Republican state legislative leaders on Wednesday said Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration has drafted language for a constitutional amendment limiting governors’ emergency declaration powers that is “clearly slanted” and meant “to scare voters away.”
Earlier this month, the GOP-led Legislature passed the constitutional amendment limiting emergency declarations to 21 days unless an extension is agreed to by legislators.
The measure comes after they fought with Wolf for nearly a year over his 90-day declarations and extensions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The constitutional amendment question will be on the May 18 primary ballot for Pennsylvania voters to decide, and the Department of State recently advertised the language for the question.
