Got iron dome intercepters coming off. Get down. Pull it off the sticks. Stay with us. Just everybody get flat. We dont have time. Youll see some interceptions taking place. Theres motor far and Gaza Fire Off of the strip right now laying flat on the ground. We have to take cover. So again, were going to stay down here for a moment, this is what communities along the border are dealing with. Its constant fire. Neil that was the scene a short time ago as trey yingst and his team were taking cover along the israelgaza border. Benjamin netanyahu saying the air strikes open hamas targets in gaza are just the beginning. Well be speaking to israels ambassador in just a moment. Welcome, everybody. Im neil cavuto. It has been stunning, historic and now signs that it is escalating and fast. The latest from trey yingst in israel. Trey . Neil, good afternoon. Tonight president Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the nation and the world with one message. Hamas asked for a war, they will get a war. We saw that in the initial phases of what appear too be plans for a multiweek conflict. The israelis have continue usually targeted the gaza strip since saturday when early in the day hamas and islamic and jihad militants marched in and massacred more than 900 civilians and soldiers and taking dozens hostage. Tonight israel continues the strikes against hamas positions in the northern and eastern part of gaza. Theyre now shelling and also hitting gaza with their navy. So theyre looking to put a lot of pressure on the gaza strip before sending Ground Troops in. They have told anywhere near the gaza border to money because they will be pushed forward. We have seen tanks and apcs and thousands as they bring for a multifront conflict. While this is happening in the south, more than 4,500 rockets have been fired in since saturday morning. And these air strikes taking place in gaza, Israelly Forces Have had to move to the border with lebanon. 300,000 reservists in total have been called up. Lebanese militants from hezbollah engaged the Israeli Forces in a firefight along the border which led to an exchange of rocket fire between lebanon, hezbollah and its israel. Most of the people affected here are the civilians. People have looked for information about their family members, anything that they can get. Also as the Fallen Cam Rads were recovered by Police Officers here in the city of sderot where many of the massacres took place. Neil . Neil were hearing from hamas that they would like to enter in negotiations to deal with this. That has not gotten are response that hamas was thinking that they would get from israel. Can you explain . A source told fox news that qatari mediators have intervened. Theres dozens of civilians and soldiers taken in the gaza strip and now according to hamas being held in tunnels beneath gaza. Initially it looks like this could be some positive Development Amid this horrific story. The talks are not likely to succeed, this is not a deescalation. Israel is preparing for a ground water. The largest in years. Its a war that the United States and israels closest allies understands could easily spread quickly and draw in other players. So its something that israel has to brace for. You can see it in the population here. Theres no restaurants open, theres no bars open. People are in a state of war, theyre prepared for what is to come. If theyre not part of the group of 300,000 reservists called up to serve, theres volunteers going to hospitals, Restaurant Owners handing out food to soldiers and civilians. Everybody is playing a part here. They witnessed the horrific, horrific event that took place saturday morning. The slaughter of innocent civilians. The militants went house by House Killing who they could around burning down the homes that they couldnt reach. People hiding in their shelters. They went to a a Music Festival and moved down 260 people that were there listening to music. These are isis wanttobes. Theyre people that are looking to inflict the maximum amount of terror on the civilian population and according to israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, theres Palestinian Militants inside israeli territory tonight. Neil . Were learning that a number of hezbollah soldiers, terrorists were making their way from lebanon. Less hezbollah is very much a part of this. Yeah, something really important to talk about. We reported in this region for many years. Weve talked with top officials. We have interviewed Benjamin Netanyahu. I traveled to lebanon. Talked with officials there. The big concern from israel is the Lebanese Militant Group hezbollah. What we saw saturday is a massacre against innocent people. It was a shock to the israeli system. Something that was so unexpected that its described in the darkest day in israels history. The thousands of rocketing killing some civilians and causing destructions to the central part of this country. When you look at the weapons that hezbollah has, were talking about precision guided missiles that have been smuggled in from iran. They have thousands of different positions. According to classified intelligence that we have reviewed, in southern and central lebanon and all of those positions are aimed at israel. Israel does not