Bolton Specials on duty
POLICE in Bolton face a daily battle in keeping the borough's streets safe – and they are helped significantly by volunteers giving up their free time to help officers.
Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) Special Constabulary provides support across the region with 26 officers based in the borough.
The Specials have one inspector, two sergeants and 23 constables.
And already this year they have completed 405 separate duties, totalling 2,904 hours of voluntary policing.
In March alone they finished 136 duties, adding up to 887 hours.
On Friday evening, 13 Special constables went on duty at 6pm, reporting for a briefing at Bolton Police Station on Scholey Street.
