At one of the nations top takeaways , fish and chips today , takeaways, fish and chips today, we will be having some looks at some of the best shops in the country competing at the National Fish and chip awards, which are taking place in london tonight. Tonight. Its probably the biggest sports story, but otherwise in sports story, but otherwise in sport in the fa cup. Erling haaland scores five of Manchester City, six against luton. Newcastle beat blackburn on penalties and more ice skating doping controversy. Skating doping controversy. Well have to watch out for some thick fog this morning before rain pushes in from the west, and thats likely to be heavy at times. Ill have all the details in the full forecast. Top story today is dominated by royal matters. Yesterday was a day of drama and tragedy in the Royal Household. Household. Queen camilla was front and centre as she led the royal family at a service of thanksgiving for the late king consort , antony of greece, at consort, antony of greece, at Windsor Castle yesterday. Prince. Well, but the the prince. Well, but the prince of wales pulled out of the event to honour his late godfather because of whats being described as a personal matter. While the king continued with his treatment for cancer. While mystery was then compounded by tragedy, as yesterday evening it was revealed the son in law of the prince and princess michael of kent , Thomas Prince and princess michael of kent, thomas kingston, had died at the age of just 45 of. Lets go to royal correspondent michael cole, who joins us now. Michael what a day and what a culmination of sad events. Eamonn a lot of royal news yesterday. And none of it good. Yesterday. And none of it good. My yesterday. And none of it good. My thoughts go first to Lady Gabriella. Always known as ella in the family, a widow who, at the age of 42. Uh, she was there with her husband. At prince with her husband. At prince michaels Birthday Party at Kensington Palace, which i attended in 2022. And shes an utterly charming girl. Um, taking on the role of hostess for her father and putting everyone at ease and making everybody welcome and, uh, they seem to be an extremely happy couple. Last seen out on saint valentines night and only married for, well, not quite five years. They married at Saint Georges chapel. You just saw the lovely pictures there. Saw the lovely pictures there. And there is that day that was shortly after your favourite people, the duke and duchess of sussex , had married there, and sussex, had married there, and their wedding reception was also at frogmore house, where the sussexes wedding reception was. I think we can say that this affair was a slightly more , uh, affair was a slightly more, uh, shall we say, toned. Down maybe shall we say, toned. Down maybe evenin shall we say, toned. Down maybe even in slightly better taste. Certainly less hollywood than the sussexes wedding. And now the sussexes wedding. And now he, interesting man. Uh, in he, uh, interesting man. Uh, in a statement from his family and from , uh, Lady Gabriella , an from, uh, Lady Gabriella, an exceptional man who lit up peoples lives, he , he made a peoples lives, he, he made a lot of money in asset management, which essentially is using other peoples money to make more money. Uh, but he had had a career working for the Foreign Office in baghdad for a number of years, and he was involved in peace making initiatives and also a negotiator dating hostage release. Uh, hes been found release. Uh, hes been found dead on sunday at a house in, in in gloucestershire. Now obviously with every unexplained. And or sudden death, the coroner will be involved and there will be an investigation and there will be an inquest in due course. Um, but very, very sad for her. Uh, gabriellas sad day for her. Uh, gabriellas , uh, brother, of course , lord , uh, brother, of course, Lord Frederick Windsor is married to the actress Sophie Winkleman , the actress Sophie Winkleman, who, of course, is the half sister of claudia winkleman. As sister of claudia winkleman. As you said earlier , i think it you said earlier, i think it was, uh, i was listening to you. The duke and the prince and princess michael of kent did actually attend the service yesterday. The memorial. Service yesterday. The memorial. Service for the late. King constantine. For the late. King constantine. Constantine, the second of greece. So they did go there, but obviously a terrible shock for the whole family. Yeah. And michael, that cant have been easy for them, not least as you it least because, as you say, it was in the exact same venue that they married five years they had married just five years previously, leads me on, they had married just five years prevyouly, leads me on, they had married just five years prevyou know, leads me on, they had married just five years prevyou know, to leads me on, they had married just five years prevyou know, to whys me on, they had married just five years prevyou know, to why prince n, um, you know, to why Prince William wasnt there. I mean, he lives, what, three miles away . Adelaide cottage at short notice, pulling out for personal reasons. Know that the reasons. We now know that the prince and princess michael of kent serious kent obviously had serious personal reasons not to there kent obviously had serious peiwell. Reasons not to there kent obviously had serious peiwell. Reasworried to there kent obviously had serious peiwell. Reasworried should1ere kent obviously had serious peiwell. Reasworried should wee as well. How worried should we be, in your opinion, about about his household . His household . Not for the first in not for the first time in your life. You make you you ask the key question why . Why did he pull . Uh. Very unusual. Not pull out . Uh. Very unusual. Not unprecedented, perhaps, but shortly before the service was due to take place, he pulled out. For what . Kensington palace said was personal reasons. They then indicated that it was nothing to do with the, uh, the, uh, his wife, uh, k, princess of wales, whose , uh, recovery we wales, whose, uh, recovery we were told is progressing very well. So why did he do so, uh, what he did do, being gentleman. He is he did ring the widow of King Constantine and, uh, his his heir, prince pavlos. To say that he wouldnt be there. And im quite sure they understood the reason. But what is the reason . Uh, i, i was giving brownie points to Kensington Palace over the handling of recent things. I think they were being more candid. I think there was a lot more welcome. Uh, but on this one, i think they could be a little bit more candid because. Well, if it was a if he because. Well, if it was a if he got a toothache , tell us hes got a toothache, tell us hes got a toothache, tell us hes got a toothache, tell us hes got a toothache. Theres some other explanation. Otherwise what youre going to get is what weve got speculation on whats happening. Rumour abounds. And i think a very bad think thats always a very bad thing. Think, uh, thing. I think, uh uh, Kensington Palace and indeed buckingham go Buckingham Palace could go further of further down the route of letting their letting us into their confidences when they can. Of course, some things are private. They have to be private , and they have to be private, and they should be private. But i think we should be told if Something Like this happens. Otherwise people think the worst theres been so much, uh, adverse news, health news that people jump to conclusions that are not justified. Well, more than let into the royal familys confidence. Um, leads ing the royal family yesterday. Uh, Prince Andrew, uh , in the in the front pew of mourners there. Uh alongside princess alexa andre, the duke and duchess of gloucester , uh, and duchess of gloucester, uh, Princess Anne and her husband and Queen Camilla. What would you what would you like to say about that . Or did that surprise you . Well, i think there we see them. Uh the duke of york with sarah, duchess of york , walking sarah, duchess of york, walking with Timothy Laurence , uh, with Timothy Laurence, uh, Princess Annes husband. Well this is one of the diminishing number of royal occasions where the, uh, Prince Andrew is not only, uh , accepted, but probably only, uh, accepted, but probably welcome , um, because it was welcome, um, because it was a very much a family affair. King constantine was very close to the royal family. He lived most of his life here, although he was buried eventually back in greece , uh, where he was greece, uh, where he was overthrown by a military junta. Overthrown by a military junta. In 1967. He lived. Mainly in in 1967. He lived. Mainly in this country, so there you saw, uh, Prince Andrew, very pleased to be out with the family as you say, front and centre. But i say, front and centre. But i think thats as far as its going to go with regard to him playing anything like a role. In playing anything like a role. In the everyday life of the royal family. Yeah, its interesting , family. Yeah, its interesting, the royal news, you know, different angles, all making the headlines, but the mirror saying prince still doesnt get it. Obviously not impressed prince still doesnt get it. Him ously not impressed prince still doesnt get it. Him leadingt impressed prince still doesnt get it. Him leading the pressed prince still doesnt get it. Him leading the royald prince still doesnt get it. Him leading the royal family see him leading the royal family yesterday, royal news yesterday, but other royal news today expecting a decision today were expecting a decision on harrys security. Um, on prince harrys security. Um, so it feels like theres just a never ending stream of royal stories today. Michael yeah, indeed. The prince of litigation back court, uh, litigation is back in court, uh, having this time the having a go this time at the Foreign Office and the home office who is ultimately in charge of the security of royal personages and other vips. Now, lets get the absolutely clear. Lets get the absolutely clear. Uh, when prince harry comes. To uh, when prince harry comes. To this country, he gets, uh, security. Uh as designated on a case by case basis. Its not as case by case basis. Its not as if he just turns up and theres nobody there to look after him. He does get, uh. Uh uh, security protection. But what he wants protection. But what he wants when he comes with his family or alone is round the clock. Armed protection , uh, by the police protection, uh, by the police and, uh, the home office committee, which deals with such things , says that that is not things, says that that is not justified. So thats what thats justified. So thats what thats about. Justified. So thats what thats about. And it will be about. And it will be interesting to see the outcome. Um, because i think its unprecedented. And as i say, its not as if he doesnt get protected. But of course , i protected. But of course, i think really , uh, this is very think really, uh, this is very much on his mind. Think really, uh, this is very much on his mind. And i think much on his mind. And i think its one of the reasons why he scooted out of the Country First to canada and then to california, which may have been the, uh, original, uh, destination. Of course, in destination. But of course, in california, he has round the clock protection. But he and Meghan Markle have to pay for that. And that actually can make a hole in your finances. A big hole in your finances. Michael got to leave it there. Thanks everything. Thanks. Thanks for everything. Thanks for. Appreciate for the round up. Appreciate it. Thank. Um, from royal thank you. Um, from royal matters to politics, nana gb news understands that suspended conservative mp anderson has conservative mp lee anderson has held private talks with the leader of the reform party , leader of the reform party, richard tice, fuelling speculation that the former conservative party deputy chair will all join reform. Will all join reform. Well, joining us now is political commentator andy williams. Good morning to you. And theyve both said havent they. Theyre not going to give a commentary on any a running commentary on any decision. You know , given decision. But you know, given that come out and said he that hes come out and said he will not apologise for this, it feels nowhere feels as though he has nowhere to he could well be to go and he could well be reforms. First mp he could. And i mean, Lee Andersons not denying this. I think hes quite frankly, quite enjoying this, uh, circus thats been going on for a week now. I thats been going on for a week now. I mean, itd be a really high profile boost for reform, wouldnt to have first wouldnt it, to have their first mp, someone. I know hes mp, to have someone. I know hes had the whip suspended, but effectively the effectively defect from the conservative party to reform, and i it would for the and i think it would for the party and for richard tice put a stake the ground for them stake in the ground for them that says actually, they could be force at election. Be a real force at the election. Theyre 13. Thats theyre polling at 13. Thats only points behind the only seven points behind the conservatives so they a conservatives so they have a significant chance to impact the election, impact the election to what end, though . Because the conservatives are at pains to say, well, you know what, a vote for reform simply will labour getting will lead to labour getting power because theres no way reform get sort of reform can get any sort of majority. Well and theyre right. I mean, are right. Its i mean, they are right. Its a real, real problem for rishi sunak conservatives sunak and the conservatives because reform , theyre very because reform, theyre very unlikely to get significant unlikely to get a significant number of but what they number of seats. But what they will away from will do is drag votes away from the conservatives on the right, particularly in big brexit voting areas , in places like the voting areas, in places like the red wall in the north of england, where the conservatives won a lot of seats last time and are going to really struggle this time. So its a big, big problem. And i think really their objective is cause their objective is one cause some mischief. Right . And secondly, take votes away from the conservatives and drag them to the right. Okay. Well weve got the budget next week. Um, can budget next week. Um, what can you preview on that for us . Well, its all going to be about the extent to which the chancellor goes for tax cuts. Chancellor goes for tax cuts. Right. So its been trailed for some time. This is the last budget before the general election. Um that he will want to make a big statement. And, you , uh, put forward an you know, uh, put forward an offer to voters in terms of tax cuts. The challenge is wheres the money coming from . And actually, latest briefings actually, the latest briefings are maybe therell be are saying maybe therell be another 1 off National Insurance, maybe theyll freeze fuel duty. I think most voters are to say, is that it is are going to say, is that it is that really it that is not going to change minds. If to change peoples minds. If theyre thinking, weve had 14 years of conservative government and struggling with the cost and im struggling with the cost of living happening of living crisis happening absolutely country as well. Its all smoke and mirrors this. So he either does it because he doesnt care if they lose the election anyway. Does it matter what state the public finances are in . Thats what i cant understand unless they actually think theyre going to win. Win. Well, mm em mm well, theyre not going to win. Im very confident now in win. Im very confident now in saying that are not going saying that they are not going to think rishi, rishi to win. Um i think rishi, rishi sunak and jeremy hunt actually are two, two Centre People at their core to do anything really reckless. Theyre not going to go a sort of liz truss, go for a sort of liz truss, Kwasi Kwarteng bonanza. Heres loads of free money. Thats just not what they believe. And so i think theyre in a really tricky spot caught spot where theyre caught between it. They between the politics of it. They know need to do something know they need to do something bold you know , something bold and, you know, something thats standout offer thats a standout offer to the electorate. But they have electorate. But they dont have the money. Electorate. But they dont have the they ay. Electorate. But they dont have the theyay. Have money. They dont have the money. Theyre pressure to make theyre under pressure to make these cuts. And theyre also under spend i under pressure to spend more. I mean, right wing mean, heres the right wing press calling , uh, press this morning calling, uh, reports that theyre not going to defence. To invest more in defence. Indefensible because, of course, all rising concern about all this rising concern about various threats , a big various global threats, a big worry for the mod, absolute folly. And, you know, theres greater rationale than there has beenin greater rationale than there has been in many, many a year to be investing in our defences. You look at you know, russia being on the march, weve got china obviously security. These days isnt just about boots the isnt just about boots on the ground. Its about cybersecurity. About cybersecurity. Its about hacking. So course its an hacking. So of course its an area we need to invest. But it comes back to that question, doesnt it . We have a limited pot of money where is it going to be spent. So all eyes on the budget week. Going to budget next week. Its going to be a really significant moment. Pre election. My eye was caught yesterday by Horizon Office by the Horizon Post Office investigation , investigation and this inquiry, which just seems to be going on and one thing i just and on. And the one thing i just thought, andy, why are we thought, andy, is why are we still debating this . Why arent we just not paying these poor people ill, giving them our thanks , our gratitude and thanks, our gratitude and saying, really sorry for messing you about . Why isnt it being sorted . Its just its the most extraordinary mess. I its just its the most extraordinary mess. I mean, its a story of failure on every level. Its a story of corporate failure. And actually, we saw quite an unseemly , uh, back and quite an unseemly, uh, back and forth between the former chairman of the post Office Yesterday and the chief executive. Its story of executive. Its then a story of government failure, failure to act swiftly decisively. And act swiftly and decisively. And i think, you know, tom peck in the times today, if you get a chance to read it, wrote a really good piece where he said, weve now moved on to the scandal about the post Office Scandal about the post Office Scandal and that scandal is that years after the facts were established, of victims established, hundreds of victims still paid the still havent been paid the money nobody disputes money that nobody disputes theyre. Theyre owed. Look, the government will and look, the government will come and say, well, look, come out and say, well, look, making takes time. Making legislation takes time. Well, time when well, it didnt take time when they to make they suddenly had to make a treaty rwanda prove that treaty with rwanda to prove that it safe or to try and get it was safe or to try and get emergency legislation on emergency legislation through on their but this their flagship policy. But this one, which is potentially highly expensive for before an expensive for them before an election , are they dragging election, are they dragging their feet . Well there is the accusation by the former chairman that department for chairman that the department for business asked the post office to. I think they said go slowly, you know, kind of hobble to the election and, and put this on the back burner. Now the, uh, the back burner. Now the, uh, the business secretary vigorously that claim. Vigorously denies that claim. But if there is any truth in the fact that the government has been deliberately slowing down redress for victims of the scandal, then that is really, truly shocking. Shocking, that is the word. Andy williams , political andy williams, political commentator. Thank you very much indeed. Andys raised a few questions. If you want to answer them or put your opinion gb views at gb news. Com and were going take a look at some of the other stories making headlines this with the time at this morning with the time at 616 and the conservatives could be yet another be facing yet another by election this time, it by election after this time, it was the former mp by election after this time, it was benton the former mp by election after this time, it was benton hase former mp by election after this time, it was benton has been1er mp by election after this time, it was benton has been suspended scott benton has been suspended from the house commons for 35 days. The blackpool mp broke commons rules when he was caught by the times, offering to act on behalf of gambling investors. President biden has comfortably won the democratic primary in michigan, with over 80 of the vote. However 58,000 voters marked their ballot as uncommitted to protest at bidens gaza policy, far exceeding the expectations of organisers. Former president donald also beat his primary contender, nikki haley, again , contender, nikki haley, again, trump, with 67 of the vote to haleys 27. The bbc has apologised to the family caught up in the huw edwards scandal over the way their complaint was handled. It follows claims the news presenter paid for explicit photos of a teenager. A review into how non editorial complaints are handled, identified a number of failures and says theres a need for greater consistency when it comes to addressing those concerns. Fish and comes to addressing those concerns. Fish and chips. Comes to addressing those concerns. Fish and chips. Very, concerns. Fish and chips. Very, very nice. I like fish and chips at fish and chips on sunday, actually. Actually. Actually, i say that we had fish and chips and a battered sausage just, you know, to help the kids involved. But the kids get involved. But i reckon are not a battered reckon you are not a battered sausage. Didnt it. Ive sausage. I didnt mind it. Ive been converted. Ive been quite likeable. Good. These are the National Fish and chip awards and industry is worth around and the industry is worth around £2 billion to the economy. I go with whatevers, you know , everyones going to have know, everyones going to have a go at me, but. Know, everyones going to have a go at me, but. I try not to go for whatevers overfished at that point. So theres lots of talk about cod being overfished. So then ill go for one thats not being overfished. Im going to irritate everybody. Um, guess how much this cost . Irritate everybody. Um, guess hovid uch this cost . Irritate everybody. Um, guess hovid say this cost . Irritate everybody. Um, guess hovid say about,st . Irritate everybody. Um, guess hovid say about, um, a minimum id say about, um, a minimum £8. And if it was a bigger fish, it would be £11. It was more than that. Its £13. Thats our fish and okay. Thats our fish and chip debate. And as isabel said, the winner of the National Awards will be live here in the studio tomorrow. Lets get studio tomorrow. Lets get a weather update. Alex burkill, with that. Morning. Im alex burkill and heres your latest gb news weather update. It is going to weather update. It is going to turn increasingly wet from the west as we go through today, but for the time being theres some significant fog around, particularly parts particularly across parts of England Wales, could cause england and wales, could cause some problems on roads if some problems on the roads if youre early. In youre heading out early. But in the wet start to the the west its a wet start to the day. Heavy rain across initially Northern Ireland pushing into parts scotland, and parts of scotland, england and wales heavy , wales likely to turn heavy, particularly over any Higher Ground, the ground, especially over the higher wales. All the Higher Ground of wales. All the time, though across the southeast of uk staying southeast of the uk staying largely least during southeast of the uk staying largely hours least during southeast of the uk staying largely hours andt during southeast of the uk staying largely hours and forrring southeast of the uk staying largely hours and for most of Daylight Hours and for most of us its a mild picture. Many places getting into double figures, but with some strong winds and in the rain. Its going to feel pretty unpleasant at rain then does at times. That rain then does reach as we go reach the southeast as we go through this evening, with further from the through this evening, with furth as from the through this evening, with furth as we from the through this evening, with furth as we go from the through this evening, with furth as we go through from the through this evening, with furth as we go through the] the through this evening, with furth as we go through the ends through this evening, with furth as we go through the end of west as we go through the end of the perhaps the second band the day. Perhaps the second band of this evening and of rain this evening and overnight even more overnight will be even more intense, so a greater chance of some localised impacts due to that, there will some clearer that, there will be some clearer skies him from the skies following him from the north, northwest, go north, the northwest, as we go through night, perhaps through the night, perhaps turning chillier here, but turning a bit chillier here, but towards the southeast. Another mild go through mild night here as we go through into a a cloud into thursday. A bit of a cloud de wet picture to start the day across many parts central across many parts of central southeastern england , that rain southeastern england, that rain eventually towards eventually clearing away towards the southeast. Brighter story the southeast. A brighter story across parts of scotland and Northern Ireland, though some blustery, showery weather pushing its way and pushing its way in and temperatures taking a bit of a drop. So although it will be mild again in the southeast, elsewhere turning a little bit chillier and perhaps some wintry ness Higher Ground by ness over the Higher Ground by still to come, paul coyte is finished eating his chips. Now you know what . I just saw it there and i just thought fish and chips . And how long is it too early for you . How long . How long . Had that there, by the way we had that there, by the way its been. Is it fresh . It its been. Is it fresh . Is it from yesterday . Yeah. Okay. Fresh a bit of a funny fresh ish. Got a bit of a funny taste mouth in the morning. Would you have fish and chips . Well, give it a go. Im not really sure ill do it in the future. Erling haaland uh, my goodness, what a player he is. And we salute , uh, erling and we salute, uh, Erling Haaland. Really five goals last night for the second time this yean night for the second time this year, hes not bad. Year, hes not bad. This kid is he 23 years old. Hes immense. Five goals that he scores against luton yesterday. Now theres lots of records already that are going left right and centre. The first right and centre. The first player to score five in an fa cup game since 1970. And you know who that was. No. And im know who that was. No. And im going to say it your favourite player george best. Well i know he did it against. He did it against North Hampton did he. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Really. Yeah. Was it North Hampton . Im pretty sure was hampton . Im pretty sure it was nonh hampton . Im pretty sure it was North Hampton hampton . Im pretty sure it was norit Hampton Hampton . Im pretty sure it was norit was. Pton hampton . Im pretty sure it was norit was. Yeah so the last it was. Yeah so the last player i should say the top player i should say in the top flight and was a muddy, muddy flight and it was a muddy, muddy pitch have been pitch they would have been wouldnt all would have wouldnt they. All would have been anyway, first been muddy and anyway, first player probably sozzled player to score probably sozzled from before. And you from the night before. And you know and if he who know what. And if he wasnt, who knows what happen. Brazier knows what would happen. Brazier scored two uh. Huh first scored two uh. Huh uh, first player score a match player to score five in a match twice manchester 79 twice for Manchester City. 79 goals games. Was goals in 83 games. There was talk about haaland. Its talk about Erling Haaland. Its like hed been injured. Like where hed been injured. And was the magic gone. And and oh, was the magic gone. And he unbelievable yesterday. He was unbelievable yesterday. And also what we should mention is bruyne because kevin is Kevin De Bruyne because kevin de provided assist four de bruyner provided assist four times and five of those goals. So its the pairing hes delivering to haaland. And delivering to haaland. And haaland is putting it in the back of the net and what we can look at and what we can work out from this. The fact that they won six two is that coming won six two is that were coming into march, thats when into march, and thats when Manchester City start to take off. Odd wobble off. There may be the odd wobble here there, but when here and there, but when you start heading the last start heading towards the last couple of months of the season, thats theyre to thats when theyre going to start i Start Playing amazing. And i think every other team looking around premier league are around the premier league are just they and just thinking, here they go. And thats haaland is saying. Thats what haaland is saying. Not getting what were not getting at this stage. Fifth round in the fa cup replays, which think fa cup is replays, which i think is newcastle will is unfortunate. Newcastle will edge through penalties last edge through on penalties last night blackburn. Do edge through on penalties last night its blackburn. Do edge through on penalties last night its wrong. Ackburn. Do edge through on penalties last night its wrong that urn. Do edge through on penalties last night its wrong that there do think its wrong that there arent replays because think arent replays because i think clubs blackburn could clubs like blackburn could really the of really do with the revenue of a replay. E a em em w a tricky one isnt yeah, its a tricky one isnt it . Think on i think it . I think early on i think there replays earlier on in there were replays earlier on in there were replays earlier on in the round. So the third and the fourth. When we get into the fourth. But when we get into the fifth, is where we are fifth, which is where we are now, i think its probably expected theyre bigger now, i think its probably expecanyway. Theyre bigger now, i think its probably expecanyway. And re bigger now, i think its probably expecanyway. And re breplays clubs anyway. And the replays i think, well, lets just end it on the night. Um, the league cup, what they do is they dont even have extra time and then they go straight to penalties. So it went penalties. Uh, so it went to penalties. Uh, newcastle four three on newcastle won four three on penalties. You know, the other thing feel penalties thing i feel about penalties eamonn a lottery. Its thing i feel about penalties eanann a lottery. Its thing i feel about penalties eana lottery, a lottery. Its thing i feel about penalties eana lottery, is a lottery. Its thing i feel about penalties eana lottery, is it . Ottery. Its thing i feel about penalties eana lottery, is it . When its not a lottery, is it . When people go, oh, its a lottery. Penalties dont think a penalties i dont think its a lottery at all. Skill its an incredible skill. Theres so much it. And i love a penalty shootout. I remember, um, i if youve ever taken a penalty a real ever taken a penalty on a real pitch, you know, i did it at highfield road, coventry. Its highfield road, coventry. Its the longest distance to run up, hit the ball and then the distance to that goal is so far and the goalkeeper seems huge, huge. The goal seems smaller as you step up and this is the thing. Its all theres so much of it is in the mind and you cant recreate it. Its when england would always talk about losing penalty shoot outs. They got better over recent years, but you cannot recreate that moment. Even if a player will go up and 90, even if a player will go up and go, ill put it in the left hand corner. You cant do it. Cant do it. I wonder, can they recreate looking at tonight incidentally. Well done leicester. Yeah past leicester. Yeah uh, going past bournemouth. Um, bournemouth on a games a bad run. Various games recently but leicester, leicester last leicester beating them last night. Tonight and you talk about recreating the most amazing final. About recreating the most amazing final. 1970 chelsea amazing final. 1970 chelsea versus leeds united goes to a replay played at old Trafford Chelsea win um controversial but honestly paul go to go to google and google the highlights of that game because you have never its war. Youve never seen mud wrestling filthy play. I mean its really dangerous, really filthy to see. If you think of the leeds team of the day, dirty leeds, are they used to call them. And then you got ron harris dirty then you got ron harris dirty the pitch, everything was dirty. A mud bath and you remember ian the way he used Ian Hutchinson the way he used to a throw in. To take a throw in. Yeah. Was like windy yeah. It was like windy miller know the arms would miller you know the arms would go and he would launch the ball so cant seem to it so people cant seem to throw it that these days, that like that these days, especially though its like throwing ball. Especially though its like thr butg ball. Especially though its like thr but when ball. Especially though its like thr but when i ball. Especially though its like thr but when i was ball. Especially though its like thr but when i was young and but when i was young and i would have been about ten then that was the way you want. You wanted to emulate hutchinson that was the way you want. You wante that, emulate hutchinson that was the way you want. You wante that, throwing. Utchinson that was the way you want. You wante that, throwing. Utchinowi doing that, throwing. But now nobody be an nobody doesnt seem to be an important of possession important part of the possession. All about possession. Its all about possession. Yeah, was using yeah, yeah. Whereas he was using that it a free kick. That as if it was a free kick. Theres a few that can do it, but not to the way that he used to. Martin chivers was another one. To throw one. Used to be able to throw the ball into the box. But Chelsea Leeds dont think its Chelsea Leeds i dont think its quite to be the spectacle quite going to be the spectacle that old trafford back that it was at old trafford back in but it should be in 1970, but it should be exciting. Wolves and brighton forest out against Manchester United. Yeah, thats got history um, yeah, thats got history as we had to beat as well. We had, we had to beat forest to the fa cup forest to get to the fa cup final 1990. Yes. And see if alex ferguson, his job, can you imagine if forest had won that game, have been out the game, he would have been out the whole history have whole of history could have been different Manchester United. Could ended up being you could have ended up being the manager who knows what it was going to be. And you know, you a bad you wouldnt have done a bad job. Versus job. Liverpool versus southampton um, so southampton as well. Um, so there other games in the fa there the other games in the fa cup fifth round tonight. Managers were right. Okay. Managers were talking pressure. Talking about some pressure. You know will be under know pochettino will be under pressure with that pressure for tonight with that game. Ten hag and what have game. Erik ten hag and what have you got to there. You got to say there. Well really pochettino this is where people are then looking at pochettino is he going to last . He wants patience. He wants everybody to be patient, which knows that which makes sense. Knows that other in the past have other managers in the past have had that guardiola, they had that pep guardiola, they were patient youve to were patient with. Youve got to have patience a manager, have patience with a manager, but if they dont get into europe then who knows whether hes going to last. Hes got a year left on his contract and hes again, youve got the directors saying, oh yeah, were absolutely backing him, but what directors saying, oh yeah, were abs hell ly backing him, but what directors saying, oh yeah, were abs hell does king him, but what directors saying, oh yeah, were abs hell does that him, but what directors saying, oh yeah, were abs hell does that mean . Ut what the hell does that mean . Support and standoff between marcus hag Marcus Rashford and erik ten hag that no communication that theres no communication between them. So you between the two of them. So you know you can see that rashford is banking ten hag not is banking on ten hag not lasting the summer. And lasting beyond the summer. And ten lasting. Rashford ten hag is lasting. On rashford being out by the summer. But i would say this massive shift in in sympathy and empathy from Manchester United supporters towards rashford, people dont care and i get rid of them and move on. Take the money from psg. Yeah, whatever. Yeah, its so much of it is about effort, isnt it . When you see a player that you feel like theyve given everything and people look at rashford and thinking, you what . And thinking, you know what . And its sir jim thinking, you know what . And its Sirjim Ratcliffe its and also sir Jim Ratcliffe coming failed to say eric ten coming in failed to say eric ten hag is the future. He was saying that things havent been right but see. So you but well have to see. So you know you cant pin any, know you cant really pin any, you flags to the mast you know, flags to the mast yet because knows where its because who knows where its going to go. But erik ten hag very important him, very important game for him, especially happened especially after what happened with fulham, which was a bit of a disaster day. Wasnt it . Okay, winter olympics, we go back 2022. We are getting back to 2022. We are getting re awarding of medals. Dear. Re awarding of medals. Oh dear. Remember and do you remember valiyeva and the with the last the whole problem with the last olympics . Now now she was banned for four years. Im gonna do this as quickly as i can in the olympics, in the in the gold in the team event , the russian team the team event, the russian team won the gold. It was then taken away. Now theres been away. Whereas now theres been more from russia and from the russian side who are now going to the court of arbitration for sport, saying were going to appeal again. Then its like, appeal again. Then its like, and the americans are sitting there thinking, wheres gold there thinking, wheres our gold medals canada. They medals . And now canada. They want the bronze medal, but the russians beat them by one point. Even if valieva wasnt skating. Its a mess. But, you know, just give the gold medal to the americans, for goodness sake. Could and and on and on could go on and on and on and on and on. Which youre not going to go on no, no, thats santa on and on. No, no, thats santa that my friend. Absolutely. See you again. 7 20. That my friend. Absolutely. See you iwilli. 7 20. That my friend. Absolutely. See you iwilli. 7 2the court of i will see the court of arbitration for sport. Very much indeed. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you very much indeed. Us. Were gonna be stay with us. Were gonna be looking the front pages. Looking through the front pages. Different story much on different story pretty much on every one this morning. Every single one this morning. Friday, join Michael Portillo on gb news breakfast for his take on the results. Gb news. Britains election. Gb news. Britains election. Channel. Hello there. Lets have a look at the front pages, the newspapers youre waking up to in this tuesday morning. Heres the guardian. Its leading alleged victim leading with an alleged victim of assault by a of Sexual Assault by a conservative mp. Theyve accused the party of being more concerned about protecting its own than her welfare. Own reputation than her welfare. The daily mail. Um, its the sudden death of Lady Gabriellas husband rocking the royal family as Prince William mysteriously misses his godfathers memorial. Misses his godfathers memorial. The times is leading with the home secretary, James Cleverly telling pro Palestine Protesters to stop their regular rallies because theyve made their point now about gaza. Now about gaza. The i it leads with labour possibly going into the election , even with a small lead as they are yet to convince 40 of target voters. In a yougov poll , target voters. In a yougov poll, the daily express theyre leading with lee anderson declaring that hes not racist and that his comments represent the views of thousands of tory voters. And finally, theres the voters. And finally, theres the mirror leading with fury after Prince Andrew leads the royals to a Memorial Service. Um yesterday, um , joining us now to yesterday, um, joining us now to talk through those stories and lots more is former labour adviser Scarlett Mccgwire and oscar redrup, a former adviser to Boris Johnson. To Boris Johnson. Yeah. Yeah. Um, right. Yeah. Um, right. Um, okay, heres the thing. Why is Prince Andrew the thing. Why is Prince Andrew its a its a Memorial Service. Its a discreet, quiet family affair. Whats the problem with Prince Andrew . Why is everybody saying theres fury about this . Saying theres fury about this . Well, i think theyre making a fuss about nothing. I think youre completely right. I mean, youre completely right. I mean, you know, charles, our king was not there because hes having chemotherapy. He, um, our next chemotherapy. He, um, our next king wasnt there. Our next king wasnt there for reasons that we dont know, but that obviously something was terribly wrong. Something was terribly wrong. Uh, and the next one down was, was was andrew, and it was private. And, you know, i mean, im sure that you know, big him up and he made him feel wonderful and all of that stuff. But i mean, what do you do . Do you ban him from private. You know, it was it was a cousin or something. Whose memorial . Something who. Whose memorial . You wonder. Something who. Whose memorial . You he nder. Something who. Whose memorial . You he taking advantage was he taking advantage of this vacuum of paris . This sort of vacuum of paris . Oh, of course he was in the past that Prince William specifically had objected to him appearing in a high profile position, cant remember. Position, and i cant remember. Was it the funeral of his mother of the big events mother or one of the big events that happened recent that have happened in recent months . So , was he taking months . And so, was he taking advantage there, or you know, as some are suggesting, some people are suggesting, is he deaf . You know, he just tone deaf . You know, this somebody who settled he just tone deaf . You know, thiswe somebody who settled he just tone deaf . You know, thiswe think, ody who settled he just tone deaf . You know, thiswe think, overvho settled he just tone deaf . You know, thiswe think, over £10 settled he just tone deaf . You know, thiswe think, over £10 million for, we think, over £10 million with with a woman whos made very serious sexual allegations against him. Well, look, these these moments and these, uh, you know , moments and these, uh, you know, uh, a stage managed beyond belief. You know, journalists will be arranged pictures , airs, will be arranged pictures, airs, um, walking order, minute to minute. Corridor to corridor, corner to corner. And so it is optically i hate that word because a lot of people probably watching why thats such an annoying word to use. But but the optics of it do stink. Like they just do. And the daily mirror obviously had their, uh, journalist really well positioned and they get him kind of looking not like of smiling and looking not like a man who has put the family through and, um, you know , in through and, um, you know, in some money, people would say the country through quite a grim ordeal. And so that that is a mistake. I agree , its not a big mistake. I agree, its not a big deal mistake. I agree, its not a big deal, scarlet. I completely get that. But it is a real, real error and a quite a simple error i yeah. And i mean probably Prince Andrew is awful. I mean, you know, he insisted that both his children, both his daughters were called princesses. And when he in the Foreign Office, he was in the Foreign Office, i mean, he was appalling about the way everybody had to treat him, you know . So, so hes not here to defend himself . No. Would deny all of the allegations that have been made against him. And as you point out, family funeral perfectly entitled do as he wishes. Entitled to do as he wishes. How do we compare the way andrew is reported on treated to huw edwards in the papers this morning , the bbc newscaster um, morning, the bbc newscaster um, im im getting a conflicting feeling from the headlines. Right hugh roy, bbc say sorry. Thats the front page of the sun. And its a big headline here. Now that strikes me as when i see that theyve said sorry to hugh, which i skirt, they have not. No , its quite its quite the no, its quite its quite the opposite. Um, the bbc apologised opposite. Um, the bbc apologised to the parents at the centre of the scandal , to the parents at the centre of the scandal, and the bosses have come out. Um, the scandal, and the bosses have come out. Um, its the scandal, and the bosses have come out. Um, its been quite come out. Um, its been quite some time now , but the bosses some time now, but the bosses have come out admitted failings over of that over the handling of that campaign um, i think that this campaign. Um, i think that this issue and it absolutely took oven issue and it absolutely took over, you know, bulletins , front over, you know, bulletins, front pages, tv stations , uh, for pages, tv stations, uh, for weeks it felt like, um , i think weeks it felt like, um, i think weve now got to a place where its cooled. Uh, the temperature its cooled. Uh, the temperature on it is cooled and, and it they must there must be people at the bbc who look back and go, you know what . If wed actually really leapt on to this and really leapt on to this and really handled this properly and efficiently and quickly . So much of the pain to so many of the stakeholders and people involved would have been avoided. Its always true, isnt and its always true, isnt it . Its not happens. Its it . Its not what happens. Its the covering up afterwards. And thats what, you know. Had they had they reached out to this 17 year old emile early and done something instead of thinking, maybe we can keep it quiet , maybe we can keep it quiet, because actually it had been , because actually it had been, you know, things had been going on for a while and they could have done it much more discreetly. The 17 year old discreetly. The 17 year old would have been better, better served. And so would huw edwards and his wife and children, i think, i mean, i mean , i mean, think, i mean, i mean, i mean, you know, i mean , actually the you know, i mean, actually the whole thing was a complete mess because it wasnt dealt with. Absolutely. I dont think any of us, anyone came out of it feeling , you know, good about feeling, you know, good about the situation at all. At all. Yeah well, staying with the theme of sexual allegations, which seems to be strong today at front of the guardian, an allegation against a conservative mp, there, the victim, alleged victim here is claiming that party is being put before her welfare. Yeah , well i mean its yeah, well i mean its a story thats been done before about that, that there was a woman who claimed Sexual Assault and she went, uh, she went up in the tory to the tory hierarchy. And they said, well, if you, you know, go and complain to the police. And what shes saying is actually , this isnt the way it actually, this isnt the way it should have been treated. You know, my, my complaint should have been taken seriously and it should have been investigated by the party. And actually, what they would they were were they would they were they were putting party first. And its another case. Its just like weve just said , had they done weve just said, had they done it properly, we would probably not know about it. And possibly an mp would have quietly gone on. Um, i mean , you know, and on. Um, i mean, you know, and instead its on the front page of the guardian mps go quietly anymore. Anymore. Everyone is a by election and it ends up being a huge bruising for the government if they happen to conservative mp. Happen to be a conservative mp. I think its possible i just dont think its possible to quietly in any. To go quietly in any. Well, its because they wont i its because they insist that every by election is so hard fought and so bruising to the, yes, a dying government. Think yes, a dying government. I think probably. Yes, a dying government. I think probabwhere is lee anderson so where is lee anderson going . Um, we so where is lee anderson going . Um, we see so where is lee anderson going . Um, we see that theres going . Um, we see that theres there have been talks. Um, we know those talks have now gone public. Uh, will it be to reform . How do you guys see that one . It feels thats the way it probably will go without making too many assumptions. I think in some ways is mutually beneficial. I think it makes sense at this point. Um its a real headache for rishi in some ways. This issue, um , in some ways. This issue, um, just to add to his, you know, extensive list, but he has to tread this. Hes probably having to tread a really difficult middle ground here in terms of holding both sides to the party mps who privately and publicly probably agree with what lee said and have , you know, think said and have, you know, think he speaks that place in kind of, uh , you know, again, to uh, you know, again, to generalise , but that plain red generalise, but that plain red wall language to a section of voters and then the other half who think he should never be in the party again, it was completely abhorrent thing. He said, um, and was completely wrong. As weve seen ministers tie themselves up in knots in time and time again. So it does feel that is the direction feel like that is the direction of the thing of travel. The last thing i would say on it is and its the front page, you know, im not a racist, just taking, you racist, just purely taking, you know, all the wrongs and rights out of it, detaching yourself from. Uh, kind of comms 101 from it. Uh, kind of comms 101 like, dont repeat the charge. You know, it really is as simple as that. Um i think hes hes got himself into a bit of a mess. And i think reform could be the party that helped get him out of it. But i think hes i mean, hes, hes blackmailing rishi sunak, isnt he. Hes hes saying im going to stand as an mp. So you either have me back in the party or im going to reform. Its, its that simple. But who actually is the net winner in all of this . Labour i mean, they must be sitting here laughing. Look, i was talking to a, a very senior labour person yesterday evening and, and she said yeah. So we, we have our morning meeting and they go day five of islam phobia. I mean we five of islam phobia. I mean we just sit back and let it happen and you forget how the week started for the labour party, like the labour party when a really, really tricky place politically. Politically. Starmer putting pressure on the speaker. Starmer putting pressure on the speaker. And its just a pattern at the moment where the conservatives sometimes conservatives do sometimes times, uh, snatch , uh, victory , times, uh, snatch, uh, victory, defeat from the jaws of victory or that story is not going away. 86 mps now have signed a motion of no confidence in the speaken motion of no confidence in the speaker, with clyde comrie overnight adding their weight to all of that. So hes potentially in a very difficult position and, you know, so is labour. Well storm isha in my personal view, should be in the difficult less so speaken but but but but for but yeah, but but but for oscar youre right. Person oscar youre right. The person whos difficult position whos in the difficult position is speaken whos in the difficult position is speaker. And whereas you is the speaker. And whereas you know, nobody is talking about labour splits over gaza. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well that leads on to this story in the front of the i scarlet the labour party are yet to convince 40 of their own target voters. Now where is the threat to that core. Is that coming from reform. Um, or, you coming from reform. Um, or, you know, why are people wavering . Know, why are people wavering . Is it a weak leadership in starmer or or. Well, i mean it upset over the handling of the ceasefire issue in gaza. I mean, what are they doing wrong . It should be so easy for them with all psychodrama all of the psychodrama that weve discussing , what weve been discussing, what i know is the people at the top of labour would be so grateful for this headline. Shadow cabinet every single shadow cabinet meeting, they go on and on and on saying its not a done deal. Things can go wrong. If you look things can go wrong. If you look at the polls really properly. We havent got it yet. But i mean, havent got it yet. But i mean, what labour want to absolutely say is , is its not a done deal. Say is, is its not a done deal. We really need every vote counts. So actually theyre very pleased. I mean what what is i pleased. I mean what what is i mean obviously we all know that before an election lots of people dont know which way theyre going to vote, and a lot of them end up. How can you have a government that has been has historically bad as this one and still in with a chance of winning an election . I, i dont think they what they say is, is the polls could narrow i mean and the biggest one is if reform. Absolutely falls apart and doesnt do it and even then theres a 4. I just have to i just have to get this off my chest. Voters do not know who keir starmer is as a politician, and a person. I think you know , he a person. I think you know, he probably just about passes the would you go for a pint with this person test just about. But and only if i wanted to go to sleep. Yeah. Quite a lot of people would say exactly that. Eamonn exactly. Eamonn exactly. I look and i think hes got a very attractive wife. How was he able to do that . Well, also, he was allegedly he, you know, the star of bridget joness diary. Darcy bridget joness diary. Mr darcy was fielding basted on. If you want to be Prime Minister but actually, i mean, he really is. He he if you meet him, he is charismatic. I mean, hes not charismatic on tv. Well i mean, i think that that that he feels that he has that because he hasnt been in politics that long that he had to sort of learn an awful lot. And i think its a great shame because, i mean, the first time i met him was, uh, when he was director of public prosecutions. It was at a lunch party. He had everybody enthralled and, uh, talking about things. And, you talking about things. And, you know, he. So it can come and go. Know, he. So it can come and go. I mean, tony blair used to be a complete blur, and then he discovered charisma. You can do it both ways. You know, i would say this. I dont know what you mean by a were, but tony blair, along with bill clinton , are the two most bill clinton, are the two most charismatic politician that i have ever met. But what im saying, eamonn, is it wasnt always thus with tony blair. I have no idea about clinton or clinton. Clinton or clinton. You would be licking clintons feet if only his feet. Maybe Something Else i dont know. Monica lewinsky is in the papers again this morning. Actually to another actually leads on to another paper story how shes rebranded herself. So why did Monica Lewinskys first live interview in in the uk about bill clinton . And i made a comment about the president and she said, well, you know, the president , do you . You know, the president , do you . I said, actually, i have met him on a number of occasions. I said, but unlike you, i only shook his hand , punchy. And she shook his hand, punchy. And she she burst out laughing. She for she burst out laughing. She for her. I tell you about monica lewinsky, a very impressive individual, very , very i think individual, very, very i think i think its great because what she went through was a complete and utter nightmare. And had there been social media at the time, she would have been trolled and trolled and trolled and for her to come out laughing is fantastic. Like she, shes. Like she, shes. Yeah, shes the front of times two today. I cant read out word it but how . Out the word it says, but how . How . Monica lewinsky got her life back. Was something life back. She was something shamed feminist icon at shamed at 22, a feminist icon at 50 and just doesnt. Theres more pictures to the side as well. If you havent read of it all. He grew up here. He grew up here. She is looking. She is looking. Cant recognise her face there. Shes 50. Shes 50. Shes 50. She was 22. She was 22. When no, but that didnt happened. She looks like a completely different person. Yeah yeah, yeah. So that she she an impressive and very, impressive and a very, very impressive individual. So whats she doing now. In business doing now. Is she in business doing ted talks and shes sort of like yeah. Yeah, yeah yeah. Yeah, yeah yeah. Shes finally making money out of what happened to her. And shes turned her life around. Its great. But who are the politicians that have personality . Well, you that have personality . Well, you dont tell me eamonn. Dont tell me eamonn. I mean, dont tell me you are bofis i mean, dont tell me you are boris prodigy, you know, and he is the definition of a charismatic, just politician. Yeah. The problem is charisma and nothing else. Beneath. Beneath. Beneath. Well, no, i mean, but this is the problem. Like boris. Uh of course im going to say this, but boris had an ability to connect with people who he in many ways had no right to connect with. Absolutely. And were going, were going to watch general election between watch a general election between two performers and two pretty stiff performers and two pretty stiff performers and two performers. But you know what . A lot of people dont quite still dont know who they are really. Speak from a lets just speak from a Northern Irish point of view. Um, know, we had a cat in um, you know, if we had a cat in here, it would know more about the in northern the agreement in Northern Ireland whats ireland and whats going on there attention to there. He has no attention to detail. Pays no attention detail. He pays no attention to detail. He pays no attention to detail. Spoken to so many detail. Ive spoken to so many civil servants, so many politicians that have worked around him. And you know what . Nobody rates him. Nobody, nobody rates him. Nobody, because he doesnt pay any attention. But i do take the whole point that you have that unfortunately, working class people in the north of england who should have nothing in common with, well, the leander troupe, absolutely nothing. Anderson boris lee anderson and Boris Johnson have in johnson should have nothing in common. Represent common. And yet they represent the sort of figurehead, the same sort of figurehead, really, of the same caucus of people. And its not just its not just the north of england. I mean, somebody was saying exactly their pub in the cotswolds , uh, which is close to cotswolds, uh, which is close to bofis cotswolds, uh, which is close to Boris Johnson, is absolutely split middle , with the split down the middle, with the middle classes refusing to speak to working class. To him and the working class. Got something in common hes got something in common with with donald trump. With boris, with donald trump. Tv personality. Thats hes a tv personality. Thats what he did. He made his he met his. Have i got news for you has got some apologies thing to do for that. But listen your your debate uh, do you have something in common with boris . And you shouldnt have. Who are the politicians that have any charisma . Please do let us know. Charisma . Please do let us know. Im trying to think i saw liz truss at cpac last week. Was she one of those politicians . She was scary. She was scary. She was scary. She was scary. She was scary in a good way. She was scary in a good way. Did anybody look to her and think theres a charismatic politician just asking the people she has . I mean, going again. I mean, im just going again. And thats likely to be heavy at times. Ill have all the details in the full forecast. Full forecast. And looking back at yesterday , and looking back at yesterday, today, a day of drama and tragedy for the Royal Household. Yes , Queen Camilla was front yes, Queen Camilla was front and centre. She led the royal family at a service of thanksgiving for the late King Constantine of greece at Windsor Castle yesterday. The prince of wales pulled out of a royal event to honour his late godfather because of whats as whats been described as a personal matter. While the king continued with his treatment for cancer and he was also not there i and mystery was then compounded by tragedy, as yesterday evening it was revealed that the son in law of the prince and princess michael of kent, thomas kingston, had died aged only 45. The royal correspondent and commentator michael cole. Lets get michaels opinion for, i dont know, michael , how you dont know, michael, how you would describe it, but there just seems to be a lot of illness going around, a lot of tragedy and going around and bad times for the royals. Give us your take. Good morning. Good morning isabel. Good morning. Good morning isabel. Absolutely. A lot of isabel. Absolutely. A lot of royal news around yesterday and none of it good. And i think our first thoughts must be for baby gabrielle. Ella, known as ella gabrielle. Ella, known as ella to everybody. She, um, finds to everybody. She, um, finds herself to be a widow at the age of 32. Uh, her husband, tom kingston , uh, found , uh, a house kingston, uh, found, uh, a house in gloucestershire yesterday. Uh obviously, the coroner will be called in for an unexpected or sudden death of this kind. Theyve only been married, and there they are on their wedding day. Indeed, at Saint Georges chapel day. Indeed, at Saint Georges chapel, windsor, where the Memorial Service was happening yesterday. They, um, as i say , yesterday. They, um, as i say, in 2019, they married just after your favourite couple, the duke and duchess of sussex. And they had their wedding reception or house where indeed sussex is also had theirs. He he uh a statement from the family and on behalf of his widow said that he was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of everybody who knew him. He was a financier. He was a in the city of london, uh, asset management. And so on. But hed had an earlier career working for the Foreign Office in baghdad for a number of years. It wasnt a play job. It wasnt just a in and out diplomatic posting. He was diplomatic posting. He was working there for peace and indeed he worked to negotiate hostage release while he was there. So we dont know what are there. So we dont know what are the circumstances of his death, but its a tragedy for that girl. There i met her at her fathers , um, Birthday Party, fathers, um, Birthday Party, uh, in 2022. They were both there , and she was acting as the there, and she was acting as the hostess. She was an absolutely charming person. And he was there, too. They seemed extremely happy. And also at extremely happy. And also at that same party was the man who was, um, remembered yesterday the Memorial Service King Constantine of greece. Um, he constantine of greece. Um, he didnt look in any good shape at all. He was walking on two sticks and then sitting down, but everybody was making a fuss of him. Of course he died, uh, last year, aged 82. And the Memorial Service was due to go ahead. And we saw his widow there walking with Queen Camilla as they came out of the service. Um and the extraordinary thing was, and its not unprecedented, but it is extremely unusual. Uh, shortly before the service for Prince William, who was due to give one of the readings, he pulled out and, uh, its been unexplained. And, uh, kensington unexplained. And, uh, Kensington Palace , his private office, said palace, his private office, said it was for personal reasons. Well, that can cover an awful lot, arent it . Dont know. So lot, arent it . Dont know. So they go ahead. Well i was going to say, michael, im going to bnngin to say, michael, im going to bring in grant russell at this. Grant, harold, forgive me at this point. Former butler to the king and good morning to you. Um, listen , we were just hearing um, listen, we were just hearing from michael there about how the prince and princess michael of kent, despite their own significant personal reasons, were still able to attend that thanksgiving memorial yesterday. Thanksgiving memorial yesterday. And yet, Prince William just three miles from the chapel where it was being held, pulling out at the last minute. But, i mean, this is alarming, is it not . I mean, how concerned are you about whats happening in the in the waleses household . The in the waleses household . Hey, good morning as well. And eamonn and hello, george. Um, absolutely. You i think this is an extremely concerned and because one thing i remember watching the Royal Household is that we know, the late that duty as we know, the late queen everything and queen came before everything and anything within reason and the fact that hes pulled out is , is fact that hes pulled out is, is theres obviously something not right now. The first thing that comes to mind is everybody will be thinking, obviously. Is it somebody his father . The somebody with his father . The king . Think that. King . I dont think that. I think its possibly it is something closer home. Something more closer to home. Uh, possibly something uh, its possibly something to do catherine, princess do with catherine, the princess of wales, because obviously she had um, surgery, uh, a few had that, um, surgery, uh, a few weeks lot of people weeks back. And a lot of people have said you know, there have said to me, you know, there have said to me, you know, there have been very quiet since shes had and obviously its had it done. And obviously its a personal matter. A very personal matter. So theyve discussed it theyve not discussed what it was about reasons, but was about the reasons, but it does concern because does cause concern because suddenly to pull due to a suddenly to pull out due to a personal situation , of course, suddenly to pull out due to a pecouldl situation , of course, suddenly to pull out due to a pecould be tuation , of course, suddenly to pull out due to a pecould be astion , of course, suddenly to pull out due to a pecould be as simple course, suddenly to pull out due to a pecould be as simple as urse, suddenly to pull out due to a pecould be as simple as one , suddenly to pull out due to a pecould be as simple as one of it could be as simple as one of the children is maybe going down with a cold flu or something, with a cold or flu or something, but immediately what i but i think immediately what i kind of think is something possibly do with the possibly more to do with the actual and just hope actual princess. And i just hope that isnt anything too that it isnt anything too serious. Again , william has serious. But again, william has decided in this occasion to put his family duty, which is his family before duty, which is not. Itsjust his family before duty, which is not. Its just its not unreasonable. Its just its quite unusual, uh, for them to do this. Well , as do this. Well, as michael pointed out, if not an official if theres not an official explanation, just leaves that explanation, it just leaves that void for speculation and doubt. Absolutely. And grant, i want you and then i want to bring michael in on this briefly tell me what your opinion is of Prince Andrew. Uh, being there. Now, look, this is a private , now, look, this is a private, um, family affair. Um, nothing huge official. Um, about what is going on. And yet theres a lot of controversy in the papers today about andrew being there. Would you cut him some slack being there, or what would you say . Its a difficult one, because ive always said that even though hes no longer a working member of the royal family, he is still a member of the family. And it is still obviously he. This is a relative to him. So i see no reason for him not to be there because i think at the end of the would he have done of the day would he have done that if william or charles had been there . We know that in the i mean, we know that in the past theyve particularly, i think, at Prince William, have objected him being in objected to him being in a prominent of prominent position because of the the papers. Do prominent position because of the think the papers. Do prominent position because of the think that, the papers. Do prominent position because of the think that, ase papers. Do prominent position because of the think that, as someers. Do prominent position because of the think that, as some are do you think that, as some are speculating , was taking speculating, he was taking advantage of vacuum advantage of that sort of vacuum of yesterday within the of power yesterday within the family . Its ive noticed it said that obviously you had senior royals and it said obviously the queen and then it did mention him. But i think this is where it becomes tricky. As youve becomes quite tricky. As youve mentioned, has obviously been kind discussed that kind of its been discussed that hes supposed to take a more back wardrobe. Think, again, back wardrobe. I think, again, because family, see because its been family, i see no for him to be in no reason for him not to be in there. But not it shouldnt have beenin there. But not it shouldnt have been in a kind of a significant or poignant know, as a or poignant role. You know, as a member the family. But member of the family. Yes. But certainly as a Senior Member certainly not as a Senior Member of family. Senior, of the family. The most senior, obviously, the queen. Obviously, was the queen. I think fact that the king and think the fact that the king and Prince William are obviously are not attend. Then will not able to attend. Then we will see of the royal see other members of the royal family time to time family from time to time stepping in. But think theyve stepping in. But i think theyve got be a little careful got to be a little bit careful who those are, because who those royals are, because were aware of what the were all aware of what the people feel. The public feel about of situation. About this kind of situation. Final, final word to you, michael. Well, i think its worth saying kensington saying that Kensington Palace were that the were briefing yesterday that the personal him personal reason which caused him to pull was to not do with to pull out was to not do with catherine, wales, catherine, princess of wales, and was making and and that she was making and continues to make a good recovery from her surgery. Um, recovery from her surgery. Um, and i think we have to accept that i and i think we have to accept thati do and i think we have to accept that i do think that, um, a little bit more candour at this moment would be quite helpful because , okay, if the prince of because, okay, if the prince of wales had a toothache or Something Like that, well, wed understand we are an understanding people. I think understanding people. I think they can take us into our comfort, into their confidence more and more. Well, they were more and more. Well, they were briefing quite well, i think, when she went into hospital and i was encouraged that theyd learned a few lessons from the past and they were being more candid. So i dont think they candid. So i dont think they candid. So i dont think they can be coy now because it it sets up speculation, rumour. Sets up speculation, rumour. Those are the last things that we want, particularly at this time when theres a lot of speculation about the health of the royal family. Lets know whats going on. Gentlemen , thank you both gentlemen, thank you both very much indeed. I suppose i very much indeed. I suppose i should ask you whats going on, because there will be people saying, why does he have waves outside window . Outside his window . Britannia , isnt very rule, britannia, isnt it . Yeah. This isnt the. Yeah, id love to see it through britannia and im actually. You. Through britannia and im actu im you. Through britannia and im actu im just you. Through britannia and im actu im just on you. Through britannia and im actu im just on my you. Through britannia and im actu im just on my wayou. Through britannia and im actu im just on my way to and im just on my way to mauritius on a on a ship. So thats why ive got. Fantastic. Its not a its not, its not a made image. Its actually on made up image. Its actually on a, but not britannia. Sadly you enjoy, my friend. Have a good time. Thank you both very much indeed. Good time. Thank you both very mu were eed. Good time. Thank you both very mu were going to turn our were going to turn our attention to politics now. And gb understands that the gb news understands that the suspense mp suspense mid tory mp lee anderson has held talks anderson has held private talks with leader of the reform with the leader of the reform party, richard tice, the party, richard tice, over the weekend, fuelling speculation party, richard tice, over the weeformeruelling speculation party, richard tice, over the weeformer conservative |lation party, richard tice, over the weeformer conservative party the former conservative party deputy to them. Okay, joining us now, political commentator andy williams. Andy, whats going on here . Well, you remember tony blair and Gordon Browns famous granita plot in the 90s when they met in a restaurant in islington and carved up the future of the labour party . Well, maybe this will be seen as the holiday in plot. The moment when the reform party got their first mp because it looks like lee anderson is seriously considering this. Um, i think considering this. Um, i think one really interesting question here. Putting to one side, uh, you know, the prospects for reform at the general election is what does this say about the reform about reform uk , if reform about reform uk, if theyre willing to welcome somebody into their party who has made the comments hes made , has made the comments hes made, which have been disowned by the conservative party and very, very unpopular across the country. Even the conservative party themselves cannot say why , why themselves cannot say why, why they have disowned him. You know they have disowned him. You know what he said was wrong, but why . Why . So if the conservative party themselves cant condemn him for anything, why shouldnt reform absorb him reform party absorb him when quite them to have quite frankly, for them to have an in parliament be an asset in parliament will be a game changer for them . Theres no doubt oh, theres no doubt about it, that for reform, they absolutely will welcome him with welcome with arms. It welcome him with open arms. It would be real coup. Would welcome him with open arms. It wo ad be real coup. Would welcome him with open arms. It wo a media real coup. Would welcome him with open arms. It wo a media coup. Oup. Would welcome him with open arms. It wo a media coup. Lee would welcome him with open arms. It wo a media coup. Lee anderson is be a media coup. Lee anderson is very individual, very prominent individual, not just channel but just on this channel but elsewhere. I thought it was elsewhere. Um, i thought it was remarkable that you remarkable yesterday that you had minister. Had a government minister. Excuse on tv and radio excuse me. Going on tv and radio five, six days after this all started and unable to say specifically why these comments were wrong, he was asked several times by i think it was nick ferrari on lbc. What was it specifically that lee ann said that was wrong and he couldnt say, well, ive been saying this all week. I have been absolutely saying this all week. Makes this this all week. What makes this racist . Everybodys jumping and saying, racist. Nobody saying, this is racist. Nobody is investigating and having a look at khan and saying, could the finger be pointed there or not . And if it cant, thats fine. Well, i do think i think the comments are are really wrong. And definitely he deserves to have been suspended because what if theyre right . Sorry. What if theyre right . Sorry. What if theyre right . Well, i dont think they are because think if you look at because i think if you look at what he said, which is he said islamists have of london islamists have control of london and khan is giving and sadiq khan is giving the capital away to his mates. Capital city away to his mates. If that about if you said that about the jewish there no jewish community, there is no doubt say these are doubt people would say these are anti semitic comments. If it is unacceptable, you know, language matters lee anderson says, matters. As lee anderson says, hes racist and lets take hes not a racist and lets take him at his hes not him at his word. Hes not a racist, but that is language thatis racist, but that is language that is unacceptable. But the point is, the conservative party cannot say what they accuse him and believe behind closed doors that he has this crime, that they believe hes committed because it will alienate it. Potentially. This caucus of voters who could get them re elected. And quite frankly, re elected. And quite frankly, you know , thats the difficult you know, thats the difficult position. Once again, rishi sunak finds himself between this rock and a place where he rock and a hard place where he is a lose lose situation. Is in a lose lose situation. That exactly the that is exactly the expression i was about use. Expression i was about to use. He totally caught between he is totally caught between a rock a hard place, and rock and a hard place, and reform much more reform have made life much more difficult because now difficult for him because now voters the right who agree voters on the right who agree with are going to with lee anderson are going to be flocking to reform. We can see that in the polls. Be flocking to reform. We can see so,t in the polls. Be flocking to reform. We can see so, andy,ie polls. Be flocking to reform. We can see so, andy, onolls. Be flocking to reform. We can see so, andy, on issues that so, andy, on issues that actually, rather than actually, you know, rather than the obsession that has the sort of obsession that has happened the political of happened in the political era of sort politics and sort of identity politics and hatred and a budget is somewhere where a government can really, you know , its to you know, put its name to something, what stands for, something, what it stands for, what in. Lots what it believes in. Lots of speculation thats speculation about what thats going week. Will going to mean next week. Will there these tax cuts . Will there be these tax cuts . Will they be meaningful in light . As eamonn out, all these eamonn points out, all these council that were council tax rises that were seeing. And also what about defence know Global Defence because we know Global Security the moment. Security is like at the moment. Its a huge moment this time next for me for next week for excuse me for jeremy come out and put jeremy hunt to come out and put forward an offer to the electorate that says the conservative party on your conservative party is on your side were going you side and were going to help you get through the cost of living crisis. I dont think theyre going to be to do it. Theres not to be able to do it. Theres not the money available for them to deliver meaningful cuts. Deliver for meaningful tax cuts. Were a 1 cut were looking at maybe a 1 cut in National Insurance. And hey, in National Insurance. And hey, who wouldnt welcome that great. Its going to save people a reasonable amount of money a yeah reasonable amount of money a year. But its not really going to be enough. Dont think, to to be enough. I dont think, to shift dial. If you look shift the dial. And if you look at for investment, at areas for investment, absolutely. Is one. What absolutely. Defence is one. What about infrastructure for which in this country is a complete mess . So many things mess . There are so many things that we need to be spending money on, im not quite sure money on, and im not quite sure where money is where all of this money is coming from. And on. And on. None of this talk deals with it, and i totally agree with you, andy, that there is such a mess in this country , whether mess in this country, whether its infrastructure, whether its infrastructure, whether its litter, whether its rebuilding the schools, whether its funding the nhs , i mean, its funding the nhs, i mean, and all the things that get all the publicity all the time, thats fine. But the things that dont get any publicity in the country is falling apart. Im afraid the last ten years, 10 to 15 years is absolutely an object lesson in what happens if you dont invest in Public Services. Yes. Yes. Well, though i do always come back to the point that this ten, 15 years, whatever you want to call it, there has been a pandemic, has been this pandemic, there has been this outbreak war europe. Outbreak of war in europe. Its expensive. Thats all im saying. Its expensive. Thats all im only1g. Its expensive. Thats all im only in the last three years. Only in the last three years. Only in the last three years. Are not here to present we are not here to present this it goes this programme when it goes right, here to present right, were here to present it. When wrong. When it goes wrong. But it cost money when it when it goes wrong. Well yeah, to detriment of our services. The whole point is when things go wrong, youre there to put thats thats the put it right. Thats thats the job have. And i just job that people have. And i just think the country, we dont even talk about the status and look at carers. Right. Were all going old. Were all going to get old. Were all going to get old. Were all going to get old. Were all going to need help somewhere. Nobodys anything about going to need help somewhere. Noyours anything about going to need help somewhere. Noyou pay anything about going to need help somewhere. Noyou pay them,1ything about going to need help somewhere. Noyou pay them, what,] about going to need help somewhere. Noyou pay them, what, £103ut going to need help somewhere. Noyou pay them, what, £10 an it. You pay them, what, £10 an hour . Whatever happens be, hour . Whatever it happens to be, theres loads of things theres just loads of things that we just allow lie to happen, and we allow our government to thing to happen. And the point is, we for and the point is, we pay for a lot of rubbish. We pay lot of rubbish. We pay for things that didnt used to things that we didnt used to pay things that we didnt used to pay we should stop pay for, and we should stop paying pay for, and we should stop paying for those things and pay for essential things. But if for the essential things. But if you country is in you think the country is in a mess and theres things that you say, no talks say, hey, no one ever talks about this , talk about this, about this, talk about this, make a list this morning of what we need to be talking about and what to be putting right what we need to be putting right gbviews gbnews. Com andy williams, lovely talking to you. You too. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Right. Lets have a look at what the weathers going to be up today. Its a kind of up to today. Its been a kind of few seasons in each for me. Few seasons in each day for me. Ive had sort of frost and rain and wind and sunshine and beautiful sunsets. Alex burke will you what can will tell you what you can expect today morning. Alex burke, and heres im alex burke, and heres your weather your latest gb news weather update. It is going to turn update. It is going to turn increasingly wet from west increasingly wet from the west as through today, but as we go through today, but for the being, theres the time being, theres some significant fog around, particularly of particularly across parts of England Wales, could cause england and wales, could cause some roads. If some problems on the roads. If youre heading early , but in youre heading out early, but in the west its a wet start to the day. Rain across initially day. Heavy rain across initially Northern Ireland pushing into parts england and parts of scotland, england and wales heavy, wales likely to turn heavy, particularly any higher particularly over any Higher Ground, over the ground, especially over the higher of wales all the Higher Ground of wales all the time, though across the southeast the uk staying southeast of the uk staying largely dry least during largely dry at least during Daylight Hours and for most of us mild picture, many us its a mild picture, many places getting into double figures but some strong figures but with some strong winds the rain going winds and in the rain its going to feel unpleasant at to feel pretty unpleasant at times. That rain then does reach the southeast go through the southeast as we go through this with further rain this evening, with further rain pushing west as we pushing in from the west as we go the end of the day. Go through the end of the day. Perhaps second band rain perhaps the second band of rain this evening and overnight will be intense. So be even more intense. So a greater chance of some localised impacts there will impacts due to that, there will be clearer skies following impacts due to that, there will be from learer skies following impacts due to that, there will be from the rer skies following impacts due to that, there will be from the north,es following impacts due to that, there will be from the north, the llowing him from the north, the northwest, as we go through the night. A bit night. Perhaps turning a bit chillier but towards the chillier here, but towards the southeast. Another mild night here through into here as we go through into thursday. Of a cloud de thursday. A bit of a cloud de wet picture to start the day across many parts of central southeastern england , that rain southeastern england, that rain eventually towards eventually clearing away towards the southeast. Brighter story the southeast. A brighter story across parts of scotland and Northern Ireland, though some blustery, showery weather pushing its way in and temperatures taking a bit of a drop. So although it will be mild again in the southeast, elsewhere little bit elsewhere turning a little bit chillier perhaps wintry chillier and perhaps some wintry ness over the higher by ness over the Higher Ground by still to come, were going to be talking to the police. Crime and fire minister. Thats chris about new thats chris philp about new security funding for mps as the risk of violence against them rises. Thats. Next welcome back. The government has announced new funding of £31 million to try and protect our democratic, democratic processes , including enhancement of security measures for locally elected representatives as well. Lets go to the police crime and fire minister. Thats chris philp. Chris, good morning to philp. Chris, good morning to you. Um, how serious is all of you. Um, how serious is all of this. And i dangerous and increasingly dangerous. Do you believe it is being a public representative of. Good morning. Representative of. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. We take it very seriously indeed. Its vital for democracy that elected representatives, members of parliament and others can discharge their duties without fear or intimidation. If mps cant do their jobs and use their judgement without any mps cant do their jobs and use theirjudgement without any sort their judgement without any sort of external intimidation , then of external intimidation, then democracy itself cant function. And were concerned because weve seen incidents recently where that line has been crossed. Weve seen a member of parliament, mike frears constituency office, subject to an arson attack. Weve seen a member of parliament, tobias ellwood, prevented from going to his own home by a large mob of protesters outside his private house. And just last friday, we saw an incident in stoke joke, where a Political Party political fundraising event had to had to be abandoned because because not only were protesters outside, but , uh, because not only were protesters outside, but, uh, some got inside as well and started harassing , inside as well and started harassing, um, the inside as well and started harassing , um, the people who harassing, um, the people who had attended the event. And in fact, four people in that in relation to that incident have now rightly been arrested by staffordshire police. So those are just three examples. Um, just from the last few weeks. Thats why were announcing today an extra £31 million of funding to help protect members, not just members of parliament, but also councillors, mayors , but also councillors, mayors, police and Crime Commissioners, as well. When it comes to the as well. When it comes to the election later in this year, candidates, because for democracy to function elected representatives and candidates have to be able to speak their mind, vote according to their conscience and their beliefs without any kind of intimidation. And thats why were taking these steps. Its sad indictment of its a sad indictment of where british politics has got to. Isnt it . How hatred has crept in. Do you feel some sympathy for sir Lindsay Hoyle , sympathy for sir Lindsay Hoyle, who lot of people saw who oversaw a lot of people saw as a bit of a farce in the commons last week because of concerns over mp safety . And do you share the views of the 86 mps now whove now signed a motion of confidence in him . Motion of no confidence in him . Hes in a very difficult and precarious position regarding his do blame it his future. Or do you blame it on sir keir starmer . On on sir keir starmer . Um, well, i dont think the government is taking a position on the edm, but i do think that it a very serious that Lindsay Hoyle made a very serious misjudgement because no one in pubuc misjudgement because no one in public life, whether thats the speaker of the house of commons or keir starmer, the labour leader, should be giving in to intimidation or pressure. The moment anyone gives in to intimidation or threats or pressure, which is essentially what keir starmer and Lindsay Hoyle did last week, then you are you are, um, sort of ceding the ground on which democracy stands. So it the ground on which democracy stands. So it was a the ground on which democracy stands. So it was a terrible, stands. So it was a terrible, terrible misjudgement. I think terrible misjudgement. I think hes probably recognised that himself now. Um, but that is one of the reasons why were taking these steps. We want all mps of all parties, whatever their views are, to be able to express those views, to vote and to speak without any sort of fear or intimidation. Because without that, democracy cant function. That, democracy cant function. Now, i think those seeking to intimidate are a tiny minority. Um, but we dont want a tiny minority , uh, to coerce or minority, uh, to coerce or intimidate democratically elected representatives, whether thats in parliament, local councils, mayors , police and councils, mayors, police and Crime Commissioners or candidates for Public Office should stop lying to lee. Anderson spoke his mind, didnt he . And he paid the price for it. Within the conservative party. Is there a way back for him into the conservatives and the many thousands of people who get in touch with this Program Every day . Or is it really the end of the sort of right wing members of the party, and is reform going to mop up all of those votes at the next election . Were hearing, arent we, that, uh, its very close to being announced that lee anderson will be joining reform. Anderson will be joining reform. Well, your first question thats really a matter for the Prime Minister. I think what he said was wrong, as you probably discussed a great deal over the last few days. But in relation to your question about confusion about that , well, look, i think about that, well, look, i think its not the, you know, conflating , uh, the whole muslim conflating, uh, the whole Muslim Community with islamists is wrong. What he said about sadiq khan, i dont think was true. Theres a lot of theres a lot to criticise in sadiq khan is a terrible mayor of london. Hes presided over an increase in knife crime just recently. Whereas in the rest of the country, knife crime has gone down. Sadiq khans record on crime is terrible , terrible on crime is terrible, terrible on pubuc crime is terrible, terrible on public transport. The ulez scheme is a disaster, but. But what . What lee anderson said , what . What lee anderson said, uh, wasnt true. And i dont think it was something people in responsible positions actually should say. But on reform, look, a vote for reform is effectively a vote for reform is effectively a vote for the labour party because it will simply let labour win. And, you know, having , uh, labour win. And, you know, having, uh, keir starmer as Prime Minister putting up taxes, uh, on borders, no plan on uh, weak on borders, no plan on anything is bad for britain, bad for the country and a vote for reform. Unfortunately will simply let labour in. And i would say to anyone considering doing that, you know, just think its a choice. Its a choice between the conservatives with a plan, you know, the small boat crossings are down 36. For example, inflation is down to 4 and falling. There is a plan and its working. The alternative. Its working. The alternative. Thank you very much indeed. Uh lets say goodbye to uh right. Lets say goodbye to the there and his the minister there and his friend behind him there, who, yes, deserves. What does he yes, deserves. What does he deserve . Well, certainly deserves well, it certainly deserves an for the language that an apology for the language that he on air. He just put out on air. Obviously, nothing to with he just put out on air. Ob\and, y, nothing to with he just put out on air. Ob\and, youthing to with he just put out on air. Ob\and, you know, to with he just put out on air. Ob\and, you know, it with he just put out on air. Ob\and, you know, it playsth he just put out on air. Ob\and, you know, it plays into us. And, you know, it plays into this thing about this whole thing about intimidation. An intimidation. There is an elected parliament elected member of parliament talking to people via the airwaves , legitimate way of airwaves, legitimate way of practising democracy. And he is trying to intimidate and influence that discussion. Influence that discussion. Unacceptable. And we do apologise for it. Right. Lets now go to wales and we have got um, uh, welsh farmer because later today thousands of them, maybe as many as 20,000 will march on the Welsh Parliament there. We say good morning to james fairlie. Good morning to james fairlie. Uh, james, uh, this is a whole problem, my friend, about the green agenda. You being you you trying to make a living and why is it becoming increasingly difficult , if not impossible for difficult, if not impossible for you . Good morning. Good morning. You . Good morning. Good morning. Um, were getting, uh, were getting beaten with a stick at all angles at the moment, to be honest. But, um, scotland havent followed suit yet. But as we all know, we tend to follow after what england do. And like to claim benefit for it. But in england at the moment theyre all offering huge subsidies for farmers to plant their land in grass and wild flower and, um , unfortunately, flower and, um, unfortunately, if weve not learned anything from the ukrainian russia war, its that , uh, during that its that, uh, during that period, obviously gas and electricity prices werent very high. The same is going to happen here if we try and import our food, if we think that we dont need to support the farmers and import , and we can farmers and import, and we can get the food imported , were get the food imported, were killing ourselves. Weve got to killing ourselves. Weve got to be sustainable. So are you saying if you get the same subsidies theyre getting in england, you could do this . Or are you against this . Or are you against everything. Well youve got to everything. Well youve got to weigh it up in minutes. Its. Its money for doing nothing. So in a time in the nothing. So in a time in the industry when, you know, labour is at shortage and machinery is at an all time high, our margins are getting squeezed and squeezed and squeezed. I dont squeezed and squeezed. I dont blame some of these guys in england if thats an option, but but it doesnt preside well for the future of the country. Now we all know its not hard. We need a farmer three times a day. Its very simple. Its the most needed industry in the whole system, and were taking it from complete. Granted, as though complete. Granted, as though its just there. And james, i get that. I know its tough. I wouldnt want to do your job. We see the protests that are going on in europe as well, but were dealing with Something Else, something bigger here. And its not everybody that takes what you do into consideration session. Um, ive got a guy called jim dale beside me. Jims a great guy. Hes a meteorologist. Hes also a social commentator. But goodness me , hes going to come from the me, hes going to come from the opposite side of the fence than you are on this in the modern day world. Jim what would you say to james . You hear how difficult it is for him, but what youre saying, hes going to have to hitch his wagon to this. Well, hes hes saying hes hes been hit from all sides. I agree with that. Actually. He actually is. But theres a bigger picture. Look, we spent the past. Im slightly angry this and you this morning. And ill tell you why. Why . We spent the why. Why . Because we spent the last week talking about somebodys okay. 30, somebodys mouth. Okay. 30, please. Mouth and this morning i look at the i look around the world. Look at extreme temperatures. The world is actually burning as we speak. Make it absolutely clear. Know make it absolutely clear. I know its news agenda. Its not in the news agenda. Ill take ill take you to the us, is it . Yeah. Look whats going on. This is the big picture. And it is for farmers. Picture. And it is for farmers. Make it absolutely clear theyve got little. Got got a little. Theyve got a little, um, saying that they put out their things. No farms, out on their things. No farms, no farmers, no food, no future. Um thats what put out. But um thats what they put out. But ill two things ahead of ill put two things ahead of that. No climate that. That is no Climate Mitigation , no sustainable mitigation, no Sustainable Farming. Then it can all farming. And then it can all follow. Theyve got to put the horse before the cart, not the cart before the horse. To me, theyre the world is burning today. Youre right, burning today. And youre right, when on our news when this is on our news programs, everybodys , weve programs, everybodys, oh, weve got this got to do something about this or whatever. Got to do something about this or whatethen away. And then it goes away. And then it goes away. No knows its even there. No one knows its even there. So where is the world burning today . The world is burning left, right. And centre. Asia. Look at america us, especially america today. Us, especially the middle part. Theres the middle part. Texas theres huge burning. Is. Huge wildfires burning. This is. Yes, and theres yes, it is. And theres wildfires in texas. Is wildfires in texas. This is wintertime. This is winter wintertime. This is winter time, not time. Some of time, not summer time. Some of the temperatures that are happening at this happening in in america at this moment time are ten and 15 moment in time are ten and 15 degrees above the all time records. What i want to know are you and he on different sides of the coin are saying we coin here are you saying if we just get our subsidies, if we get our grants, we can do this . Um, this , uh, Tree Planting um, this, uh, Tree Planting thing and Everything Else were supposed to do on our land. Supposed to do on our land. No. Well, ive actually been very proactive , uh, in fighting very proactive, uh, in fighting Climate Change. I built a biogas plant , so i Climate Change. I built a biogas plant, so i make renewable energy. I produce 4,000,000kw a year of power. Ive got solar panels. Weve got, uh, half share in our 500 kilowatt turbine. All these renewable projects have been quashed. The Grant Funding that came with them. They have been completely demolished. So invested in renewables now is very, very tncky renewables now is very, very tricky position. Yeah so jim, let me just come back to jim on that because the problem is if you alienate farmers in all of this, you know, then youre actually going to have a worse situation with the because as we the environment because as we know, and pleasant know, our green and pleasant land country, land in this country, predominantly are predominantly farmland, are hedgerows farmers. Hedgerows maintained by farmers. If it, concrete at if we pave over it, concrete at all, dont look after our all, we dont look after our farmers, not only does our diet go downhill, but so does our environment. It look, as i said, yeah, it look, as i said, theres a lot of sympathy there and glad actually , and im really glad actually, that you are moving towards Sustainable Farming because that is the direction of travel. Theres a of education theres a lot of education thats in this. Theres a lot of education thats in this. I really thats lost in this. I really believe we need to get believe that we need to get educated in terms of the climate, what its doing Sustainable Living that the cbi came out with a report a couple of days ago saying that if we dont move in this direction, thatis dont move in this direction, that is farming and industry per se, then we will be left behind by the rest of the world. And it is people like richard tice come on here. And they even say that the Climate Change is not happening. Its pathetic. Its happening. Its pathetic. Its pathetic. And look, well, look, when they when these guys are protesting, i said, well its parliament today. Its going to be very be, uh, not frenetic, but frantic really. I suppose. And we look at whats happening in europe now. Now lets you and me talk. Um, james, good luck to you. And what you have to do today. We just got to leave it here. Were going to about the going to talk about the environment now and in more detail and whats detail with jim and whats making you so mad . Whats making you so mad . Why i think its i think its the focus. Um, look, going to focus. Um, look, im going to look these look how these these demonstrations and its demonstrations go, and its almost the opposite side of just so example, who now, if so oil, for example, who now, if they walk the streets, they get arrested. Whats going they walk the streets, they get arresteurope. Whats going they walk the streets, they get arresteurope. And whats going they walk the streets, they get arresteurope. And itsts going they walk the streets, they get arresteurope. And its a. Going they walk the streets, they get arresteurope. And its a biting on in europe. And its a bit like getting away with it. Its dying. Its dying. Its dying. Its the dying because theyve caught up. Theyve theyve not caught up. Theyve not seen whats not theyve not seen whats coming in front of them. Why because the media agenda has basically been not on it. I come in here every often getting in here every so often getting a fair wage for theyre fair wage for what theyre producing. Fair wage for what theyre pro thats do with thats to do with supermarkets. Has also been supermarkets. It has also been yes, brexit. Its farmers, yes, it is brexit. Its farmers, which were flagging at which the nfu were flagging at just week. So you know we just last week. So you know we cant put all the on its cant put all the blame on its multi multi reasons. But behind all that but right behind all of that and supersedes of that and that supersedes all of that is climate. You cant grow is the climate. You cant grow anything ground is dry anything if your ground is dry and rotten or in this case flooded. Yeah weve just basically youre saying if we dont look after that and who dont look after the ground and we dont see to these people and grant them accordingly, were all were doomed, soapy bubble. Were absolutely there. Make it absolutely clear we will arrive in what, 28 today . Is it 29th tomorrow . The leap year isnt it . Uh probably. Arguably were going to see the wettest february in the uk on record. Certainly certain parts of it for, for a state. And therell be some farmers out there who are under water simply as that. You dont grow things under water very apart from water very easily apart from seaweed. Okay. And thats the seaweed. Okay. And thats the direction of travel. So we have to get real. Come away from talking title tattle of talking about title tattle of somebodys mouth. All week and get on to this subject. You know, i think of people that i would consider, you know , who would consider, you know, who are interested in the are very interested in the environment and conservation, are very interested in the enviistartent and conservation, are very interested in the enviistart to and conservation, are very interested in the enviistart to shrug onservation, are very interested in the enviistart to shrug theirvation, who start to shrug their shoulders now and say , theres shoulders now and say, theres nothing we can do here. China, india, theyre theyre the big offenders. We can all live a very clean, green lifestyle. And actually the climate is still totally doomed anyway. Yeah, but i think theyre moving faster than we are. Moving faster than we are. Thats the whole point. Thats the whole point of the cbi coming out with their reports saying to catch up saying we need to catch up because behind. Because were behind. Jim, jim, get that not but jim, jim, i get that not arguing that. Arguing against that. The awful dilemma. But heres the awful dilemma. How like fairly how do people like james fairly earn a living . Earn a living . Do you know what you look back in history and you say, okay, lets go back to the coal mines. And when they started to shut down and theres a big argument, oh, we need to keep them of because them because of because of livelihoods. Look, livelihoods. And look, life moves on in. Theres a transition thats got to happen from farming and its moving on. You you heard from james and hes saying hes doing various things. Think farmers things. I think more farmers need like that. Um, and need to think like that. Um, and there wouldnt be so many problems. But, you know, a lot of problems that theyve of these problems that theyve got stem from oil in actual fact, price oil, the