have the Missile Defense capabilities to handle that many missiles and rockets that would be fired in to the you wish state in the event of a full scale war that includes whole involvement from the lebanon and the involvement of hezbollah. This is a calculation that Benjamin Netanyahu must make. It could be part of the reason that were seeing such strong actions by the American Government and the Aircraft Carrier headed closer to israel. Because theres an understanding if israel goes to war with gaza, hamas and Islamic Jihad in lebanon, hezbollah and the potential of other fronts upping up like syria and yemen, this could turn into a massacre of more unimaginable proportions than what weve seen. Neil i guess hamas has promised more of the same. Were on the wires indicating if israel were to continue attacking those sheltering in the gaza strip, it would respond by executing some of those captured israelis. The last count, were told 150 to 200 of them. Have you heard more about that . Yeah. Hamas tonight saying they will execute one israeli for every air strike that takes place against the civilian area in gaza without warning. This is a calculation again that israel must make. Dozens of their citizens are being held in the tunnels where hamas stores their weapons. Israel would traditionally hit. While were talking about gaza, i want to discuss the gaza strip. Weve been getting updated information from the Palestinian Health ministry. Theres around 600 deaths in gaza. Many of them civilians. Israel is making clear the Rules Of Engagement that they were adhering to before do not add ply given what took place in Southern Israel over the weekend. Its important to note this. Remember, the Population Density of gaza. Theres 1. 5 Million People 1. 9 Million People that live in gaza. The gaza strip is 25 miles long. Anywhere from three to seven miles wide. It will be incredibly difficult for Israeli Forces to operate inside there once they enter. This idea that has been discussed sometimes of rescuing these hostages as if it were a Hostage Situation in a bank, those people are not truly understanding the layout of the gaza strip. It will be incredibly difficult if not impossible to conduct operations like that inside gaza. Theres Tunnel Networks that go throughout the gaza strip. These captives are likely not all held in one location. They could be along the egyptian border, not just in gaza city but other cities. It is a challenge that is hard to wrap your mind around when it comes to a rescue operation. That is not what were hearing from israeli officials. They initial task is to make sure that Southern Israel is free of militants. If they recaptured their territory being held by jihad fighters. The Second Mission is to go in to gaza and destroy hamas. Thats where the focus is tonight in israel. Neil all right. I hope you focus on your own safety and your crews safety. Youve been remarkable, trey. Please be well and please be safe. Trey yingst in the middle of that. As trey was wrapping up there,er with hearing the u. S. Air Carrier Strike group is expected to arrive in the Eastern Mediterranean waters. We would support more on this with the ambassador. Good to have you here. This escalates and the israelly people are prepared for that. This seems to spread further than amass along gaza. Now what appears to be hezbollah in lebanon and coming from lebanon. It was a cord ord nated or appears coordinated twopronged attack. What do you make of that . So we are currently focused on fighting the war with hamas in gaza. We have to fight and win it. Were watching carefully what is happening in other fronts. We take into consideration that other members of the iranian axis might want to join as was mentioned by your reporter. Theres some friction around the israeli and lebanese border an an infiltration of terrorists in our territory. Im not sure in theyre members of hezbollah, probably another group. In any case, we dont believe that an armed group will infull strait, Cross The Border from lebanon to israel without green light from hezbollah. So we hold them accountable. We do not seek confrontation with hezbollah. But we will not be deterred. If were attacked or provoked, we will response in that front. Neil ambassador, weve gotten a message from turkey. Theyve been calling on hamas and israel to immediately end violence to protect civilians. They would further work to that part to make that happen. What do you think of that . So we are at war and we have to fight that war. Right now talking about cease fire is not in place. Its like telling the American Leadership to examine cease fire on 912. Weve just been attacked. Hundreds of israelis were massacred, this is a brutal attack by a Terror Organization and we have to destroy that war machine. We will not stop until we destroy it. So talk about cease fire are not in place right now. Neil you mentioned 911 and what we would do the day after. It would be inconceivable we would entertain such take. These attacks were crude at their core. The use of commercial planes against the United States. In this case, paragliders and the like, very crude that flew under your radar. What do you think of that, that there was little preparation for an attack like this even though we hear