This is the ingraham angle from washington tonight. It is staggering to believe yesterday for the second time in the last few months an individual was planning to v. A. Sass sin nate president trump. Now tonight we are going to cover this entire story and its political ramifications for sure. We want to emphasize that these attacks on president trump represent a major threat to the american system. Now, when he was shot in pennsylvania, i warned the night of the attempt on his life, that the entire system that we have gotten accustomed to loving and protecting will be disrupted unless the government was 100 percent transparent and expeditious in releasing all of its findings and its recommendations. That did not happen. Now we face the fallout of another attempted shooting. My angle in moments. First, let's starts with what we know about this suspect. Fox news david spunt is standing by live with all the details. David, what can you tell us. Ryan routh is facing two federal firearm charges. Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated or scratched off serial number. Cell phone records place him at the scene from 1:59 a. M. Sunday morning to 1:30 p. M. Almost 12 hours the acting secret service director held a news conference a few hours ago and said it may be time to change the protective playbook of the agency. Watch. We're getting the secret service where it needs to be. And i'm confident that we will achieve that. Because we don't have alternative. Success, we have to have it every day. We cannot have failures. And in order to do that, we're going to have some hard conversations with congress. About funding director roe says need to look protected methodology. Reactive model and get to a readiness model. Another geopolitical event put the united states in some sort of conflict where the u. S. Needs to have additional responsibility. Fbi investigators are looking through ryan routh's cell phone. His go procamera found on the scene and also his car. Fbi agents where he is from and hawaii where he lives they are talking to his family, his friends, his colleagues, the fbi says it does not appear anyone else was involved in his plans. According to our producer in federal court today routh was laughing, looking around while talking to his public defender. He told the judge he understands the charges and i'm told that more charges are possible from the doj because these charges were enough for the government to get in order to keep him in custody. We are told high level discussions to add more charges. Again, these were the quickest charges to write up. The secret service director and also a rank and file agent i spoke to praising the agent that was there a whole head ahead president trump saw a muzzle sticking gun sticking out of the burbs and alerted him to the entire thing. Laura. Laura: david, thanks so much. Last time the initial excuse was the sloped roof that kept the secret service from seeing the shooter? what was it this time? the golf course is surrounded by shrubbery. When somebody gets into the subry they are out of sight. Dang shrubbery. Sign in the entrance gate and wait for president trump to take out his putter? thank god as david just said, an agent spotted the barrel of the gun sticking out of the bushes. What if he hadn't? and then there was this admission. They don't have the man tower he is not the sitting president if he was we would have had the entire golf course surrounded. Because he is not. Numbers secret service is deemed possible. Laura: why hasn't he been given the proper number of agents. We are told golfing in the open is unsafe until and unless he wins the presidency. I would imagine the next time he comes to the golf course, it will probably be a little more people around the perimeter. Laura: how comforting. There will be more people around him. Once again, trump's life was in jeopardy because of complete failure to secure the area surrounding him. So we have a lot of questions tonight. Joining us now chris swecker, former fbi assistant director and frank love rich. Special agent in charge. Frank, let's start with you this video of president trump golfing was taken six years ago and you can see many photographers since have gotten similar photos and video through the trees. Isn't this an vulnerability and couldn't it have been raised before. Laura, thanks for having me on. You are absolutely right. What the way it works. Protective operations and i have been out there. Andrew force base golf abouting. Spriggss team going out in advance. You have the detail and the shift that's with the president and other tactics tackle teams as well and you have a team behind you. A team in tandem to move with him to make sure there is nothing on the other side of that fence or shrubbery, as well as that he was there for 12 hours according to the reports today. He may not have been in the shrubbery for 12 hours. He was in the area. Why wasn't he detected by a team that was doing a sweep? was there a sweep completed and did they just miss him? laura: chris, i want to play something that the acting director of the secret service ronald rowe said about the protective methodologies of the secret service watcher. The subject who did not have line of sight to the former president fled the scene. Did he not fire or get off any shots at our agent with reports of gunfire the president's detail immediately evacuated the president to a safe location. The protective methodologies of the secret service were effective yesterday. Laura: chris, thoughts about that? it was an effective series of methodologies. Yeah. Every time the acting director goes on and sorts of lectures us about how effective their methodologies are. I think a lot of people get more and more skeptical and i will tell you why in this cases one alert again, one alert secret service agent that did the right thing and took the shot. But, if this is not a resource problem. You know, he said they had all the resources they needed out there. I don't think it's a resource problem. They can reprogram resources from investigations over to protection. Because less than half of their budget is devoted towards protection catching up with today's methodologies that are much more proactive and he pointed that out. He blamed it on lack of resources. That's a copout. Agencies had deal with