fact, the price of oil, the price fertilisers, lack price of fertilisers, the lack of labour farms because of of labour in farms because of brexit make it absolutely clear. Brexit make it absolutely clear. So, you know, the elephant in the room , theres a of them. The room, theres a few of them. Lets that absolutely clear lets make that absolutely clear. Elephants the are. The elephants in the room are oil, brexit and education in terms of what the climates doing. And thats why it is so important. Five minutes ago, ten minutes ago was talking about how i think the whole society is society is broken and the world is doomed. And youve just added to that and jim, we should have you on regularly. We should talk. Should get update, not. We should get an update, not just one off on these. Youre just a one off on these. Youre right. And we need know. Right. And we need to know. I didnt was burning didnt know texas was burning today reported on. No, today and its reported on. No, no british news programs, radio or television. And thats the scale. And its not just texas. Its big parts of the world. Believe me, thailand and other places going. Im not saying up in flames, but their temperature are well in excess of are just well, well in excess of where they should be. And that is warning to is a massive warning to ourselves Going Forward 2024. Ourselves Going Forward in 2024. Jim thank you very much indeed. Well see you again soon. And uh, the farmers today, i really sympathise with you, really sympathise with you, really sympathise. I wouldnt want to sympathise. I wouldnt want to do your job. I couldnt do your job. And as jim dale saying, you may have to move on from your job if we are to save the world bank this. All right. Joining us to go through what is making the news this morning, former adviser to bofis this morning, former adviser to Boris Johnson, Oscar Reddrop and former labour adviser Scarlett Mccgwire. To the papers mccgwire. Welcome to the papers once again. Mccgwire. Welcome to the papers once again. Um, mccgwire. Welcome to the papers once again. Um, where should we once again. Um, where should we start . Scarlett . Were not going start . Scarlett . Were not going to scarlett. First, were going to scarlett. First, were going to you. Oscar. Um, we need to go to you. Oscar. Um, we need to go to you. Oscar. Um, we need to start, i suppose. Really, with the with the big story of the and Lee Andersons come the day and Lee Andersons come out and we are out all guns blazing, and we are reporting exclusively at gb news of this hilton hotel and of this hilton hotel plot. And it though they are in it looks as though they are in advanced talks with possibly moving to reform. Moving to reform. Uh, it does feel like thats the direction of travel. Theres probably an probably mutually beneficial at this point. Um, i think its we are probably over the, uh, the media wise concentrating on the issue now. I think things probably, you know, in the spirit of calming tensions, which was you know, a big initial problem with what lee said. I think its probably best that we in some ways move on, uh, to other issues. Having said that, i think the important thing to remember about this story is that what what lee does bnng story is that what what lee does bring to the table is he does speak really candidly. Plainly. Thats rare with politicians. The amount of guys you , uh, the amount of guys you, uh, probably interviewed and you just feel like youre not a human being. Youre completely human being. Youre completely shape shifting , and i have no shape shifting, and i have no idea. I cant just not talking to me like a person. Lee does talk like a normal person. And theres something to be said. A lot of politicians dont because you get shot down. What you say, like you well, what you say, like you behind the scenes. No, a huge advocate. I find it so tiring watching politicians not be human beings. I find it so tiring watching politi but; not be human beings. I find it so tiring watching politi but if|ot be human beings. I find it so tiring watching politi but if you e human beings. I find it so tiring watching politi but if you are, man beings. I find it so tiring watching politi but if you are, then beings. I find it so tiring watching politi but if you are, then look|s. Yeah, but if you are, then look what happens. But point, he was well, but my point, he was not being a human plainly with about being offensive and he was not being, i mean , this wasnt not being, i mean, this wasnt clumsy speech. What he said was deeply , what he said was deeply, deeply offensive. And wrong. I mean, to talk about its true. Khan and his mates. Right i mean , just because sadiq khan is a muslim does not mean that, you know that hes an extremist. It is. I know that hes an extremist. It is. I mean, know that hes an extremist. It is. I mean, if know that hes an extremist. It is. I mean, if you say the word, if you put jew instead , he would if you put jew instead, he would have been called anti semitic and hed have been gone like that, but also, hes just wrong. I mean , we live in london. We i mean, we live in london. We know its not been taken over by islamist. I know its not been taken over by islamist. I mean, you know, Michelle Dewberry was saying on her programme, they have a month long pride , uh, march we have we long pride, uh, march we have we have, um , uh, zebra crossings have, um, uh, zebra crossings that are, you know, that are in the rainbow. This is this. So a lee was completely wrong, but b, he was he was he was deeply , he was he was he was deeply, deeply offensive to all muslims saying, you know, khan and his islam list mates. Terrible. We didnt say islamist mates. He said his mates. Mhm. His mates. Yes. But it was his mates. Yes. But it was youre a similar islamist. No. He called, he talked about islamist. He really did. I mean it was appalling. Right okay. Okay. And your views let us okay. And your views let us know. Gb views news ag what is it . Gb views news gbnews. Com. Com. Yeah. Um, okay. Yeah. Um, okay. Lets move on from that story and lets talk about the uphill struggle. Um, for campaigners as theyre ordered to restore the crooked pub space, this is a lovely story. So this this, this is about the this crooked pub. The nature the this crooked pub. The nature of this pub. Yeah. The most crooked pub in. No we dont have a picture. So this has all user. So this has all user. Dont worry, ill find it. Dont worry, ill find it. Im going to tell you its here. Isabel. Here it is. Isabel. Here it is. That gets me. Is that this pub was completely flattened out completely. So nothing exists. Not even the conservatory at the back or whatever. It is awful. I back or whatever. It is awful. I have idea, scarlett. How they have no idea, scarlett. How they would that. Would rebuild that. I dont know, but they are. They have been ordered to. They flattened it. It was quite, you know , the pub burnt out. It was know, the pub burnt out. It was then totally demolished without permission and now the reason for this was it was blocking. For this was it was blocking. It was an entrance that would have blocked a new Housing Development or something. Development or something. It was going to stop people from making money. Absolutely. And south Staffordshire Council has ordered the owners to rebuild the pub and how theyre going to rebuild it, to make it look crooked. I dont know, but they should never have knocked it down in the first place. It was it was it meant something to an awful lot of people in britain, and particularly the locals locals. This this locals and the locals. This this came about because of a campaign as all the best pubs do. You have a favourite pub . Do you have a favourite pub . Eamonn can have pubs eamonn yeah, you can have pubs just karaoke here. Just for karaoke here. Just the character of yeah, just the character of it anything. I mean yeah, just the character of it not anything. I mean yeah, just the character of it not a, anything. I mean yeah, just the character of it not a, im nything. I mean yeah, just the character of it not a, im not|ing. I mean yeah, just the character of it not a, im not a g. I mean yeah, just the character of it not a, im not a drinker,in yeah, just the character of it not a, im not a drinker, so im not a, im not a drinker, so it wouldnt really matter. But when you, go to when you, when you go to somewhere has got atmosphere. Yeah , exactly. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. Is the thing. This that is the thing. But this is so individual i just dont know. Im sure there are no plans of it or how it actually became lopsided or whatever, but were saying, well done and were all saying, well done and stick that one up your pipe and smoke it nicely, and well be smoking some more right after this short break. Took away you could ask you both. Were talking about our farmers marching on the Welsh Parliament today, and they feel theyre not getting the same grants to rewild their their land as engush rewild their their land as english farmers are. For instance, we look at those protests that are going on in europe. They are absolutely massive, maybe 21,000 farmers in cardiff today. And things are expected to change. And what im really getting at is its not a good time to be a farmer when someone going to stand up and say, we havent got a policy to support farmers and if we have a son are going to be to to a a small level. And as a farmer, youre youre in the wrong career. This yesterdays career. This is yesterdays news. Has been going on news. But this has been going on for years. News. But this has been going on for iears. News. But this has been going on for i mean, i have read stories i mean, i have read stories about welsh sheep farmers going broke. I mean, for at least 50 broke. I mean, for at least 50 years. I mean , it it is really years. I mean, it it is really tough if you are a small farmer that i mean, you know, there are masses of big farmers. I mean, massive big farmers. But if massive big farmers. But if youre a small family farm, it is incredibly difficult. And then as you say, eamonn or you have said earlier , this one, the have said earlier, this one, the supermarkets , i mean, always supermarkets, i mean, always trying to keep the price down, obviously trying to keep the food prices down for us, but actually take margin for them. Precisely and oscar, ahead of the budget next week, the telegraph are running a story about lower taxes for our youth in this country because they believe youth in this country are inherently capitalist. Explain that one. I think its a slightly clumsy phrase. I think what it what i think what i do agree with and what i think its trying to get at is that, uh, young people , uh, i think are young people, uh, i think are often and its very difficult branding issue for the conservatives, you know, i mean, theyre running out of people to, uh, to displease in a way, but particularly young people. But particularly young people. And actually, there is a place for young people in conservatism. I think if you sell it to them as a way of like, well, if youre of a bit of a youre a bit of a bit of a wheeler dealer, a bit of a mover and shaker, and you want to make things happen for yourself, your family, care family, the people you care about you, actually, about around you, then actually, conservatism a good way conservatism is quite a good way to go. Um, if you want to make things happen, youre doer things happen, if youre a doer and they say like all and i think they say like all most organisations are, of most organisations are, 90 of people do and 10 of people who dont do and 10 of the people, the rainmakers who do. Thats do. And i think thats a messaging point weve messaging point that weve lost with people. Um and, you with younger people. Um and, you know, lowering taxes is and i know, lowering taxes is and i know we go round in circles on it because how do we lower taxes when got money . Well when weve got no money . Well i mean, as also you mean, especially as also you could that the could argue that the conservative finances are skewed towards the older because the older demographic traditionally vote for if they wanted to vote for them if they wanted to help these inherently capitalist entrepreneurs, as perhaps they should youth should have some youth orientated incentives rather orientated tax incentives rather than age incentives, for sure. Than age incentives, for sure. And i completely agree with that. And its just a really odd anomaly for me, because young people are actually not these lazy kind of, you know, sort snowflakey woke like young people are actually very good at getting on and doing stuff and, you know, sometimes selfish reasons, just because they want to make things happen for themselves. Dont themselves. And i just dont think conservatives that think conservatives talk to that large , large proportion of young large, large proportion of young people well enough at all. I mean, i, i think whats so funny is, is, is the telegraph doing the because the doing the story because the telegraph the mail spend telegraph and the mail spend their whole time saying lazy their whole time saying how lazy young people are, how snowflake , young people are, how snowflake, i mean, sarah vine writes whole articles about young people not knowing anything and being so oversensitive and yeah, i mean, both be true. Cant young people be, you know, dynamos and entrepreneurial but also perhaps more sensitive than ever . Well, yeah. Because were cosseting only on monday. They were lazy because they never turned up to work. And i never turned up to work. And i think, i think i mean, and obviously, you know, the real problem. Um, and can i say young problem. Um, and can i say young people have got to get out and vote because that is the only way to change things, as long as its the old who vote, its the old whos going to get, whos going to get everything. Im old and i dont want to vote for any of them. Thats fine. None of them. Id look and say, represent, represent me or what i stand for or who i am. So i think thats increasingly true for a lot of people. I think the sort of traditional positions have gone, and feel sort of and a lot of people feel sort of politically homeless. There is a whole yes, yes, there is a whole book feeling politically homeless. Okay. Okay. Okay. We might i look forward to reading that. Thank you very much indeed , scarlett. And thank much indeed, scarlett. And thank you, oscar, much appreciated. Uh, are you going to appreciate the weather . Good morning, alex burkill. Lets find out. Burkill. Lets find out. That warm feeling inside from boxt boilers sponsors of weather on. Gb news. On. Gb news. Morning. Im alex burkill and heres your latest gb news weather update. It is going to turn increasingly wet from the west as we go through today, but for the time being, theres some significant around , significant fog around, particularly of particularly across parts of england , could cause england and wales, could cause some on roads. If some problems on the roads. If youre heading out early. But in the west its a wet start to the day. Rain across initially day. Heavy rain across initially Northern Ireland pushing into parts england parts of scotland, england and wales turn heavy, wales likely to turn heavy, particularly any higher particularly over any Higher Ground, over the ground, especially over the higher of wales all the Higher Ground of wales all the time, though across the southeast uk staying southeast of the uk staying largely dry, at least during Daylight Hours. And for most of us a mild picture, many us its a mild picture, many places getting into double figures some strong figures but with some strong winds and in the rain its going to feel pretty unpleasant at times. Rain then does reach times. That rain then does reach the as we through the southeast as we go through this evening further rain this evening with further rain pushing from the west we pushing in from the west as we go through end the day, go through the end of the day, perhaps band of rain perhaps the second band of rain this overnight will this evening and overnight will be intense, so a be even more intense, so a greater some localised greater chance of some localised impacts. That, there will impacts. Due to that, there will be clearer skies following be some clearer skies following him the north, the him from the north, the northwest, as we go through the night, perhaps turning a bit chillier but towards chillier here, but towards the southeast. The full forecast. Top story were leading with this morning. Day of drama and tragedy in the Royal Household. Tell us more is about Queen Camilla was front and centre as she led the royal family. Yesterdays service of thanksgiving for the late King Constantine of greece at Windsor Castle. So the prince of wales pulled out of this. It was to honour his late godfather because of whats been described as a personal matter. While the king continued with his treatment for cancer and wasnt available. And then mystery was compounded, compounded by tragedy , as yesterday evening it tragedy, as yesterday evening it was revealed that the son in law of the prince and princess michael of kent, thomas kingston , had died at the age of 45. Lets speak to vanity fair royal editor katie nichol, who joins us now. So many things. Where do you want to begin on this one, katie . Well , i this one, katie . Well, i think it i think it would be wrong to not start with the very tragic and sudden death of tom kingston. He was just 45. Of tom kingston. He was just 45. And, you know , doesnt really and, you know, doesnt really matter. Lady gabriella windsors order in the line of succession. Order in the line of succession. I mean, shes way down there, so it doesnt affect the line of succession in any way. But for the royal family, this is a deep shock and a real tragedy. And for everyone that knew them as a family. And i think the very personal nature of the statement that of buckingham that came out of Buckingham Palace, who announced the news last night was pretty last night, was pretty shocking for everyone. So a very, very for everyone. So a very, very moving day. And as you say, at moving day. And as you say, at the of a day high drama the end of a day of high drama with prince of wales with the prince of wales pulling out at the 11th hour from the Memorial Service of his godfather, King Constantine, and the context to all of that, because, you know, the prince and princess of kent and princess michael of kent were at that. They were themselves knowing what were to find out later what we were to find out later that their son in that evening about their son in law, described an law, they described as an extraordinary he had an extraordinary man. He had an amazing didnt i amazing career, didnt he . I think in the Foreign Office and in as well. And actually in finance as well. And actually an ex of Pippa Middleton as well. Lot to lots of well. So so a lot to lots of people. But they still managed to attend that service. And yet the prince of wales, he lives just what, three miles from the front door of the chapel, wasnt able for personal reasons. Able to go for personal reasons. So a lot of people really concerned about what is going on in the waleses household at the moment, understandably so. 50. So. When consider when you consider the context. We were told that williams absence nothing to williams absence had nothing to do news about tom do with the news about tom kingston. It had nothing to do with the health. And with the kings health. And as we the kings weeks we know, the kings just weeks into cancer diagnosis into a shock cancer diagnosis and undergoing treatment. In and undergoing treatment. And in fact, was leaving fact, the king was seen leaving windsor or so before windsor an hour or so before the service to come to london. We understand, for meetings and or treatment. So we werent expecting him at expecting to see him at yesterdays memorial , expecting to see him at yesterdays memorial, but we were not only expecting to see the wales, we were the prince of wales, we were expecting him. In expecting to hear from him. In fact, name had been fact, his name had been published the order of published on the order of service. Now you isabel service. Now you know, isabel and eamonn, that a royal pulling out before an event. It out an hour before an event. It simply doesnt happen. They do simply doesnt happen. They do not to let people down. Not like to let people down. I mean, never late, let mean, theyre never late, let alone out of something. Alone pulling out of something. So to pull of something for so to pull out of something for an important family member, as i said, it williams godfather said, it was williams godfather was unusual. When you was absolutely unusual. When you put context of the put that in the context of the princess of wales, who, lets not forget, hasnt been seen since day and who has since Christmas Day and who has undergone clearly very serious surgery. We understand abdominal surgery. We understand abdominal surgery. I mean, a 13 night stay in hospital. I think indicates the severity of that. Who hasnt the severity of that. Who hasnt been seen since . Who we been seen since . Who we understand isnt going to be seen until well after easter. It it is obviously concerning. I must add that when we got that statement out of the palace, it was caveated with a subsequent sort of guidance memo that, you know, the princess of wales is continuing recovery. Well continuing her recovery. Well which i think is intended as reassurance for an obviously, i think its not its not an overstatement to say panicked pubuc overstatement to say panicked public and, you know, we totally understand that where there is an absence of detail becomes speculation. But on the other hand, you know, this is quite clearly a personal matter. And they have to be allowed. It is absolutely. And whatever that might be, i think its incredibly important that they get that space. That they do get that space. I think also worth and i think its also worth pointing that weve had pointing out that weve had quite level of quite an incredible level of transparency in transparency from the palace in terms these medical terms of these medical conditions, more so from the king, so from the king, though more so from the king, though more so from the king, and it always made king, and it was always made clear catherine, the clear that for catherine, the princess wales, wanted princess of wales, she wanted this now one this to remain private. Now one day may talk about but day she may talk about it, but right think its a case of right now i think its a case of her having to get better for her family and the duties that family and for the duties that lie of her. Lie ahead of her. Should we focus on Prince Andrew . I mean, where hard not to really, isnt it . Where there was a lack of the king and our future king was Prince Andrew, and you know how times have changed. I mean, he was in hiding for a long period of time. Do you think that the king and Prince William sanctioned his prominence yesterday . His prominence yesterday . Um, they would have um, well, they would have expected andrew to be there. And i think when you also consider the last time we saw Prince Andrew taking a prominent andrew taking such a prominent role, it also christmas role, it was also on Christmas Day. It was at the church on christmas sandringham. Christmas day at sandringham. You a family you know, he is still a family member. He may not be carrying out duties a working member out duties as a working member of royal family. Of the royal family. As i think in the tribe as well, i think in and know, you know, the and you know, you know, the opfics and you know, you know, the optics are not great, are they. Prince doesnt get it prince still doesnt get it front the this front of the mirror this morning. You know, it didnt go unnoticed. That no unnoticed. Put it that way. No and i think the optics dont look great. Mean, dont forget and i think the optics dont looimanat. Mean, dont forget and i think the optics dont looiman who mean, dont forget and i think the optics dont looiman who were dont forget and i think the optics dont looiman who were watchingget the man who were watching images now a images of now is still a counsellor of state. That means he can technically still stand in for monarch the in for the monarch if the monarch is incapacitated. However, has recently however, parliament has recently changed cant changed the rules. He cant because hes not a working member but member of the royal family. But it stop him it doesnt seem to stop him being family engagements and being at family engagements and i think part of the problem with andrew is this assumption that when there is an opportunity to take the lead, he seems far too ready and willing do it. Ready and willing to do it. I mean , had i been in charge of mean, had i been in charge of those optics, what would have been having the been so wrong of having the Princess Royal there and Queen Camilla, who is sort of arrived last, her her position last, that was her her position in the rank of seniority. And, in the rank of seniority. And, you know, Queen Camilla could perfectly well have taken the lead, could the princess lead, so could the Princess Royal. Um, you know , there were royal. Um, you know, there were other members the other Senior Members of the royal family there who are working members the royal working members of the royal family. Problem theyre working members of the royal fanpretty problem theyre working members of the royal fanpretty old oblem theyre working members of the royal fanpretty old at lem theyre working members of the royal fanpretty old at the theyre working members of the royal fanpretty old at the moment. All pretty old at the moment. Im alexandra was there im Princess Alexandra was there in right. In a chair right. Lets get into real okay, lets get into the real world. Um, somebody like the queen will be worried about her hat staying her and hat staying on her head. And what shes to do and who what shes going to do and who shes going to greet and whatever, whatever. They want somebody this. Its like somebody to do this. Its like funerals. An funerals. Theres always an organised. Always funerals. Theres always an organised. That always funerals. Theres always an organised. That takes nays funerals. Theres always an organised. That takes charge at somebody that takes charge at funerals, theyre looking funerals, and theyre looking for show us to our pew. Who for him. Show us to our pew. Who makes sure who gets the song sheets or the whatever they are the whatever. I dont know what theyre called. Um, but somebody theyre called. Um, but somebody to take charge. And thats all he now why are getting he did. Now why are you getting so annoyed this . So annoyed about this . Dont think the because i dont think the i dont think optics are good. Dont think the optics are good. Were at royal family were looking at a royal family thats increasingly done. Just stared in the background and left Timothy Lawrence or something. I think so, i think so because i think its making headunes because i think its making headlines all the wrong headlines for all the wrong reasons. A time when the reasons. At a time when the royal family looks vulnerable , royal family looks vulnerable, you Andrew Centre royal family looks vulnerable, you when Andrew Centre royal family looks vulnerable, you when do Andrew Centre royal family looks vulnerable, you when do you rew centre royal family looks vulnerable, you when do you put centre royal family looks vulnerable, you when do you put andrew stage when do you put Andrew Centre stage . I dont think you do. I think i think its i think lost that it absolutely. I mean hes, hes been demoted from all royal duties. Hes essentially been pushed out. I mean that was the late queens decision to do that so this idea that hes that. So this idea that hes i think trying to sort of inveigle his back here, i think is his way back in here, i think is pretty distasteful. And i think, you know, for he really you know, for the if he really has the royal family and the good of the royal family in his intentions, then he should gracefully and with dignity step back. There are other people that can go and show someone to their pews, or lead the royal family out of Saint Georges. It doesnt need to be him. Family out of Saint Georges. It doeint need to be him. Family out of Saint Georges. It doei saweed to be him. Family out of Saint Georges. It doei saw lastto be him. Family out of Saint Georges. It doei saw last week him. Family out of Saint Georges. It doei saw last week the. Family out of Saint Georges. It doei saw last week the toll i saw last week the toll thats taking on the king. You know, he tearful going know, he was tearful going through all well wishers through all the well wishers that and clearly that hes received and clearly an time for and an emotional time for him. And yet think his son, yet today, i think his son, prince harry, his case is up before the courts this time in relation to security. He yet more headlines. I mean he was described prince of described as the prince of litigation in this morning. Is this kind of publicity that this the kind of publicity that the family at the moment . Look, when you consider the start its been start to this year, its been its gotten off very, very its gotten off to a very, very shaky start indeed. And, you know, it was always part of the kings, um , master when he kings, um, master plan when he became sovereign to have prince harry there by his side. It was williams intention to have prince harry there as his wingman, and actually see if he was here in a working capacity. I think the royal family would be looking less vulnerable. But be looking less vulnerable. But clearly theres far too much water under the bridge for that to happen okay, katie to happen now. Okay, katie nicholl, a pleasure. Nicholl, always a pleasure. Thank you. Thank you yeah. Thank you. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you. Uh, from matters to politics, from royal matters to politics, gb understands that tory mp gb news understands that tory mp lee who of course, is lee anderson, who of course, is suspended the party, has suspended from the party, has held private talks with the leader of reform , richard tice, leader of reform, richard tice, over the weekend. And what this over the weekend. And what this will do is fuel speculation in that he will defect to them. Lets go to our reporter. Political correspondent Katherine Forster on this one for more detail. Katherine forster on this one for more detail. Well, for more detail. Well, catherine, tell us more. Catherine, tell us more. Yes. Good morning eamonn, and isabel. So it was last saturday afternoon that the whip was removed from lee anderson following those comments about sadiq khan, the mayor of london and islamists and at that time, richard tice, the leader of the reform party, was in doncaster, having their spring conference. I interviewed him twice. I asked him about lee anderson. He said hes got my number and we now find out that the very next morning, richard tice, on his way back from , um, south way back from, um, South Yorkshire and met, uh, lee anderson at a holiday inn on the m1, close to Lee Andersons constituency. Now of course, we dont know what they discussed, but clearly reform would love of lee anderson to go over to them. Lee anderson to go over to them. It would be a big win for them. Their currently up to 13 in the polls is doing very well, appealing to lots of disaffected conservative voters. But despite conservative voters. But despite the fact they might get millions of votes at the next election, um , because their votes will be um, because their votes will be spread thinly across the country , its unlikely that theyll get many or indeed any seats. But if lee anderson, who is a big figure , went over to reform , he figure, went over to reform, he could well win that seat in a general election. So good, very general election. So good, very good for reform. If it happens. Good for reform. If it happens. We dont know. Of course. Um that it will. Uh, number 10, i think the reason that they have repeatedly said that Lee Andersons comments are wrong and not acceptable, but not labelled them islamophobic or racist is because they really wish this hadnt happened. They dont want to lose him. Theyd like. There to be a way back for him. Hes very valuable to the him. Hes very valuable to the conservative party, but with all these interviews that lee anderson , um, is giving and anderson, um, is giving and doubung anderson, um, is giving and doubling down on his comments, saying he wont apologise while theres breath in his body, um, that looks less and less likely. That looks less and less likely. He Katherine Forster. That looks less and less likely. He Katherine Forster. Thank you very much indeed. You very much indeed. Thanks, everybody. Today are the annual fish and chip shop awards being held in london. The winner will be on the programme tomorrow morning and. But you scott youre talking scott. Youre talking about price about taste, about the names of shops. Darren says its called father and sultan. Battered are two shops that he knows with good names. As steve says, my favourite name in sheffield was salt and battered and john in basingstoke says the best fish and chips are to be found in fish btec like discotheque, just outside london. Its been there since 1972 and strong going. And since 1972 and strong going. And if youre from Northern Ireland, a lot of you telling us the good name there is, there is a political phrase for god and ulster and the chip shop first, thatis ulster and the chip shop first, that is , for cod and ulster. So that is, for cod and ulster. So dannys got a good one in long eaton in derbyshire. He said his fish and chip shopis he said his fish and chip shop is called the cod scallops, which i like as well. Keep those coming in. Theyre making us smile. Appreciate it. Treasury meanwhile, the Treasury Committee has published the latest suggesting that 2. 7 latest data suggesting that 2. 7 of accounts are held by Small Businesses, were closed and cancelled by their banks last yeah cancelled by their banks last year. That means over 141,000 small to medium businesses were closed by banks. Well, joining us now is our economics and business editor, liam halligan. So this de banking saga is more widespread than perhaps we realise. But why . Realise. But why . You see why. What i mean, we know the nigel farage story and why he thinks he was debunked and whatever it is. But how can you go to 141,000 businesses and say we dont like you . It cant all be for political reasons. Just before we get to that, one of my favourite fast food shops can get shops named, you can get yourself a nice greasy after pub meal in kilkenny at abrakebabra. Oh very good, very good. So look, this is an important story. Many people listening to gb news watching gb news will either work for a small firm or will be running a small firm. Britains good at small firms. They drive our economy. They employ two thirds of us and they drive over half of our, what we call gdp. All the transactions in the economy every year. And we all remember what happened to our colleague nigel farage. And its happened to many people where banks have just taken away an account for a certain reason. Uh and this is happening to businesses , too. Theyre having businesses, too. Theyre having their Banking Services taken away banks will cite all away and banks will cite all financial risk and anti Money Laundering and all this stuff. But also banks talk about in their reasons for closing down accounts , risk appetite. And accounts, risk appetite. And that means that sort of financial speak for the bank just cant be bothered to provide these services because they cost too much to provide. Given the amount of money that they make from them. And that kind of rubs up against the idea that if youve got a banking license this country, its an license in this country, its an exorbitant you can exorbitant privilege. You can literally money. Then you literally create money. Then you provide households provide services for households and companies that and particularly companies that need them. And there are lot need them. And there are a lot of work goes on in of good work goes on in parliament. Select parliament. Among the select committees. These are groups of mps , cross party fighting mps, cross party not fighting each other, but investigating issues. And one of the most issues. And one of the most powerful is the treasury select committee, dealing with financial issues. And have financial issues. And they have unearthed incredible unearthed these incredible figures. As said, there are figures. As you said, there are around 5 million business accounts in the uk held by smes, small and medium sized enterprises, by the banks and in a single year, 150,000 of them, 3 have been closed and in many cases its against the will of the institutions, of the businesses. So imagine youre trying to make payroll. Imagine trying to make payroll. Imagine youve got invoices. Trying to make payroll. Imagine youve got invoices. Imagine youve got invoices. Imagine youve got invoices. Imagine youve got all your systems set up for a certain bank account. Would be taken . Its taken would you be taken . Its taken away from you. Would you be taken . Its taken awebutom you. Would you be taken . Its taken awebut then u. Would you be taken . Its taken awebut then could go but then could you go elsewhere . Maybe maybe no. Elsewhere . Maybe yes, maybe no. At the individual banks well, at the individual banks concerned the big four high concerned and the big four high street clearing they street clearing banks, they dominate theyll dominate the sme market. Theyll say that theyre being reasonable. We should we should make that that clear. But for many of the men and women running the Small Businesses, for us for those for many of us working for those Small Businesses, and ive said two thirds of us work for businesses with than 50, businesses with less than 50, sorry, with less than 100 employees, run by employees, often run by families. So what we call mom and pop businesses, if youre if youre sort of financial plumbing is ripped out of your business, this and your reputation and your reputation, suddenly, you know, youve got suppues suddenly, you know, youve got supplies that you pay via your bank account. Youre getting money in via your bank account. You know, the man is you know, the tax man is watching going on. Youre watching whats going on. Youre trying above trying to keep your head above water. And so it strikes me , water. And so it strikes me, just as nigel farage managed to highlight this issue here on gb news and there was proper change and proper engagement by ministers on this issue , i think ministers on this issue, i think if enough of a head of steam can be got up by the federation of Small Businesses, by Media Outlets like us, i think we need to really empower our Small Businesses to push back against the Financial Services industry. That doesnt always make them feel welcome. How can they do that . How can they do that . Well, by publicity, by by getting politicians to say to the bank, the banking sector, look, certain look, youve got certain obugafions look, youve got certain obligations , given that you have obligations, given that you have banking licenses. And also we banking licenses. And also we need to explore this question of how Small Businesses get their finance. So were not very good finance. So were not very good in this country at banks lending to Small Businesses. So they can expand. But banks now have to take into account if they carry out this action and they de banking somebody, theyre could well be a consequence. And that consequence will certainly have bad publicity associated with it. Well, at the moment the banks are acting within the law. Theres no question theyre theres no question that theyre not. Im not accusing them here of doing anything that is legally wrong any way legally wrong in any way whatsoever. I think theres whatsoever. But i think theres a moral here. If you have a moral issue here. If you have a moral issue here. If you have a banking license in this country, its big privilege. Country, its a big privilege. As said, there be as ive said, there should be certain universal service obugafions certain universal Service Obligations , not just to obligations, not just to individual households , but also individual households, but also to firms. To small firms. Well listen, that is you, well, listen, if that is you, if have been affected by if you have been affected by this, one of those this, if you are one of those Small Businesses liam wants to hear you, can get in hear from you, you can get in touch usual gb views gb news. But in the meantime, if youre debunked, youre finished. Im off for an abrakebabra. Okay you. Okay lucky you. Um, right. Lets get a check on the weather. Alex burkill has all the details. All the details. Morning. Im alex burkill, and heres your latest gb news. Weather update. It is going to weather update. It is going to turn increasingly wet from the west as we go through today. But for the time being, theres some significant fog around, particularly across parts of england and wales, cause england and wales, could cause some if some problems on the roads if youre out early, but in youre heading out early, but in the its a wet start to the the west its a wet start to the day. Rain across initially day. Heavy rain across initially northern into Northern Ireland pushing into parts scotland , england and parts of scotland, england and wales to heavy , wales likely to turn heavy, particularly over higher particularly over any Higher Ground, especially the ground, especially over the higher wales. All the Higher Ground of wales. All the time, across the time, though across the southeast of uk staying southeast of the uk staying largely dry , at least during largely dry, at least during Daylight Hours, for and of Daylight Hours, for and most of us mild picture. Many us its a mild picture. Many places into double places getting into double figures some strong figures but with some strong winds and in the rain its going to feel pretty unpleasant at times. That rain does reach times. That rain then does reach the southeast as we go through this further rain this evening with further rain pushing west as we pushing in from the west as we go the of the day, go through the end of the day, perhaps the second band of rain this evening overnight will this evening and overnight will be intense, so a be even more intense, so a greater chance of localised greater chance of some localised impacts. That, there will greater chance of some localised imjsome that, there will greater chance of some localised imjsome clearer that, there will greater chance of some localised imjsome clearer skiesthere will greater chance of some localised imjsome clearer skies following be some clearer skies following him northwest as we go him from the northwest as we go through the night, perhaps turning a bit chillier but turning a bit chillier here, but towards southeast. Another turning a bit chillier here, but towa|night southeast. Another turning a bit chillier here, but towa|night sou asast. Another turning a bit chillier here, but towa|night sou as we another turning a bit chillier here, but towa|night sou as we go |other turning a bit chillier here, but towa|night sou as we go through mild night here as we go through into thursday. A bit of a cloudy wet picture to start the day across many parts of central southeastern england. That rain eventually clearing away towards the southeast. A brighter story across of scotland and across parts of scotland and Northern Ireland, though some blustery showery weather Northern Ireland, though some blustery its howery weather Northern Ireland, though some blustery its wayery weather Northern Ireland, though some blustery its way in weather Northern Ireland, though some blustery its way in andther pushing its way in and temperatures taking a bit of a drop. So although it will be mild in the southeast, mild again in the southeast, elsewhere little bit elsewhere turning a little bit chillier and perhaps some wintry mess over the Higher Ground by by were about sex by well, were talking about sex and nudity next. Um , Joanna Lumleys raised um, Joanna Lumleys raised a whole debate. She thinks were whole debate. She thinks were too naked in this country. Weve got a naked picture of isabel and i, uh, coming up after the break. And also of Christopher Biggins as well. Not of liz brewer, but theyre going to be debating that to be or not debating that to be naked or not naked, that is the question after this Joanna Lumley is a lovely, lovely , lovely, lovely woman. Absolutely. It really is. And tremendous entertainer and actress. Entertainer and actress. But shes got a problem and that problem is nudity. And she said that sex scenes on tv and movies are getting a bit much. Movies are getting a bit much. And shes in one at the minute. Saltburn oh yes. Shes been in all sorts of big and apparently thats quite naughty, saucy as well. But anyway, so she said she would love, id love darling to ban them , which is a bit rich ban them, which is a bit rich because shes done a few herself as she, shes got her kit off and she has covered in mud or whatever else it might be, but with the rise of nudity the with the rise of nudity in the latest blockbuster is latest blockbuster hits, it is certainly well, a bit more certainly well, its a bit more common it used to be. Common than it used to be. Perhaps theres pressure on young actors and actresses to do it so is she being it as well. So is she being prudish . We prudish prudish . Are we prudish as a nafion . Prudish . Are we prudish as a nation . That our debate. This morning. Okay, so, um, begins , um, okay, so, um, begins, um, hes got his clothes, got his clothes on. I didnt recognise him there with clothes with his clothes on. Ive just been sent a picture of him without his clothes on, i have to say. And etiquette expert liz brewer, will always stay brewer, who will always stay covered we covered up, um. And thinks we need more need to get even more conservative. So lets get this over with. We have got a picture , um, of you in the nip. Um, so here we are. We have to issue a warning with this in case youre going to be easily seduced or offended by this. So heres offended by this. So heres begins in the nip. Offended by this. So heres begins in the nip. Yeah. Looking good. Begins covered in octopus. Begins covered in octopus. Octopus. I think thats a great photo. I mean, i really do and not know octopus was hurt dunng and not know octopus was hurt during the filming of this. So what was that about . Begins why . Why were you naked . It was a all to do with we all like fish , right . Like fish, right . And they ask people to do things with fish. And i was things with fish. And i was thrilled to do it. I think were far too prudish. Whats wrong . Were all. We all have the same bits. Uh, you know, we could. We bits. Uh, you know, we could. We nothing is out of order. I dont think to go nude nowadays. I mean, i think its great. Its really wonderful. Well, heres liz, liz will tell you why she doesnt think its great. Elizabeth warning beacons. Ive got. Warning beacons. Ive got. Good morning. Liz. Good morning. Liz. Ive still got the picture of you stark naked in the bath, covered in all those corks. I think we auctioned you all the picture. Do you remember . Picture. Do you remember . Yeah, i do remember. Yeah many years ago. Anyway. Okay. Well, with. Anyway. Okay. Well, with. Its your bits or anybody elses bits. I think Joanna Lumley actually has a, a very good point. It seems that, you know, one thing when were watching tv or film is the romance. The or film is the romance. The leading up , or film is the romance. The leading up, um, one program, a series at the moment. Leading up, um, one program, a series at the moment. One day, series at the moment. One day, you know, you go through the whole of that series wanting a certain thing to happen. You want the romance to come out. It titillates some of the greatest films and some of the greatest tv series have been those that have not had these sort of in depth sexual scenes. Theres in depth sexual scenes. Theres nothing wrong with sex, but but you know, if youre going to have to take it every time to so that people if youre sitting with children or youre sitting with children or youre sitting with relation or friends and you feel slightly awkward. But the difference is liz , but the difference is liz, now these streaming services , now these streaming services, the netflix, the amazon primes, the disney pluss make a difference because i dont think theyre subjected to exactly the same rules as terrestrial television, which means it can be, but begins. I remember certainly in the 70s, um , there certainly in the 70s, um, there was much more nudity on much more in all sorts of programmes. I mean, you couldnt turn on tv on a sunday evening, you know, past 9 00 where you saw some of these bum or boobs. And that was only the men i know. I mean, i did a series called poldark years ago. Years ago , poldark years ago. Years ago, and the first series of poldark and the first series of poldark and i played the sex crazed vicar , and i had to an affair vicar, and i had to an affair with my wifes sister , and i had with my wifes sister, and i had to make love to her feet. And there was a scene where, um, its past eight. Yeah, i know actually do that. I mean , you remember that i mean, you remember that scene, dont you . Oh, i do, yeah, i love it. I recorded it and i keep that. Recorded it and i keep that. Yeah. But i mean, dont tell. Yeah. But i mean, dont tell. Yeah. But i mean, dont tell. But what happened then, you know weve had so many changes. But you didnt have explicit sex scenes. Yes you did. No, you did i im telling you, you did a different place for that. I beg, i beg you to watch explicit sex. You can watch graphic porn now i can you work . Now i can you work . Can you watch that . Can you watch that . Well, everywhere. But all im well, everywhere. But all im saying is, i personally think. And it behind you and i spotted it behind you begins a beautiful female begins as a beautiful female nude painting you. And i nude painting behind you. And i think there is a danger because people associate with people associate nudity with perhaps sex or porn, that the body , the human body that, as body, the human body that, as you say , we all have, suddenly you say, we all have, suddenly comes with all these connotations. Personally, i think have the nudes. Lets not sexualise everything. Lets celebrate the human body. But maybe, you know what . And i disagree on that. Disagree on that. I agree with you. And i think i would have loved to have been painted by lucy and freud. I painted by lucy and freud. I mean, i can think of Nothing Better than sitting for that wonderful artist and having naked and having my, uh, you know , oil painting done by him. Know, oil painting done by him. I mean, its art and weve had that all through the centuries. People uh, you know, modelling in the nude for all these great artists. But liz , i definitely artists. But liz, i definitely think youre wrong. Uh, because ive worked on a number of, uh, telly programmes about television programmes. And about television programmes. And i can tell you in the 80s, we had a lot to deal with. Much more than today. I think we are much more prudish. The watershed plays a big factor in in all of that. And children werent exposed to it all the time. Nowadays elizabeth, let me just tell you. Let me tell you a story. When i was when i was young and i have four other brothers. Right. So theres five of us and my mother would come down to tuesday nights at 8 00, and she would see that hill was on would see that benny hill was on itv. Right . And my mother would itv. Right . And my mother would stand in front of the tv. Saucy. Saucy. Saucy. Hold while im telling you hold on while im telling you im telling you. My mother would stand in front the tv and say, do you front of the tv and say, do you want to see a naked woman . Is that want to see . That what you want to see . A naked woman . A naked woman . We all no, no, no, and we all went, no, no, no, no, no. And, uh, we basically either turned it on ran out. Turned it on and ran out. That was the deterrent. But that was the deterrent. That enough deterrent. That was a big enough deterrent. But was deemed to was but it was deemed to be it was much more regular and it was much more regular and it was much graphic. You could not much more graphic. You could not you get it. As you you would never get it. As you turn a saucy. Benny hill show turn a saucy. Benny hill show allowed to be on television. Well, do you remember eurotrash as well . To have all of that you used to have all of that with all the boobies everywhere. Hill was it benny hill was saucy. It wasnt black isnt sex. What youve got at the moment it youve got at the moment is it could going further and could keep going further and further. Extreme and with this, as you mentioned , the streaming as you mentioned, the streaming channels that have today and channels that we have today and children have access to and they are watching and were damaging these children. And i feel, you know, you dont have to have those sort of scenes in a, in a film to make it successful. Film to make it successful. Yeah. Romance and the build up is far more enticing and far more successful and has been proven. Look look through history with the films , the most history with the films, the most romantic films , and you get one romantic films, and you get one after the other , going right after the other, going right back to casablanca. But you back to casablanca. But you know, and as i said, one day. Yeah, well, the anticipation sometimes more exciting than the act begins. Act begins. Just lastly, i dont know if you saw the Pamela Anderson and tommy lee, uh, was it on disney documentary . Oh, it was wonderful. Oh, it was wonderful. Well, it was the first time ive ever seen male genitalia. Full frontal on normal television where i was speaking and had a voice and it was quite mind boggling. Um, so, you know, mind boggling. Um, so, you know, there is a different world out there is a different world out there in terms of what is on is on the tv. Are you okay with that . I thought it was one of the funniest sequences ive ever seen in my life. I mean, it was hysterical. It was a conversation with his bits. Oh, conversation with his bits. Oh, it was wonderful. I think that was really clever. Television and, you know, weve all got willies and weve all got fannies , you know . You know, why fannies, you know . You know, why should we see them . Right . Right . Right . Begins. I think i might leave it there on them. Even you covered up with all those corks. All those years, all those tentacles. All those tentacles. Id probably pay me more money. Id have shown everything for a lot more if you had it. Lets leave you with a naked picture of Joanna Lumley. Lets see. Um, joannas complaining about this , but she has done it. About this, but she has done it. And herself in the past. And um, and thats roughly, i dont know what the movie is, what the film is, but , um, what the movie is, what the film is, but, um, she now says no to that. She wishes i think she regrets doing some of those. Yeah, thats brian rix, isnt it, tony . Her breast s and one time we all went on the beaches and showed our breasts. Nowadays, we wouldnt dream of it. Mhm. Mhm. Okay, guys. Thank you both. A very revealing interview that very revealing interview that very revealing interview that very revealing thank you to Joanna Lumley for raising the whole question. Thank you very much indeed. Whole question. Thank you very much indeed. I whole question. Thank you very much indeed. I would draw the much indeed. I would draw the line at certain things , paul line at certain things, paul coyte being one of them. Uh, but here he is with the sport, uh, fully clothed or what are you doing next . Were scoring public is were scoring in public is positively encouraged. The game of football. Erling haaland , of football. Erling haaland, five goals. Uh, yesterday against luton. Also, were talking about this ice diving, which is really just the worst thing youve ever seen. Anyway, well do that. Okay. Well, well look forward to im Christopher Hope and im Gloria De Piero , bringing you Gloria De Piero, bringing you pmqs live here on gb news every wednesday well bring you live coverage of Prime Ministers questions. Thats pmqs live here on gb news. Britains election. Channel Valentina Khan suella, which in Northern Ireland is a great ice cream chain. Is it really. Is it really . Will it ever cate hollis. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well there is ice involved in this, ill tell you. Yeah okay. Right. So Valentina Cafolla and ice. How did they go . Shes from croatia , you know. Shes from croatia, you know. Valentina, right . Theres not a lot of well, theres not a lot of ice. Theres a lot of ice. But theres not a lot of ice. But this unbelievable. Have you. This is unbelievable. Have you. Have the a of the have you seen the a lot of the diving where they dive deep down hold breath. Hold their breath. Its terrifying. Absolutely terrifying. Absolutely terrifying. Cafolla. Terrifying. Valentina cafolla. She broke the world record. This she broke the world record. This is for ice diving. Now just have a look at this. There she is. Theres valentina. This is just horrendous ice. I mean, just going near the water now. Straight shes diving on. Straight down. Shes diving on. One breath, 140m. So this is in the italian alps, by the way. 140m down. The water temperature is just three degrees. She holds a breath dress dressed like a mermaid. I mean, look at that. I mean, look at that. But the fear i mean, its under the ice. But see, she cant find the hole to get back up again. Well, this is this is the worry and this is whats happened. If you ever see the netflix documentary, which is called the called the deepest breath, the first ten minutes made me nightmares. Absolutely terrifying. There terrifying. And you know, there are deep there are divers are deep sea, there are divers that done this have that have done this that have died. Theres a few that died. Theres quite a few that have come to nasty end have come to a very nasty end where cant get back where they cant get get back up, lose breath, they up, they lose their breath, they lose yes. So lose consciousness. Yes. So anyway, shes doing is anyway, what shes doing is actually underneath actually going right underneath the instead going the ice. So instead of going straight down, which a lot of them shes going them doing, shes going along. So 140m. But i mean what so for 140m. But i mean what happens if cant reach the happens if you cant reach the end. Just craziness. Just end. Its just craziness. Just madness. But um, there you go. Madness. But um, there you go. Thats the new world record 140. Shes happy herself, shes very happy with herself, but is and the heart fitness to be able to endure not only the cold, but to hold your breath like that. Slow it down. Like that. They slow it down. They slow down. Need to be like a mermaid the need to be like a mermaid inside a boat. Now that is, theres one fin. Theres some where you have two obviously that two fins, but obviously that makes you go faster. So with the one fin so you have your foot in that and then that makes you move the water quicker. Move through the water quicker. Ooh its absolutely cold ooh i know its absolutely cold underwater holding your breath. Its everything. Just a nightmare would its everything. Like ust a nightmare would its everything. Like to a nightmare would its everything. Like to do. 1ightmare would not like to do. No, its not something id like. From cold to hot, hot, hot hot five times. Erling haaland scored against luton last scored five against luton last night in the fa cup and man city now through quarter finals. Luton town two, Manchester City six. Youre right Erling Haaland of haaland is breaking loads of records. Couple of months records. Last couple of months hed injured and some would hed been injured and some would say are the magic is gone. Hes not that after all, but its rubbish. I mean hes hes scored. Um hed scored one goal in 350 minutes. Now hes the first player to score five lviv in the fa cup since 1970. Georgie. Georgie. Georgie. Correct. Correct. They call him the belfast boy and they say georgie, georgie , and they say georgie, georgie, keep your feet on the ground. Georgie georgie, would you listen to the sound . Georgie georgie, put a lad on your knee. He play the game. He play the game. Thats the 179 goals in 83 games for erling. Erling erling. There may be a song, um, sitting. Now start ramping it up. This is the time of the year where all of a sudden, everything comes together. Then they comes together. And then they start winning. Everything okay. And preview okay. And just preview tonights run tonights fa cup games. Just run through . Chelsea. Through whos playing . Chelsea. Amazing. Ten years ago since amazing. Ten years ago since that one. Yeah. 1970 final replay. Wolves are 1970 final replay. Wolves are playing brighton forest Manchester United are you feeling which is 1990 semi final replay and um fergie had have lost that game. Yeah. Uh he would he wouldnt yeah. Uh he would he wouldnt have gone on to manage man united after would have known what happened you and mark what happened to you and mark robins scored the winning goal. Coventry. Yep. At coventry. Yep. At coventry. Hes with coventry last hes one with coventry last night. On liverpool night. Youre on fire liverpool versus southampton is the other game tonight okay. The fifth round. Thats the fifth round. Thats the fifth round. Thank you. My friend. Have yourself a good day. Bless you god bless. Us. Still to come stay with us. Still to come oscar redrup mccgwire oscar redrup Scarlett Mccgwire will be looking will be back. Theyll be looking through top stories the through the top stories of the day news. Youre day in making the news. Youre watching breakfast on news watching breakfast on gb news with isabel and weve got , um, oscar redrup. And weve got, um, oscar redrup. Weve got Scarlett Mccgwire and theyve got big stories to talk about, oscar, one of which is the budget next week , and it is the budget next week, and it doesnt look for good the defence budget. No, i mean , daily mail front no, i mean, daily mail front page today as we all know, there is not a lot of money knocking around all Government Departments at this time of year completely battle for their steak for what they think they need, their priorities. They want to get through and, uh, defence is no different. The defence is no different. The slight anger that i think its caused, or maybe anger is unfair , but the fear that is generated is that we are in a very uncertain world at the moment. Uncertain world at the moment. Um, every single week you feel like there is developing tensions and concerns from all kinds of different threats around the world. And the fact that it does not look like defence is going to get mod is going to get extra spending , defence is going to get mod is going to get extra spending, um, given to them in the next weeks budget. I think, quite rightly, he is making people sit up and ask a few questions on that issue. I ask a few questions on that issue. I never, i mean , in my issue. I never, i mean, in my lifetime at least , the world has lifetime at least, the world has not felt this uncertain before and i mean, i dont know what you think, scarlett. No, no, i was i was wondering if the reason rishi sunak had put grant shapps in is that hes not going to make an enormous fuss, whereas ben wallace, hell still a fuss. Fuss, whereas ben wallace, hell stil but a fuss. Fuss, whereas ben wallace, hell stil but from fuss. Fuss, whereas ben wallace, hell stil but from the. Fuss, whereas ben wallace, hell stilbut from the sidelines, fuss, whereas ben wallace, hell stil but from the sidelines, from but from the sidelines, from the sidelines . But from the sidelines, from the absolutely. Whereas ben absolutely. Whereas ben wallace the fuss and said , wallace led the fuss and said, we really need. And because because , because youre right. Because, because youre right. But actually , you know, but i mean, actually, you know, that i mean, defence is incredibly important. But i mean, you know , theres months mean, you know, theres months and months backlog on the courts. There are people who are in jail all waiting for their case to come up. They might be found innocent having spent 18 months. Well, youve got doctors on strike, you know, for weeks and weeks weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks. Schools with weeks. Youve got schools with roofs falling down, um, and youve got taxes at 70 year high. So how youve also got ukraine, youve got ukraine, which, which i which, uh, which, which i imagine that jeremy hunt is saying, look, we are spending more anyway, were giving all this stuff to ukraine. Its not going to our own defence forces, but it will end up there, whatever that that amount is. And we go the amount is. And we go to the guardian. This is a scarlet a film maker, an israeli film maker at the berlin Film Festival. What happened . Well , so he got festival. What happened . Well, so he got an festival. What happened . Well , so he got an award festival. What happened . Well, so he got an award and the he was making a documentary about palace villages in the west bank. Palestinian villages being, uh, basically annihilated by the Israeli Defence force and then he was called anti semitic, right. Because because germany is, is not like us and tries to be neutral about gaza. Its absolutely pro israeli. And he says, what he said after hes frightened now to go back to israel and hes staying in germany. And he he said, you know, as the son of Holocaust Survivors , it is a bit rich survivors, it is a bit rich calling me anti semitic. Um, and calling me anti semitic. Um, and i think i think that what it what it talks about is actually we have to see things in the round instead of sort of picking on that , that if youre critical on that, that if youre critical of anything israel does, it means that youre anti semitic, because he clearly , you know, because he clearly, you know, just felt very, very strongly. Just felt very, very strongly. And ive never seen the film, but i mean, for it to win a prize at, at a Film Festival in germany meant that it was incredibly well made. Yeah. In germany, where the yeah. In germany, where the holocaust took place , the son of holocaust took place, the son of holocaust took place, the son of Holocaust Survivors, i mean , Holocaust Survivors, i mean, theres lots of sort of fascinating threads to that. Fascinating threads to that. Um, russia has developed an Artificial Intelligence tool , Artificial Intelligence tool, oscar, thats using to meddle in elections , uh, not only in elections, uh, not only in britain, but also the usa, for instance. And theyre doing this instance. And theyre doing this , uh, in a larger scale than theyve ever done before. Well, just to i mean, literally what we were saying about five minutes ago in terms of the uncertain world and threats from all different shapes and sizes from different parts the world, this yet parts of the world, this is yet another example it. Um, its another example of it. Um, its really i think there will be, you know, our Intelligence Services are some of the best in the world, and its something that we should be very proud of in this country. And i imagine this is something that they have absolute focus on. Um, it we go back to 2016, uh, the American Election then, and all the noise with this type of stuff around at that point. Obviously this is going to be one of the biggest election years again in my lifetime, for sure 2024 and this kind of stuff will be making people feel very can we trust the results . Nervous now this ties in oscar with a story about general ryan z ushering in post truth media. Age says former number 10 communication chief. And what this means is that, um, people in the age group, 18 to 24, theyre not interested in traditional and official news outlets , so they trust its outlets, so they trust its content less and they are now more likely twice as likely to get their news from tiktok, for instance, than the bbc. This is an interesting one for you to discuss. Discuss. Yeah, really. I mean, fascinating because and you know, i remember the really, really interesting study. So ill say that first of all. But ill say that first of all. But i remember, you know, at number 10, when you have those conversations about communications how you get communications and how you get cut and who youre cut through and who youre talking to and what the right messages um, it its messages should be, um, it its changing year on year in terms of the platform and then the type of message and the type of clip that should be delivered on that platform. You know, i think , you know, it probably was gradually changing. Maybe once every four years in terms of facebook coming along, then twitter. But its completely twitter. But its completely rapid now. And i think, you know , when politics catches up and goes, right, we need to speak to voters on tiktok. By the time they understand how to use it properly, therell be Something Else. Yeah, but itll be something entirely. Ive spoken grant shapps ive spoken to grant shapps about secretary of state about why the secretary of state for videos for defence is putting videos out a chinese owned. Yeah, out onto a chinese owned. Yeah, yeah platform, and the security concerns. But he says thats how we reach the young. And thats an important part of it. And he obviously says he only does that through personal devices rather than government ones. Than government owned ones. But you a worry. You know, it is a worry. But also why is it a worry. But also why is it a worry. Because sorry, just just to ask your opinion this. That ask your opinion on this. That is government is an official government outlet. Simply using a different platform. Um, and news platform. Um, and major News Organisation like cnn, like fox news, like the bbc, for instance. And they all use tiktok. So is it just not just a different way of getting the same message across . Well, it is, but the worry is, is that is that people end up in an echo chamber. So its not that they, they get news. And i mean, i mean, my, my daughter, when she was living with me during covid, would walk out of the room when the news came on. Oh its just too depressing. Not going to depressing. Im not going to deal with that increasingly. Depressing. Im not going to deaand h that increasingly. Depressing. Im not going to deaand h probablyeasingly. Depressing. Im not going to deaand h probably feeds ly. Depressing. Im not going to deaand h probably feeds into depressing. Im not going to deaand h probably feeds into the and i probably feeds into the sort appearing sort of hatred thats appearing in more. In politics a lot more. And, and, and so, so, i mean, i was really shocked. So a friend of mine my age lives in canada, i get no canada, said i get no newspapers, news, all my news newspapers, no news, all my news is on facebook. And you just think, but how can you ever have . The other point of view . How you . You know, you do how can you . You know, you do need think things through need to think things through properly thats the problem properly and thats the problem and let alone what you were talking about, oscar, you know, the whole ai generated stuff. I the whole ai generated stuff. I mean, where are the russians going to put it out . Theyre going to put it out . Theyre going to put it out on tiktok and facebook and everything like that. And it has begun that youve youve got stuff youve got youve got fake stuff coming i mean, you coming in and its i mean, you know, we do fake election. I mean, thats what some people in this space are a kind of identifying 20, 24 hours. It will be the deep fake election yeah will be the deep fake election year. Um, which is obviously obviously hugely concerning. But obviously hugely concerning. But the really interesting thing about the study is that there is an awareness that they dont trust what theyre consuming, but theyd rather consume it on those anyway, those platforms anyway, which you know, i remember in the old days, you used to ask people, you know, did they read the sun and dont you know, did they read the sun and dont believe and they i dont believe anything in sun. Anything in the sun. And it was the best and yet it was the best selling newspaper. Now my sister tells lot of people who are tells me a lot of people who are illiterate, literally illiterate, literally illiterate, would buy so that illiterate, would buy it so that they to show that they they have it to show that they can mean , actually, can read. But i mean, actually, you you dont trust you know, if you dont trust a newspaper, why are you buying it . But also its not just a question of trust. Um, scarlett , question of trust. Um, scarlett, to me, its a question of how how interesting is it or or i use this terme infotum moment. If more organisations put out infotainment in other ways , made infotainment in other ways, made their news such subjects watchable and compulsive to watchable and compulsive to watch instead of what we get, get very dry and the bbc have this habit and i just honestly, ilaugh this habit and i just honestly, i laugh at it. So its lets cross to Isabel Webster at westminster. Isabel whats the latest . And isabel tells us what the latest is and then they go, isabel, thank you very much indeed. Isabel, thank you very much indeed. That was Isabel Webster indeed. That was Isabel Webster from from westminster, our Home Affairs Correspondent , isabel affairs correspondent, Isabel Webster. Yeah, i get it. And webster. Yeah, i get it. And i dont want to know who she is. I get it over and over and over again, and its just they put this importance out of identifying people all the time. Really good point. Well. Well. And make them and make them report from outside somewhere where anything i correspondent i can tell you that was the bane my life. That was the bane of my life. Theres nothings changed since i live here hour ago. I was live here an hour ago. Do i was live here an hour ago. Do i have to here for i really have to stay here for the next 12 hours . Yes you do, but a very interesting thing of what you do is that you to provide infotainment, serve provide infotainment, you serve up news provide opinions up news and you provide opinions on which i think is on balance, which i think is this is highest rated this is the highest rated section our 3. 5 hours that we section of our 3. 5 hours that we do in a morning. So that to me proves the point. There are ways of doing it and ways of doing it. So somebody better work out more how to be more entertaining than than a lot of news it does. Than what a lot of news it does. It does help to have a completely mad anchor. Do we . Completely mad anchor. Do we . And guests as well. Scarlett. And guests as well. Scarlett. Oscar, we appreciate you even if you are a bit cheeky sometimes. You are a bit cheeky sometimes. Heres a update on the weather with alex burkill. Looks like with alex burkill. It is going to turn increasingly wet from the west as we go through today, but for the time being, theres some significant around, significant fog around, particularly of particularly across parts of England Wales , could cause england and wales, could cause some the roads. If some problems on the roads. If youre but in youre heading out early. But in the its a wet start to the the west its a wet start to the day. Heavy rain initially day. Heavy rain across initially Northern Ireland pushing into parts of scotland, england and wales likely to turn heavy, particularly over higher particularly over any Higher Ground, the ground, especially over the Higher Ground of wales all the time, across the time, though across the southeast uk staying southeast of the uk staying largely during largely dry at least during Daylight Hours. Most of Daylight Hours. And for most of us a mild picture. Many us its a mild picture. Many places into double places getting into double figures with some strong figures but with some strong winds and in the rain its going to feel unpleasant at to feel pretty unpleasant at times. Then does reach to feel pretty unpleasant at timysoutheast then does reach to feel pretty unpleasant at timysoutheast asthen does reach to feel pretty unpleasant at timysoutheast as wel does reach to feel pretty unpleasant at timysoutheast as we go yes reach to feel pretty unpleasant at timysoutheast as we go through the southeast as we go through this with further rain this evening, with further rain pushing in from the west as we go the end the go through the end of the day. Perhaps the second of rain perhaps the second band of rain this evening and overnight will be intense. A be even more intense. So a greater chance of some localised impacts to that, there will impacts due to that, there will be clearer skies following be some clearer skies following in northwest as we go in from the northwest as we go through the night, perhaps turning chillier here, but turning a bit chillier here, but towards southeast. Another towards the southeast. Another mild as we go through mild night here as we go through into thursday. A bit of a cloudy wet picture to start the day across many parts of central southeastern england. That rain eventually away towards eventually clearing away towards the. A brighter story the southeast. A brighter story across of scotland and across parts of scotland and Northern Ireland, some Northern Ireland, though some blustery weather blustery, showery weather pushing way in and pushing its way in and temperatures taking a bit of a drop. Although it will be drop. So although it will be mild again in southeast, mild again in the southeast, elsewhere turning a little bit chillier and perhaps wintry chillier and perhaps some wintry ness over the Higher Ground by a brighter outlook with boxt solar sponsor of weather on gb news. The holiday in plot following a secret meeting between lee anderson and richard tice , could anderson and richard tice, could anderson and richard tice, could anderson be about to jump ship to reform . To reform . Yes. He came from labour, the conservative gave him a home. He was deputy chair until just a few weeks ago. But could lee anderson now be planning to move to reform . Ill bring you the details shortly. That is the question. Amid a rise in security threats to mps , new funds are threats to mps, new funds are being made available today to step up security. Step up security. Its vital for democracy that elected representatives, members of parliament and others can discharge their duties without fear or intimidation. If mps cant do their jobs and use their judgement without any sort of external intimidation , then democracy intimidation, then democracy itself cant function. Itself cant function. Watch out for some thick fog. This morning before rain pushes in from the west, and thats likely to be heavy at times. Ill have all the details in the full forecast. So our top story this hour. Gb news understands that the suspended tory mp lee anderson, has held private talks with the leader of the reform party , leader of the reform party, richard tice, over the weekend , richard tice, over the weekend, fuelling mounting speculation that the former conservative party deputy chair will be defecting to the party. Well, your views on this coming in thick and fast this morning, donald says. Mr morning, donald says. Mr anderson was absolutely right in what he said and the Political Class country are and class in this country are and have bunch cowards for have been a bunch of cowards for years , allowing this situation years, allowing this situation to. Marilyn says lee to happen. Marilyn says lee anderson speaks from the workshop floor, where the raw reality of what is happening to our country is playing out in the streets every day and land. The streets every day and land. Good morning lan, what a tragedy that one of the few honest men we politics cant find we have in politics cant find a party where he can feel at home. Lets to Katherine Forster. Lets go to Katherine Forster. She you more. She will tell you more. Catherine. Morning. Catherine. Good morning. Yes. Good catherine. Good morning. Yes. Good morning. Its now six days since those comments that lee anderson made about the mayor of london and islamist. And this row is still rumbling