separately that i believe egypt among those saying this was a possibility. Can you enlighten us . Theres a claim as if the head of the Egyptian Government called us to warn us. We were fold it was fake news. Yes, there was an element of surprise. We will investigate it after the war. There will be time to understand whathappened. Right now were at war. Were talking about hamas. They employs methods of isis, including with hostages. We have to treat them like we treat isis. Neil ambassador, hamas has had effective control over gaza for better part of 16, 17 years. Theres been four incursions. Some call them wars since then. Are the days of hamas in control of this region, even having any significant influence in this region over . No matter what happens. However this is resolved that hamas will no longer be in charge, period . So hamas has been in charge hoff gaza for the last 16 years. Let me remind our listeners that they took over in 2007. Theyve been in charge since then. As we all know, rather than prioritizing the wellbeing of the cities, they put their money in building rockets, Digging Tunnels and attacking israel. The two million civilians living in gaza was subjected by them to poor conditions because they prioritize the weapons and fighting israel. We, as i said, are determined to destroy the hamas war machine so we will stop deterrence and not think about waging war against the state of israel. It is critical that they and the partners and the members of socalled iranianled resistant axis will emerge out of this war with a clear conclusion that it will a mistake to start the war with the state of israel. This is critical. Neil ambassador, were learning from the Saudi Arabiian crown prince and he stressed this to the palestinian president , that the kingdom will continue to stand by the palestinians and will spare no effort to restore calm and stability to the palestinian territories. What do you make of that . So look, we as hamas wage war on us, were in the middle of a concerted effort, israel and the u. S. Government, to break through to saudi arabia and expand the circle of peace and normalization. We want to expand the Abraham Accords and include saudi arabia. We believe these efforts were undermined. Let me remind everybody, were talking about a palestinian component to this peace effort, which will benefit the palestinian people. So whoever talks about the palestinians who remember that hamas is not only the enemy of the u. S. And israel, hamas is the enemy of the palestinian authority. They want to topple them and take over. Theyre concerned about a possible deal to benefit the palestinian people. We have to prove them wrong. Neil ambassador, the president put a lid on all further appearances a little after lunch time in the United States. We have not heard from him on this today. What do you think of that . Well, we have been in close touch with the administration. The administration han been very supportive of our right to selfdefense and the needs of our war. Condemning the aggressive actions by hamas, waging war on the state of israel. Im sure that that close contact will continue. Theres been two phone calls between our leaders and im sure more to come. He is the president of the American People. Im not asking him to weighin on our Foreign Policy and our leaders. Nine americans have been killed. We do know of 900 now israelis including Many Americans that were among those killed. Theres a good number that have been kidnapped and not a word. If Benjamin Netanyahu did that in israel, would that alarm you . Well, i dont go into internal American Affairs or comment on the way that the administration talks or doesnt talk about hostages. This is a sensitive issue as we can all understand. I will say were in the process of forming a picture of how many people exactly were kidnapped, how many were held by hamas, how many are alive, how many are dead. Who exactly are they, how Many Americans. Were in close contact with the u. S. Administration about this. When we hear right now that the Prime Minister is saying this will expand, preparing the israeli people for a war that could last for some time, how do you Character Size for Something Like that . For as long as we need. As i said, we are determined to destroy, to crush the hamas war machine so that they cannot threaten us once again. You have to understand, this is not one more round of this is an allout war. What they did to us, as i said, its like our 911 in a way with the different ways to compare. In relative numbers, nearly 1,000 israeli fatalities. In american terms, it would amount to 35,000 to 40,000 americans. Thats ten times 911. So we have to respond. We have to crush the war machine. It may take some time, but it takes what it takes. This is a war and we have to fight it and we have to win it. This is critical. Theres no other way, this is important not only for us and israel but for the free world as well. Neil ambassador, youve been patient. I appreciate it. Theres been global condemnation of this hamas attack. But not without a caveat saying now its up to israel and hamas to essentially settle this. Youve seen this before when israel is attacked, nothing like, this i grant you, but the good will of whatever you want to call