Press release from the Suffolk County Legislature:
Jan. 31, 2021
Legislator Steven J. Flotteron joined Ambassador Girl Scout Karalynn Cantwell along with her family at the West Islip Library to recognize her earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest recognition a girl can achieve in Scouting. Karalynn wrote and published a book about hurricane victims in the United States which she dedicated to her Grandmother, Judith Maurer, who was a long-time resident of the seaside community of Breezy Point. Her Grandmother's home and so many others were devastated during Superstorm Sandy which made her want to write the book. She researched for two years and interviewed people who experienced devastation due to storms such as Katrina, Irene and Sandy.
