricky market environment for the treasury market. Great question, good to start with the second one, and very concerned about whats happening in the north and the threat from hezbollah. Joining me the coffee shop owner been right and his wife amy are the parents of four children, their daughter lily has autism and their son beau and betty have down syndrome, bitty and bows coffee has grown to nine shops across the United States with 100 employees, thank you for being here, this is personal, tell us about your coffee shop and why you started your business and why America Needs to understand the so much better. Thank you for having me ive enjoyed watching you for a long, long time. When bowe and betty were born, bowe about ten years ago when you two born with a disability and a daughter lily 20 diagnosed with being on the autism spectrum, we knew that we needed to do something about the situation and the situation that there is a Socio Cultural issue at hand not just in this country but across the world with people with intellectual and disabilities. The issue does not rest within they are who they are whether youre born with a conventional disability or you acquire a disability from a car accident or a stroke or what have you. Disability is part of the human condition and yet as a Socio Cultural entity, the people of the world we look at a disability through a negative lens and thats what were trying to change. So our shops when you go into our shops you have a sense of community with people with disability maybe sometimes for the first time in your life, im not here to judge anybody my wife or my family not here to judge anyone. Were here to give people the opportunity by going hr coffee shops to have an interaction with somebody with the disability whether it be autism or Cerebral Palsy or down syndrome or a multitude of disabilities a go undiagnosed and see the humanity and that person, see themselves and doing the job that they could be doing themselves and if the notion of what is my business excuse for not having somebody on staff at the disability two hours a day one day a week doing something with them by four walls, it takes compassion, creativity and commitment to do it and thats what were trying to show the world. Maria also what is the impact of the work on the individuals when youre actually putting them in a job productive, is having an impact on their condition . Is a very important question and the answer is it is lifechanging. We dont just say that because thats how we feel, we hear that from our employees of which we have over 400 across the country.