it, ambassador, lasts about a week. The theres the second guessing israel is going too far. The response is just proportionate to the attack. Are you ready for that . Is israel prepared for what is already transpiring today . Even at the United Nations. The response should be measured and other Global Leaders say israel has an obligation not to go too far. That is a pattern. Are you worried about that . Youre right in saying right now theres a Broad International support for israel condemnation to hamas and our right to selfdefense. At the same time, were all experienced and we know that time may come where people will start saying, you know, its about time to go for a cease fair and so on. As i said, this is a brutal enemy. Isis like enemy and we have to crush it. To everybody who says to us, will say to us, you know, its time to lay your weapons, i say you never said that about isis. Dont say the same thing about hamas, this is a brutal enemy. We wont stop until we destroy their war machine. If we dont, it will be worse. Everybody has to understand that. Neil all right, ambassador. Thanks very much. Be well, be strong. Michael herzog, the israeli ambassador to the United States. We mentioned the president of the United States. Hes not made a personal statement. Hes released one. We know 11 american citizens were among those killed. Many made a second home in israel. For american citizens currently in israel, the State Department is providing assistance and updated Security Alerts for those that desire to leave commercial flights and Ground Options are still available. Please take sensible precautions in the days head. I want to go to jennifer griffin, the Fox News National security respondent. Jennifer . The u. S. Has reached out to u. S. Defense industries to accelerate existing contracts for Weapon Shipments to israel. The u. S. S. Gerald r. Ford has been ordered to the area in a loud message of deterrence to iran and their proxies. This includes the navys newest and most advanced Aircraft Carrier the u. S. S. Gerald ford as well at a guided missile destroyer. The u. S. S. Thomas hudner, u. S. S. Roosevelt and u. S. S. Carney. Air force f15, f16 and a10 fighter squadrons. The iranians have gotten the message after u. S. F35s Arrived Baugh the irgc paused their attempts to seize oil tankers after that. Near iran is the baton amphibious ready group, which includes the u. S. S. Baton, dock landing ship, u. S. S. Carter haul and the 26 Marine Expeditionary unit. Theres concern that troops will be targeted in iraq and syria. The unis has 900 in syria and 2,500 in iraq. Theres an air base in qatar and a naval base in bahrain. Home to the u. S. Central forces central command. Iranian backed Malitias Have challenged u. S. Forces in syria this year. The forces worry they will be asked to do more. The Military Leaders remain in close contact with counter parts and the u. S. Will announce more support for israel in the coming days. The u. S. Has pro positioned 2 billion of weapons in israel. The u. S. Will use repositioned weapon to assist israel. To date the u. S. Has provided 158 billion to israel since its founding in 1948. The u. S. Helped build israel i iron dome Missile System which has been intercepted missiles fired from hamas and right now the u. S. Is without an ambassador to israel. Jack lu is the president s nominee but hes nomination has been held up in congress. Senior Administration Officials say the lack of a House Speaker could impact the ablepy to send more u. S. Support quickly to israel. Neil . Neil jennifer, since you handle National Security and do so very well and wellconnected, part of the president s statement earlier say that the department of Homeland Security and other Law Enforcement partners are closely monitoring for any domestic threats with connection to the attacks in israel. Over the weekend, a new York Police Department had communicationed much the same. Theyre coordinating and watching for any type of activity that might draw imitate ires here or planned action here. Do you hear or get hinteds of any of that . I have not heard about any concern. Here at the defense department, theyre focused on what weapons and projecting power and forced power in to the region. What i can tell you, from a Homeland Security point of view, protecting synagogues right now, whether theres any Sleeper Cells that might try to carry out a second wave of attacks. We have not heard that. But certainly any Law Enforcement agency would be on the look out and lean in and add security at synagogues and other places that might be tar getting if iranian proxy groups or palestinian Affiliated Hamas cells were to try in sort of attack here in the u. S. The real concern is in the region and how this potentially could spread to other countries in the region. If hezbollah is ordered by iran to get involved and fire rockets in to israel, if you look at hezbollahs leadership, they probably dont want to get involved. They have thousands of rockets to rain in on israel at any moment. Its clear that theyre tip toeing and pressuring Israel A Little Bit at the north but they have not decided to get involved yet. Could that change . There that change . Thats what u. S. Central command is washing be and thats why the