lack of resources or not enough resources all the time. Got to prioritize your resources and put them where they are needed the most. Especially if your core mission is protection that's where your resources need to go. Laura: frank, when you look at the i know this area well. I have been to this club a number of times. It seems to me that it's fairly obvious that if it's not a wall, it's going to have a porous perimeter. And it would seem, again perimeter where the former president is, it wasn't effective. It's not the landscaper's faults or trump's fault. This is a break down once again in the basic mission of the secret service. In this press conference today, i was just outraged by it. Patting each other on the back going you did this and we did this and he saw. This thank god we did see the muzzle, but, that guy should never have gotten in those bushes. Laura, he was 300 yards to 500 yards away from the president. Now, as the president progressed forward he would have been even closer. Whole thing comes down to this. Did they treat this as an offtherecord movement? that's one of the things we do. We have offtherecord movements. Impromptu movements and also have on the record movements. Offtherecord movements we don't tell anyone we are going there. Through predictive analysis. This individual could have easily thought it's sunday afternoon. President trump is going to be on the golf course. This should have been treated with all the resources. They should have been out there and we didn't have the right resources there. There was nobody on that perimeter walking around that would have spotted the assailant and this would have never have happened. Gotten him before he got into this tree line. Laura: a simple question, chris. How many agents does kamala harris have with her how many does trump have women. Same number? is that relevant given different movements? she doesn't seem to go out in as many crowds as he does, i don't think. Certainly doesn't golf those are basic questions. I don't believe we have the answers to those and this is the second attempt on his life. Yeah. We will never be given those numbers. They might give them to congress in closed session i will say this. It's not a resource issue. This is a methodology issue. It's a mindset. It's a leadership issue. And until we start looking at that, i'm not sure we are going to see a whole lot of change. I would go after the fbi in the same manner. You know, it's a leadership issue. The issues that we dealt with at the bureau. I don't like criticizing federal agencies, but the mindset has to change. I mean, this is 2024 and things are very different than they were 20 years ago. Laura: i mean some nut bag guy is able to hide in bushes for 11 hours, bring a couple of backpacks, a long range weapon. And he could have gotten a shot off look, he didn't have the former president in his sights. That's supposed to make us feel better. I mean, frank, one word, does that make you feel better that he didn't have him exactly in his sights and then he was chased off? no, it does not. It does not, laura. The other thing you have to remember, too. Did we have the assets we needed there? did we have a helicopter with munts men did, we have flare for infrared systems involved. We could have pointed this person out. Was there drones flying in the area that would have picked this person up. This is all the assets the president of the united states gets. I was on the president's detail. I felt very much in line with the fact whatever i asked for i was going to get. President trump needs that. There is more of a threat against president trump woe just had an individual on july 12th that was arrested. And a pakistani national with ties to iran. And there's more threats come out against president trump as well. And we just have to address the threat. Laura: we got to get answers to all these questions. Chris and frank, really, really appreciate your input tonight. Thank you. Come up, my angle reveals the truth about the democrats 7' rhetoric over the past months. Is he not only unfit, is he destructive to our democracy. And he has to be he has to be eliminated. Let me know who i got to vote for to keep hitler out of the white house. Took to social media and highlighted language from nazi, germany. This kind of rhetoric is unsurprising coming from the former president and it is appalling. Laura: well, the angle warned about their rhetoric, echoing throughout the media. If is he a dictator in waiting. If he is an autocrat, they done called him hitler. Of course they will are going to justify doing anything to stop hitler to beat hitler. Anything. Indeed liz cheney herself have signaled that patriots need to step up and ensure that trump didn't ever get near the white house again. I will do whatever it takes to ensure donald trump is never again anywhere near the oval office and i mean it. The most important thing is to make sure donald trump is nowhere near the oval office ever again. That commitment remains. [applause] so i'm going to do whatever i need to do to make sure that that's the case. Laura: whatever it takes. What does she mean by that? well, clearly the accused gunman was on board with that message. He had marinaded for years in the most vicious antitrump rhetoric that has become increasingly accepted on the left since i really think starting in 2015. Now, obviously, ryan wesley routh hasn't been convinced that the debate ended trump's chances. So it seems like he had to take matters into his own hands. I would think this guy was extremely motivated and probably spurred on by most of the political diatribes going on these days talking about trump, equating him to hitler and things like this. I don't think this is the last we will see of crazies out there doing this. Laura: well, americans, i don't think want to believe that leaders in our government are asleep at the switch or even worse purposefully under estimating or stoking or even allowing real attempts on trump's life. But now there have been two incidents. Now, if someone is allowed to get near president trump with a gun, it will be hard to put humpty dumpty back together again. Meaning our faith in the government. And it brings to mind an old ian fleming quote from the book gold finger. Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action. Now, it's gotten so bad that a sitting u. S. Senator is publicly expressing his deep reservations about the federal response. Utah senator mike lee wrote on x: thank you, governor desantis, for investigating the attempted assassination of donald trump in florida. We can't trust the feds but we trust you. Well, lee is 100 percent justified in feeling this way. Think about this. Think about how little we know two months later about the first shooter, thomas crooks. He was killed by a sniper after he managed to gets off his own shots at donald trump. But, we know so little about him. It's like we don't even talk about it anymore. Anyone else find that odd? is it unreasonable at this point for millions of americans to believe that the investigation is being slow walked? or maybe purposefully stalled or information purposefully withhold? now, as i said on the night of july 13th, just hours after trump was grazed by that bullet, in the absence of information, conspiracy theories continue to run wild. And rather than pushing for more information, demanding answers, our corporate media, well, it just makes matters worse. They will ignore, they will down play the danger posed by crazed leftists, claiming that even if the wannabe killers are repeating antitrump mantras, that doesn't mean it's in any way connected to kamala harris. We don't know much about this guy yet at all. Other than he was somebody who was trying to find a way in his mid to late 50's go and serve on the front lines of ukraine and he obviously had some antitrump posts. But, that has nothing to do with kamala harris and joe biden it. Has to do with the fact that this is his political belief. Laura: now, why is it, dana bash's job to try to defend the harriswalz campaign here? she crashed and burned when she tried to debate j. D. Vance over the weekend. This was even worse. So, isn't she i think, supposed to be an objective anchor who is supposed to figure out the truth? maybe ask the harris campaign if they would like to reconsider how they answered this question after the first assassination attempt. How is the rhetoric changed in light of the assassination attempt with being here at the rnc and representing the dnc and bidenharris administration. It hasn't changed. Laura: it hasn't changed. Trump is still a dictator in waiting. It was disappointing but not surprising. Then we heard at the dnc and at the debate kamala harris insisted that she would reach out and try to bring the country together. We are charting a new way forward. We are all in this together. In unity there is strength. It is important that we move forward, that we turn the page on this same old tired rhetoric and address the needs of the american people. Laura: but saturday all we got from her was a tepid, rather generic sounding statement released on social media. Well, today who has little better political judgment than harris was a little more emphatic underline a little bit. Let me just say there is no and i mean this from the bottom of my heart those of you who know me. No place for political violence in america. None. Zero. Never. [applause] i have always condemned political violence. I always will in america. In america we resolve our difference peacefully at the ballot box not at the end of a gun. Laura: but none of this is enough. After all a year ago biden himself was taking the temperature up. Allowing the doj go wild and after trump. All this stuff president trump and dark brandon and still biden is out. Haters i think she is still making the same mistake he did. Maga forces are determined to take this country backwards. They promote authoritarian leaders and they fan the flames of political violence. That are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, to the rule of law. To the very soul of this country. Laura: now, how sick is that looking back? trump was fanning the flames of violence? where exactly at the prohamas protest or was he doing that after the george floyd or justice kavanaugh's home? i was thinking about this today. If harris and biden really want to end the conspiracy theories bring the country together, all this unity stuff. Harris needs to make a much more vigorous stance here. And do you know what would speak volumes? why not invite former president trump to the white house could all meet in the oval, an executive decision has been made to ensure that donald trump has all the protection he would have if he were a sitting president of the united states. S the up shot from biden and harris would be be we are all americans. If you attack one of us, you attack all of us. There are 45 people who have held the office of presidency, trump is one of them. He and all americans need to know that we are 100 percent committed to ensuring his safety and his security. His running mate is vice president harris and walz, all of them must be safe. Maybe at times say our rhetoric has got too heated. Bee should tone that down, too. And of course say we are going to be totally transparent. Expedite all investigations with factual conclusions not political conclusions and recommendations that are clear and accountability that is just unquestionable. Nowrges we're not going to do this in months. We're going to do this in weeks. And why not say this is america, the voters must be the ones who determine the outcome in november. Not an assassin's bullet, period. Now, given that the also have to dial back their own trump is a dictator nonsense this probably won't happen. But it should both sides can make it about the issues but it's not just the election that's at stake here. How this moment is handled effects the credibility of the entire u. S. So, we have a problem here to say the least. And i think it's time for secret service to tell us what is going on. Why all of these failings, and what are they going to do about it? laura: we hear we have the resources. President biden had a cordial conversation with president trump. I actually think it's really good that he reached out. I think he should bring president trump in and they really should do a joint appearance to reassure the country because people are this happens again? and i said it in the angle, i don't think humidity at this dumpty gets put back together. You are going to shatter whatever is left of the trust that the people have in the fbi and the