While having such mandatory leaves "may be well-intentioned", Minister Teo noted that "we need to be mindful that it could have the effect of increasing costs to employers, and impact the employability of working caregivers in the long term."
In a parliamentary question yesterday (8 March), MP Christopher de Souza had asked if mandatory caregiver and bereavement leaves could be given for caregivers when their aged parents or grandparents are "in a terminal situation with a few weeks or months left to live."