u. S. S. Ford has been sent to deter hezbollah and iran from trying to spread this conflict. Let me mention one other thing that is significant. Theres great concern in the capitols of arab country that have made peace with israel that the reaction on the arab street is very positive unfortunately to the hamas attacks inside israel. Palestinians and arab armies have never been able to fight that deep in to israel. So theres a sense that the anger in the street could boil over, that some of the refugees in some hoff the camps and so many of the bordering countries could storm back in to israel. Theres so much potential destabilizing outcomes from this hamas attack. A great fear of it spreading and destabilizing other regime allies in the region. Neil which could explain the tepid response from saudi arabia saying the obligation falls on israel to settle this. Thanks, jennifer griffin, following those developments. I want to explore that more with Lieutenant General jerry boykin, the former deputy under secretary of defense, former delta information commander. General, this is just started. Were 72 hours or so in to this. I did want to get your take on what jennifer just touched on in the end. This is actually a rallying cry for many in the arab world, especially those that like at hamas as david against goliath and pulling off this tragedy to them that seems like a victory. Yeah, it does, neil. Its very disappointing that we dont see more support coming out of some of the arab countries, particularly those in the Abraham Accords that have agreed to cooperate with israel in the event of an attack what we are seeing is what we should have expected from them. That is that they still have a deep, deep hatred for israel. And i dont think that that is something that they can get over in any time soon. Neil general, what do you think hamas pulled off . Screwedly, a apparently unbe knowned to top intelligence officials. Plenty of time to examine that after we did with 91 within. To what end . Hamas had to know the response would be ten fold, 100 fold. It will probably be just that. 50 years ago, the arab world united behind what was going on. Rallied against the United States and other western powers, started the oil embargo itself that would lead to the long gas lines that we remember from 1973 and the global recession that would follow. They had to weigh all of that, right . They did. They did. I think we need to understand that when they decided that they were going to do this, they probably did more reconnaissance, more precise rehearsals and everything it takes to do something that is this complex. This was a complex operation. I believe that you said it, you just said it. That is, while people say well, they want to destroy israel. Well, they cant. Unless they have a nuclear weapon, they cant. Because they fought against five nations at a time at least there one war that they fought. The israelis, that is. So i think what they wanted to do is what you just said. They want to polarize the arab world against all things israel. I dont think that they have any notion that they can destroy israel. People keep saying that. But how would they do that and what would they do that . Ill say this as the last thing. Everybody to include or president , if in fact he asked for moderation and proportionality or whatever terms he uses, is the dead wrong approach to this. Because if they dont clean this place out, the hamas People Living in gaza, if they dont clean that out now, theyll get it again but have the advantage of knowing what some of the techniques that they could use will do and how successful they were in this. That is a leg up for them. Neil you know, general, youre very good at the psychology of war itself and figuring out the intent of people that wish us ill. I wonder what you read in to when we with Drew Haphazardly from afghanistan to say nothing of the fight internally were going through now on defense spending, ukraine, et cetera. How much does that weigh into our enemys thought in to whether we dont have the stomach for this thing or am i overreading that . I dont think youre overreading it at all. I think probably with the withdrawal from afghanistan had a Significant Impact on the ultimate decision to do this. I think that they see us as being weak, having weak leadership and not being willing to stand up to those who have openly threatened us and in fact the iranians in particular, that have openly said at the United Nations that they would destroy america, too. So i think that youre right on in that regard. Neil all right. So when the president talks about, general, you know, why stand behind, you know, israel and well do whatever it takes, obviously hes saying we will stand behind them militarily and i assume provide the same support we do, but im wondering what it could mean Going Forward whether more will be called on us president than in the past. Yeah. Listen, the president says that he stand with israel. Its unequivocal. But look at the fact that when he first came in to office, the first thing he did was he helped the enemies of israel, the one nation that may actually have the methodology and the technology to be able to truly destroy israel and that would be with a nuclear weapon, which i