POLICE are working with a number of garages across Cumbria to mark catalytic converters with a substance known as smart water.
The substance is a water-based, inorganic traceable liquid that contains a unique forensic signature that will withstand fire, humidity and sunlight.
Only a tiny speck is required to link a criminal back to the scene of crime.
There are a limited number of kits available, so it is on a first come, first served basis.
Garages offering the service include Courtfield Garage, Sammy Lees and Eden Garage in Appleby, Ballantynes Garage in Langwathby, Central Garage and Arthur Brown in Shap, Jonestones Garage and Mark John Motors in Kirkby Stephen, and Moredun Garage, JH Henderson and Sons ltd, and Eden Valley Autos in Alston.