secret service i think it's important to remember that the butler rally questions that this whistleblower and this whistleblower report that just came out raised those are still outstanding. Some of what you have discovered and brought to light in this whistleblower report is just devastating about why that roof was not secured before the president went out to speak. The facts are devastating, laura. And there are no answers to them. This is the problem. The secret service at this remove of two month still not answered the basic questions why wasn't the roof secured? we know the site plan called for there to be a security perimeter around that building. There wasn't one. They called for there to be law enforcement on top of the roof. They weren't there just like this guy at the perimeter of the gulf coast for 12 hours. Wgolfclub why didn't they swt beforehand. The same set of questions repeating itself over again. We haven't gotten answers to the first questions. They owe the american people an accounting what happened in july just like they owe them an accounting of what happened over the weekend. Laura: we don't know whose job it was. There must have been one or two individuals whose job it was to secure that roof. And in this whistleblower report, we discover that the issue of the oppressive heat. The temperature in the summer was a factor in not getting the roof actually monitored and secured? is that right? it absolutely is ridiculous. That is indeed what whistleblowers tell me, laura. What they say is that the plan, the security plan called for there to be law enforcement on the roof. And law enforcement around the building at butler. There were neither. There was nobody on the roof, except for the shooter. And there was nobody around the perimeter of the building and, yes, the excuse was well, it was awfully hot that day. Well, so, because of that, the former president is shot in the face and a good man is dead? that's the answer? come on, where are the answers here? why were there not law enforcement there? why weren't they putting their best people on this detail? we also know from whistleblowers that the lead site agent is someone who is not trusted by other street service agents, who was not highly regarded in the service and didn't know what she was doing. Why are these people running security for a former president, and a current major party nominee? it's all inexplicable. The longer we go without real answers, laura, the worse it gets. Laura: and if dei is part of what is factoring in here, or diversity, you know, check boxes, then that's a real problem. And i think the less we know the more we can ai'm assume the facts are bad for the fbi and the screefts service. Senator, thank you so much. All right. Laura: time for seen and unseen when we reveal the stories behind the headlines. Language used during a campaign, it matters. It does. You talked about this earlier in the show, language shapes reality. Thoughts become reality. For all the talk today from harris and walt that violence has no place in politics, the rhetoric from the democratic side has been pretty dire of late. Don't give them the power, are they going to take our rights away, yes. That fascist depend on fear. The election ain't no joke, we have to take this [ bleep ] through. Let me tell you about project 2025 is. [ cheering ] beat the hell out of them. Then there was kamala harris at the dnc. Simply put, they are out of their minds. Laura: joyful. Did she happen to see her running mate's wife gwen this weekend? i kind of liked it when she did this. Turn the page. Practice with me, what will he do? turn the page. Do it again. Turn the page. They may need to bring meds to the next rally. It's a classic case of projection. You don't have a whole party on the republican side trying to make an argument that the entire other party is simply out of their minds or weird. That's not a governing agenda and that's not an argument. But that is what we're seeing here. I just thank we have to watch this language. Look, i'm not saying they are crazy and both sides. But corporately something is happening on the democratic side that i do think needs scrutiny. Laura: something we don't talk about often but it's significant, the catholic vote in the united states on pope francis was asked about catholics in the us and whom they should support. Listen to this answer. [ speaking alternate language ] voice of interpreter: both were against a life whether it's the one who is chasing away migrants or the one that kills children. Both were against life. Not welcoming migrants is a sin. It is grave. Performing an abortion is killing a human being. It's an assassination. You must devote and choose the lesser evil. Which is the lesser evil? that lady or the gentleman? i don't know. [ end of interpretation ] laura, the pope should know. Killing a child is a graven moral sin than turning a migrant away at the border for not following protocol. One end to light the other protects the integrity of the nation and needs people which the church teaches is the nation's guide. The moral equivalency hear is a very concerning. I wish the pope would be more clear and simply not wade into these waters. Laura: i was at the vatican this past summer and i did not see a lot of migrant tents that were allowed on the vatican grounds. Nor did i see anyone getting a migrant being ushered through the long line of people waiting to get in. And if they didn't have tickets to get into the vatican museum no entry, please. We can even walk into the vatican gardens without an invitation and permission. Come on. I wish the pope were clearer. There's no doubt that the church has always taught abortion is intrinsically evil. And the pope seems to be smudging that when he says vote for the lesser of the two. Neither are prolife. That's simply not true. It's just not true, pope, i hope, would read more deeply into the agenda of both of these parties before speaking out. I call this plain confusion when he does these corporate press conferences. They never end well. Laura: this is why you and i have a lot of fans in the vatican. Maybe it's time to turn the page. Turn the page! god bless. Great to see you as always. Thank you so much. Thank you for watching and remember it's america now and forever. We will turn the page to jesse watters.