certainly hope and pray that that is not ever going to be seen again. But i think that the fact that hes he has not recognized yet just how dangerous iran is and has played in to their hands and here we are i dont believe that the money, the 6 billion was the final motivation for them doing this. We know that they actually havent within drawn any. I will also say that were not stupid as American People. We can figure this out for ourself. That is regardless of whether they gave them any money ahead of time, if they promised them money out of this money that was released to them as a result of our Foreign Policy on that, i think that they could do this and still sometime in the future draw on that money. I dont think we have any real method of stopping them without going back on a promise that we made. Neil general, you think the israelis were caught off guard for this type of attack . They have this dome, this sophistication to knock missiles out of the sky. They werent pride for crude soldiers and gliders and many on motorcycles and mopeds right on the ground. Neil, i dont think i ever talked to you about this. I lived over there with the Golani Brigade for a long time and i worked with the intel organizations. They were first rate. They were the best Intel Service probably in the world. We were right behind them. I believe that what has occurred here i was appalled when i saw that this had happened and they had no forewarning at all. I believe that what has happened and i talked to a group of jewish people last night about this. They all agreed. The internal turmoil in their government with netanyahu and others that have been in some pretty nasty disagreements, i think that that internal turmoil caused the israelis to take their eye off of the ball. When they took their eye off of the ball, you dont get a redo on that. I think thats why they missed it. They have Human Intelligence all over israel. They have Human Intelligence in the surrounding countries. Its better than any i have ever seen. They took their eye off of the ball and paying for it now. God bless them. Theyll win this but at a great cost. They are going in for a ground war. They have to. Neil that would appear to be the case. Thanks, general boykin. The former secretary of defense. Were going to take a quick break here. I want to draw your attention to the corner of wall and broad up on this day. Up 200 points. That despite a runup in oil prices. It wasnt the runup that some had feared harkening back to the 50year anniversary of the yom kippur war. Oil prices advanced, but nothing like they did back then. The precursor is a steady rise in oil prices as they rose about 300 from the start of that war to the end of what would be the oil embargo. A lot of you can go back to that period of time and remember 1973, the long gas lines. Oil was tight to fined anywhere on the planet. That was 1973. Again, it will the arab worlds response to the u. S. And other western nations support of israel. They were united back then. They are anything but today. But eerily not a one arab nation was rallying around israel. Not a one. Stay with us. The house cant vote on it because theres no speaker. So you cant do any of that unless you have a speaker. Chad pergram on the separate drama that is complicating things. Chad . Neil, good afternoon. No speaker at the time of an International Crisis put the house in peril. It jeopardizes house secured. The house cannot aid israel unless theres a speaker, no votes, no nothing. That could accelerate the election of a new speaker. To those that thought it was a good idea to throw over the speaker, please reevaluate. It was near the gaza it was not a good idea. I hope those that created this chaos in the house understand that chaos in American Politics emboldened the bad guys. The formal candidates for speaker are jim jordan and Steve Scalise. Some are saying return to gavel to mccarthy. The former speaker is not officially running. He would not be talking so much about israel if he did not eye an opportunity. We should have a resolution on the floor condemning what is taking place for the rest of the world to understand. We should supply and make sure that theres no question and no doubt that israel will never be overwhelmed when it comes to ammunition. If they decide to send the prec precisionguided missiles, they will be knocked down. Mccarthy says the house must investigate why u. S. Intelligence failed to know about the pending attacks. Lawmakers are rattled theres notice speaker. Last week was unprecedented. So i think for anybody to just declare thats not possible, obviously anything is possible in this place. I think when i have spoke to my colleagues, the vast majority of people are angry. As i said, its the single most destructive things in politics and doesnt make sense. The house is not expected to tap jordan or scalise and doubt that they pick a speak they are week. The gop wants to keep the fight off the floor until republicans can setting on someone that can win. Neil im curious. For scalise and jordan that backed Kevin Mccarthy and now he seems to be hinting of interest for his old job, what do they do . This is going to muttle this. They have a meeting at 6 00. Theyre going to air it out. I was told this is the