on, and the potential , uh, on, and the potential, uh, consequences of booting lee anderson out of the conservative party as they did a day later and are really very serious indeed, because we learned last night that richard tice , the night that richard tice, the leader of the reform party, who was at doncaster for their spnng was at doncaster for their spring conference on saturday on sunday met lee anderson at a houdayinn sunday met lee anderson at a holiday inn just off the m1 near Lee Andersons constituency. Now, of course , we dont know now, of course, we dont know what they talked about, but but if lee anderson was to agree to go over to reform, it is clear that they would welcome him with open arms because he speaks, as many of our viewers at gb news have been saying, as as many people feel. And thats why the people feel. And thats why the conservative party promoted him to the deputy chair , a position to the deputy chair, a position he held until just a few weeks ago because he tells it how it is, many people will say therell be people horrified by his remarks on friday, hes admitted that they were clumsy. He said hes not racist. He says absolutely. Most muslims are law abiding good people. Hes talking about a tiny, tiny fringe. But the fact that he fringe. But the fact that he tied the london mayor to this, um, is very problem. Matic um, is very problem. Matic indeed. Now number 10, have clearly sent out a message to government ministers not to label lee anderson as islamophobic or racist, or the comments that he made as such, simply saying they were wrong. They were unacceptable because the conservative party wish this hadnt the conservative party wish this hadnt happened. They would like there to be a way back for him into the party. Hes very valuable to them. But lee anderson, for his part, has doubled down. Hes given more interviews. He said. Hes absolutely not going to apologise , guys. So lets see apologise, guys. So lets see what happens. But, you know, he what happens. But, you know, he came from labour. He was a labour councillor for years. He labour councillor for years. He worked for Gloria De Piero, the former labour mp in ashfield. He went to the conservatives itll be an extraordinary political journey if he ends up going to reform. Indeed, the full rainbow. Um, indeed, the full rainbow. Um, actually john picked up on that as if he jumped ship to reform. Hell have transcended the whole of the political spectrum. Um, at people with their at lots of people with their views that. Katherine views on all of that. Katherine forster, thank you very much. Fish and chips. Fish and chips. Labour say its latest Analysis Shows the hike of council tax could wipe out savings being made to our National Insurance. Made to our National Insurance. Lets get the thoughts of the shadow financial secretary james murray. Good morning to you. Thats thought, thats a depressing thought, isnt here we are thinking isnt it . Here we are thinking that be getting that we might be getting a little bit of a tax in the little bit of a tax cut in the next little while, and these hugely expensive, um, council taxes are just going to clear that out. And we wont feel it in our pocket. In our pocket. Well, exactly as he said. You well, exactly as he said. You know, this is an example of rishi sunak back breaking his promise when he says hes cutting taxes because any tax cutting taxes because any tax cut people might get from National Insurance changes this year are going to be wiped out by increases in council tax hikes. You know, the truth is that the tax burden is still on course to be as high as in 70 years. Therell be 25 tax rises in this parliament alone, and people britain are worse off. Properly, i dont know if theres anything their cameraman, their can do to, to either raise your microphone or we may have to, to give up. But have you eaten it at aslef . It said your stomach really have a fiddle with your mic. Well talk about fish and chips and well come straight back to you. Have someone fiddle away on that. Chip shop that. James. Uh, chip shop names says i live in names martin. Says i live in a norfolk village that has a travelling fish and chip van once a week and scold. Its once a week and a scold. Its called eds place. Place being p l a i c e as in called eds place. Place being p laiceasinfishbobin sheffield. My favourite fish shop is funky fish on beverley road in hull. Excellent quality for a reasonable price. We had a plate reasonable price. We had a plate of chips at 6 00 this morning. Fish and chips. I should say small portion and we would playing guess the price. And you estimated between what, nine and £11. Yeah it was £13. I mean london is expensive. Chris got in touch. I was shocked to hear youre paying £13 for a bag of cod and chips in the uk, while retailers are complaining of narrow margins. Narrow Profit Margins. Interesting my local english restaurant here in Southern Spain offers a delicious plate of icelandic cod chips and mushy or garden peas with a slice of lemon for the princely sum of ,7. 95, which is less than £7. Lemon for the princely sum of ,7. 95, wiit h is less than £7. Lemon for the princely sum of ,7. 95, wi it also less than £7. Lemon for the princely sum of ,7. 95, wi it also depends £7. Lemon for the princely sum of ,7. 95, wi it also depends on i suppose. It also depends on portion sizes, as well. Uh, liz in carlisle says in longton, near carlisle, weve got a fish shop called the codfather, which is a good thats very popular. That one, isnt it . That one, isnt it . It is popular. So i was, i was talking we have one in belfast called for cod and ulster. Um because there is a political phrase in Northern Ireland for god and ulster. So thats for cod and ulster. Then how are we doing with james murrays microphone . Ah whats back . Thats a shame. Thanks for telling us what we do in away for here hours. Waffling on fish and chips. Sorry about that james. Forgive us. Were now back with you. We believe your microphone is well , i know the is working well, i know the opposite, the opposite. But Andrew Pierce is here. Um, luckily , with my microphone um, luckily, with my microphone working, it is. Working, it is. I can hardly see it. I can hardly see it. Im glad im not. Be working from half nine and youll be on. Thats good. Well, my friend, what have you got . Well were going talking about the is going to be talking about the is the home secretary, right. Wretched marches a these wretched marches on a saturday in london and our major cities throughout palestine havent reached sell havent they reached their sell by date . Frankly, their huge, expensive to police. Theyre diverting Police Resources from everyday policing. Theres no chance theyre going to end. No, of course not. Now that they know theyre an inconvenience police. They know theyre an inconve|the ce police. They know theyre an inconve|the police. Police. They know theyre an inconve|the police. Polithe and the police. Yeah, the strategy im not sure was i mean, you can see why i said it, but course, i just thought, but of course, i just thought, well, means theyre going well, that means theyre going to every now to be there every week now of every month. They have every month. I mean, they have made point, havent they . Made their point, havent they . Well jewish people feel they well and jewish people feel they cant go into major centres like london, sad. Yeah. London, which is very sad. Yeah. Just had that policing and we just had that policing report out yesterday saying that, right to that, you know, the right to protest is a vital part our protest is a vital part of our democracy and have to tread democracy and we have to tread carefully issue. Carefully around this issue. Have the right . Have we got the balance right . The secretary clearly the home secretary clearly doesnt think so. And then at the same issue is, the idea £30 million is, is the idea that £30 million is, is the idea that £30 million is to be put aside now for is going to be put aside now for security mps . Massively security for mps . Yes. Massively ramping their ramping up security in their constituency surgeries. Thats something. Remember david amess was his was murdered tory mp in his constituency surgery. Cox was constituency surgery. Jo cox was murdered the street. Yeah. Murdered in the street. Yeah. Has impact on the and it has an impact on the sort people that step sort of people that will step forward and join politics. And in an era where there is so much hatred we need good hatred in politics, we need good people, put people, public servants, to put themselves up above the gauntlet, but not in harms way. Well, i came out to work this morning at 4 am. And within no time a car sped up behind me, blue lights flashing , playing blue lights flashing, playing said plain clothes or whatever it was. Unmarked police , it was. Unmarked police, unmarked. Unmarked police car. So two officers behind out, um, and i welcomed them. I welcomed them there because i drive a very expensive car. Right. And so they wanted to know where a drug dealer wanted by the likes of biba was driving time in the morning that time in the morning. That is the second time, um, that thats happened to got criticised for to me. And i got criticised for this before, but i am totally in favour very happy, he favour and feel very happy, he says. Favour and feel very happy, he says. These, are says. These, these cars are stolen at such a rate in this area. Weve got to check everyone that they thought you were dealer. Were a drug dealer. Thought you were were a drug dealer. Drug. Thought you were were a drug dealer. Drug. You thought you were were a drug dealer. Drug. You dontiought you were were a drug dealer. Drug. You dont lookt you were were a drug dealer. Drug. You dont look like] were a drug. You dont look like a drug dealer. But what is a drug dealer look like . Well, you know, in fairness, within seconds they recognised me. Ah, well that helps. Ah, well that helps. They. Could tell they were they. I could tell they were sort trying to backtrack. So. Sort of trying to backtrack. So. And to them, look, its and i said to them, look, its fine, okay. And they fine, its all okay. And they said, its okay you said, george, its okay off you go. Ah, George Clooney thought it was clooney. Was George Clooney. Who does complain and well, who does complain and say doesnt . Well, who does complain and say does . t . Where was who does . Humbly where was her was in the boot. Her mouth . She was in the boot. Theres story. Yes, exactly theres a story. Yes, exactly. What a shame,. Oh, gosh, what a shame, because wanted to some of because i wanted to put some of the from from your paper. The stuff from from your paper. Andrew for labour andrew for to the labour minister there and we had issues with but labour with that. But labour party calling and fact its harriet calling and in fact its Harriet Harman talking about mps working from home. Knew youd have something i knew youd have something to should they work to say. No. Why should they work from that from home . How does that pressure, does make pressure, how does that make them secure anyway . Them any more secure anyway . Because what happens, because we saw what happens, i think feel more secure think i think i feel more secure in the house of commons than it was working from home with what was working from home with what was ellwood had was the Mp Tobias Ellwood had a mob outside his home. So yeah , mob outside his home. So yeah, work in houses of Parliament Work in the houses of parliament where police, is where there are police, there is security , Armed Security security, Armed Security everywhere. Im afraid harriets everywhere. Im afraid harriets got that one completely wrong. Not for the first time. I need to say that. I need to say that. Well, i learned one of the Police Officers that attacked himself the morning. Himself to me in the morning. Yeah, yeah, were yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, were always be talking about always going to be talking about the because, you know, why the rows because, you know, why was not at that . Was william not at that . Are we ever to well, are we ever going to know were to talk about this. Um, right after you, after the come back. Well the break. Come back. Well start that. Thanks. My friend. Thank indeed. We thank you very much indeed. We will after the break will be back after the break talking issues whats talking royal issues and whats going this 2024. Going on after this 2024. Battle ground year, the a Battle Ground year, the year the decides as the year the nation decides as the parties up their campaigns parties gear up their campaigns for next general election, for the next general election, who will be left standing when the people make one of the british people make one of the british people make one of the biggest decisions of their lives . Who will rise and who will fall . Lets find out together. Lets find out together. For every moment, the highs , for every moment, the highs, the lows, the twists and turns. The lows, the twists and turns. Well be with you for every step of this journey. In 2024. Gb news is britains election. Channel st marys, a labour mp , st marys, a labour mp, shadow financial secretary who had a broken mic and we had to break off from him. We can, we now have that mic fixed. You do. Good morning again to you. You wanted to talk about how council tax hikes are going to wipe out savings from wipe out any savings from, from National Insurance the National Insurance that the conservatives in, conservatives are bringing in, but to you and you just but i put it to you and you just have look at birmingham. Im have to look at birmingham. Im a run council. Were a labour run council. Were expecting to see the precedent being to being broken of a 5 increase to 10 places like that. Thats 10 in places like that. Thats nothing do the nothing to do with the governments fault. Thats a labour problem, isnt it . Wiping out that people out the savings that people could be feeling . Could potentially be feeling . Well, the truth is, the government are effectively forcing councils to put up council tax. And what that council tax. And what that increase in council tax means is that any savings families might make from National Insurance cuts this year are being wiped out. So when rishi sunak says that cutting taxes, its that hes cutting taxes, its another promise because another broken promise because taxes are still on course to be the highest in 70 years. 25 tax rises this parliament alone, rises in this parliament alone, you know, and the low Economic Growth combined with those tax rises across rises is why people across britain feeling worse off britain are feeling worse off to make it different under a Labour Administration , because we know administration, because we know why were seeing these huge rises in in council taxes. Theyve had huge inflationary pressures. We know they have to pressures. We know they have to foot the bill for social care. Weve got an population. Weve got an ageing population. How different under how will that be different under you . You guys . Yeah. The big difference under a Labour Government comes down to the question of Economic Growth, over the last 14 growth, because over the last 14 years weve had economic failure from the conservatives. Weve had growth and taxes, had low growth and high taxes, pubuc had low growth and high taxes, Public Services are now on their knees the way to get out of this doom loop that were in the doom loop that were in at the moment is get the economy moment is to get the economy growing, and thats why we put our get the economy our plan to get the economy growing, our plan jobs growing, our plan for jobs across the country. Right at the heart everything heart of everything we say. We were doing government. If we were doing in government. If we won next general election, won the next general election, jims it there. Jims got to leave it there. I hope you can appreciate our time trouble. Were right up against clock, for against the clock, but sorry for keeping you waiting and speak again you very much again soon. Thank you very much indeed. Thank again soon. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you. Well straight to cameron well go straight to Cameron Walker the walker for the latest on the royal family. Important point royal family. An important point that you want to make this morning, that whilst that you want to make this morr said that whilst that you want to make this morr said princesshat whilst they said that princess catherine continuing in her catherine is continuing in her recovery, didnt recovery, they didnt categorically that categorically rule out that Prince William missing Prince William going missing from service from that thanksgiving service yesterday wasnt related to her. Yeah we got 45 minutes notice before the start of this service i Prince Williams name was in the order of service. He was due to give a reading, which all of us this must be us thought, well, this must be a pretty significant reason if the prince heir to the prince of wales, heir to the throne, pulled out last throne, has pulled out last minute Kensington Palace insists the princess of wales continues to they didnt to be doing well. They didnt categorically prince categorically say that Prince Williams was do williams absence was not to do with the princess of wales, but they are not going to go into any further details. And the problem not going into any problem is by not going into any further everybody is further details, everybody is speculating earth it speculating as what on earth it could considering the prince could be, considering the prince and princess michael of kent were at this, um, service yesterday and they had lost, very sadly, their son in law two days previously. Thomas kingston , which Buckingham Palace announced sudden last night announced in a sudden last night in sudden so if those in a sudden death. So if those two could turn up at this service, why couldnt Prince William and that is the big question this morning. Well, the big question is, look, anything say say had an upset tummy, you know, or was nauseous up or whatever nauseous throwing up or whatever it been better it is he would have been better off indicating that or you guys being privately that being briefed privately that thats however the thats what it was. However the Kensington Palace have said catherine continues to recover. I dont know how positive they were about that. They were very positive and they said the princess continues to be doing well, so theyre clearly trying to give us a message of reassurance to do with the princess of wales. But as you say, eamonn, if it was simply that Prince William had lost his voice because hes got a really bad cold and therefore couldnt for couldnt do the reading, for example, i think there would be less questions if they just less questions if they had just come out and said it. The fact that they havent means that we are i would are all speculating, but i would also Prince William and also say Prince William and catherine really, really catherine both really, really valued their privacy and is it really our right to know whats going on . Perhaps not, but in the background wider context the background and wider context of royal Health Scares of all the royal Health Scares weve over the last weve had over the last two months . Think there months . I think inevitably there is more questions as to why Prince William pulled out quite so ithink Prince William pulled out quite so i think once people think i think once people think about realise theyre about it, they realise theyre entitled their privacy. And about it, they realise theyre en course, their privacy. And about it, they realise theyre en course, we eir privacy. And about it, they realise theyre en course, we all3rivacy. And about it, they realise theyre en course, we all wish y. And about it, they realise theyre en course, we all wish them about it, they realise theyre en course, we all wish them the of course, we all wish them the very especially princess very best, especially princess of if there are problems of wales. If there are problems with her. But where you dont have the king you dont have have the king and you dont have the heir to the throne, suddenly you andrew leading you have Prince Andrew leading the the thanksgiving the march into the thanksgiving service making the Front Service and making the front pages of the papers. On a day when the royal is already when the royal family is already feeling perhaps vulnerable feeling weak, perhaps vulnerable and is this what they want and frail is this what they want to see . Was this correctly choreographed by Buckingham Palace . Mean, not leading palace . I mean, not just leading the march. Was also front row of the he was also front row of the service at five seats away from her majesty the queen, so he was very much front and in very much front and centre in the spotlight i understand the spotlight. I understand that it the greek royal it was actually the greek royal family prince family that invited Prince Andrew, rather than the British Royal family Prince Andrew is also a of the also still a member of the private windsor family, and this was private thanksgiving was a private thanksgiving service for King Constantine of greece. So so, so because it wasnt an official event as a non working member of the royal family, Prince Andrew was entitled to attend. And clearly he is going to take any opportunity because we know Prince Andrews to Prince Andrews character to attend an event such as this. And clearly the Royal Household would have known there was lots of there. In fact, there of cameras there. In fact, there was fixed points kind of was lots of fixed points kind of set for the journalists to be set up for the journalists to be to there see which to be there and see which members family were members of the royal family were going be there, but perhaps going to be there, but perhaps their hands were tied because it was a private service. Was a private family service. But happened if but would it have happened if the king and Prince William were there . Suspect probably there . I suspect it probably would honest, would have to be honest, because he member the he is still a member of the private family, even if it was uncomfortable for them. Mhm. Its interesting has its not interesting stuff has got kickback in the got a lot of kickback in the papers today. Uh, depends how cynical uh, it depends how cynical you want to about it or not you want to be about it or not i suppose. Um, thank you very much indeed, cameron. Thank but indeed, cameron. Thank you. But certainly day. Whats certainly a busy day. Whats happening . Busy . Yeah yeah. Well, at 1030. So keep tuning news. Were tuning in to gb news. Were going to get the court case back from prince harry versus the home his Security Home office over his security arrangements. Watch this arrangements. So watch this space harry the space has prince harry won the day you . Day for you . What a time to be a what a what a time to be a royal correspondent. Cameron thanks very much. W appreciate it. Thank you very much thank you for much indeed. And thank you for watching and listening. Well be back tomorrow to all back tomorrow to do it all again. Have good day. Again. Have a good day. Morning im alex burkill and heres your latest gb news. Weather update. It is going to turn increasingly wet from the west as we go through today. But for the time being theres some significant fog around, particularly across parts of england could cause england and wales, could cause some if some problems on the roads. If youre heading early , but in youre heading out early, but in the west its a wet start to the day. Across initially day. Heavy rain across initially Northern Ireland pushing into parts , england and parts of scotland, england and wales heavy , wales likely to turn heavy, particularly higher particularly over any Higher Ground, especially over the higher of wales. All the Higher Ground of wales. All the time, across the time, though across the southeast uk staying southeast of the uk staying largely at least during largely dry at least during Daylight Hours, and for most of us its a mild picture. Many places double places getting into double figures, with some strong figures, but with some strong winds the rain. Its winds and in the rain. Its going feel pretty unpleasant going to feel pretty unpleasant at that does at times. That rain then does reach southeast as we go reach the southeast as we go through evening, with through this evening, with further rain pushing from the further rain pushing in from the west go through end of west as we go through the end of the perhaps the second band the day. Perhaps the second band of rain this evening and overnight even more overnight will be even more intense. Greater of intense. So a greater chance of some impacts due to some localised impacts due to that, will be some that, there will be some clearer skies following from the skies following in from the northwest as we go through the night, turning a bit night, perhaps turning a bit chillier towards the chillier here, but towards the southeast. Mild night southeast. Another mild night here we go through into here as we go through into thursday. A bit of a cloudy wet picture to start the day across many parts of central southeast england. That eventually england. That rain eventually clearing away towards the southeast. Brighter story southeast. A brighter story across parts of scotland and Northern Ireland, some Northern Ireland, though some blustery, showery weather pushing in and pushing its way in and temperatures taking a bit of a drop. So although it will be mild southeast, mild again in the southeast, elsewhere little bit elsewhere turning a little bit chillier perhaps some wintry chillier and perhaps some wintry ness the Higher Ground by ness over the Higher Ground by good morning, we were just chatting about what a great show weve got coming up today. Find certainly were going to find out about the prince. Harry has won battle with the home won his battle with the home office wants to not office because he wants to not have security downgraded have his security downgraded when hes in britain. He wants the to continue paying the taxpayer to continue paying it. Thats the taxpayer to continue paying it. To thats the taxpayer to continue paying it. To result thats the taxpayer to continue paying it. To result thithat is going to the result of that is going to the result of that is going to the result of that is going to be during our show this morning. Hopefully just after 10 00. What would that mean for the royal in fact lots of royal family. In fact lots of royal stories around today. Also on security mps are and also on security mps are getting security, massive increase in security when theyre constituencies theyre in their constituencies because increasing because theyre under increasing threat.