airing of grievances. Theres a lot of angry members. Mccarthy loyalists that are upset he was kicked out. You have Steve Scalise and jim jordan trying to make their case. Neither one of them, neither Steve Scalise or jim jordan has anywhere within the same universe of votes that they need to win on the floor. In this respect right now, neil, its almost like Kevin Mccarthy might be the spoiler. Neil so let me ask you about that. If there were a vote now and now you have two more congressmen apparently here this week then who were not here last week that could change the math a little bit, your thoughts. Yeah, keep in mind that theyre going to go Behind Closed Doors wednesday and vote in the conference. The number there will be lower. You need to get to 216 on the floor if all 433 members of the house vote. So theres a chasm there. I talked to one member today that said if Kevin Mccarthy were in the race and this is an organic push to get Kevin Mccarthy back in, he probably gets close to 200 votes if not more out of the gate. Neil wow. All right, chad. Thank you for that. So what happens in that event . Lets go to tony gonzalez, the texas republican kind enough to join us. Where would you go with a choice like that . I know you have been backing Steve Scalise. Then along comes Kevin Mccarthy to say about this race. What do you think . You know, neil, the time for division among House Republicans is over. The world is watching what is going to happen is on wednesday, were going to vote in our conference who the next speakser will be. I suspect that will be Steve Scalise. We need to unite behind that happy warrior. I thought last week Kevin Mccarthy did the right thing by stepping aside understanding that the division that had been created and the chaos that has been here on the capitol needed to end. Steve scalise is that happy conservative warrior that can unite us all. Were dealing with difficult issues across the world and also here in the United States as well. I remind your audience, when Steve Scalise was shot and left for dead on the baseball field, he never gave up. He always came back stronger. When cancer destroyed to destroy his body, hes never given up. Hes the type of person that folks will unite behind. I urge all of my colleagues to come to the floor wednesday and cath their vote for Steve Scalise. Neil youre right. Kevin mccarthy did step aside. But it looks today, congressman, youre a lot closer that he just stepped back. He just said hes not a candidate. You know, i dont suspect that hes going to throw his name in the hat. Right now we have two candidates, jim jordan Steve Scalise. To me its very clear that the members are supporting Steve Scalise for a variety of reasons. One being the southern border. 11 americans killed in israel. This is real. I spent 20 years in the military, five years in iraq and afghanistan. Theres people all over the world that hate us because were americans. Theres been 300 people that have come over illegally through our certain border on the terrorist watch list. We have real issues to deal with here in america. Steve scalise has proven time and time again asthma yourety yourety as Majority Whip and lead tore bring us back together and make us wholed again to get back to doing the peoples work. Congressman, you think the developments in israel have changed this whole thinking about the speakership, that it took one vote to vacate the chair and that that has to change and this proves we live in a world where this kind of thing cant be tolerated . So if its going to be Kevin Mccarthy or Steve Scalise or jim jordan, but the dynamics have changed markedly . I do. I will remind your audience, i was the only no vote on the rules package in the 118th congress because we had one person could create this chaotic event. Members are done with that we want to get back to some sense of normalcy. Have the ability to hold our house leadership accountable. But one person to vacate the chair, weve seen the chaos that is created. Youll see that get changed. Theres an urgency. The Intelligence Community did not see this coming. I worry we have to protect americans abroad. What about americans here . Hour southern border is wide open. We know the dangers that are happening. Now is not the time to play division politics. Now is the time for House Republicans to unite and work with the administration to solve real problems like solving like securing our southern border and delivering for the american public. Enough with the games. This is real world thing happening. Americans are dying. Americans are in captivity. Now is the time for House Republicans to come together and unit behind Steve Scalise. Neil Congressman Gonzalez,s that for taking the time and thanks for your service. Fair and balanced now. The view from the other side of the aisle, the maryland democrat joins us right now. Sits on the house Homeland Security committee. Congressman ivey, what do you think of what he said there, the whole israel tragedy is a gamechanger. Not only for israel and The Middle East but maybe for the u. S. Congress and how it deals with this speaker situation. I certainly hope it accelerates that. The republicans decided to go out of session last week, wednesday, instead of sticking around and moving forward with a decision about trying to find the next speaker. Were here now. The goal as Congressman Gonzalez said, we need to find ways to get the position back and then move Forward Together in a way that, you know, the United States is providing israel with the support it needs right now to get through this crisis. Neil would that mean if things have changed since what happened in israel that democrats aCross The Border, unanimously voted against Kevin Mccarthy or certainly not to see him named speaker again, that one or two or maybe more could change . The environment has changed so a couple of your colleagues, maybe yourself, sir, would vote for him or vote for any of the others that the republicans put forward . Well, you know, working together means that unlike the last time around, if the republicans need support from the democrats, they might want to reach out to us in advance of the vote. Neil would it have helped back then . It seemed clear that none of your colleagues were keen on helping Kevin Mccarthy. Yeah, you know, i dont think thats right. Neil none of them did. Yeah. What happened during that time period was the democrats certainly did help Kevin Mccarthy get the bill done so we could avert the government shut down, the very next day, Kevin Mccarthy Goes On Television and says that the democrats she en essentially pushing for a shut down. Stefanik said the same thing on another channel. That neil that stuck in your crawl. That was then. You dont see things changing now . Im sorry. I want to be clear where you come from on this. Hopefully they will be willing to reach out to us this time around and see if he can work with us. Hakeem jeffries just wrote an oped in the Washington Post that raised that possibility. You know, were open to that. Whoever they pick, we want to find Common Ground in a time of crisis like this. Neil congressman, thanks very much. We want to switch to the United States senate. Mark wayne mullen joins us, the oklahoma republican. What he makes of this drama on the other side of that building. Senator, the notion of a Kevin Mccarthy coming back and maybe whoever is going to be the next speaker, getting democratic support. What do you think of that possibility and that it was changed by what happened maybe in israel . Well, neil, its a Good Opportunity for these eight to right their wrong. They did something unprecedented to vote to oust the republican speaker. We all make mistakes in life. The best lesson is to learn when you made a mistake. They made a horrific mistake. Neil israel has raised our commitment to israel in the face of this war with hamas and who knows who else. It comes at a time when youre thinking foreign aid in general. Ukraine comes to mind right now. What to you make of the american commitment to take on our enemies . Some interpret enemies differently than others, i grant you. What do you think . Make no mistake about it, our enemies, theyre testing our resolve right now. The alliance between north korea, russia, iran and china is real. Theyre testing to see if were going to stand by our allies and keep our word. In ukraine, we gave our word to ukraine with the budapest memorandum. If they get invadeand give all their Nuclear Weapons we would be them for them. Without question, israel is our best ally in The Middle East. We have said that over and over again. Theyre testing our resolve. Dont think for a second that hamas isnt funded completely by iran. The weapons that theyre using have come from iran. The weapons that iran have given them have come from north korea. Then you have china that is constantly checking our resolve throughout the economic downturn, throughout the world, theyre checking our reserve to see if well be there for our allies and plus constantly threatening taiwan. Theyre testing to see what the American People will do. We have to stand strong, period. Regardless in its in ukraine, in taiwan or if its in israel. Neil theres many of your conservative members im not saying all of them that say enough is enough. Many of the president ial candidates themselves on the republican side have been echoing that. Does that worry you . It does. I talked to people, even my own colleagues all the time. Even today, that just arent aware of the budapest men memorandum. I tell people, were only as good as our word. If i shake my hand and i tell somebody i was going to be there for them,ly be there for you. Thats the same thing with america. America had said we would be there for ukraine. I dont think a lot of these individuals that are saying that we shouldnt be theyre saying now we shouldnt be funding ukraine. These same individuals will say we need to be funding israel. I fully agree with that. We still gave our word to ukraine and we have to honor that word. Neil senator. A lot we dont know and exactly where this goes next, what we know is that it set off a powder keg of protests here in midtown, manhattan where those protesting on behalf of the palestinians and those on behalf of israel are making it clear. Free countries can do this sort of thing. It is we embrace it but the message it sends sometimes can confuse that world and confuse those who love freedom. They still love it and the debate still rages. Here is the five. Hello
